Not sure how I got so unlucky to have such a horrible experience with this company. It was the second time using them so I thought they were a stand up company. We used them for floors before and that went fine. This time they installed a bathtub and shower surround. The bathtub isn't draining water off the side of the tub. It appears to be a defect with the tub. But because we purchased the tub ourselves (at their direction) they are not responsible to fix it. Hired ACR for mater bath renovation which turned into doing a guest bath renovation as well after firing a previous "contractor" who lied about license and was fired for terrible work quality. The master bath started out well with only a few minor problems. Then the "tile guys" showed up to do the floor and floor to ceiling tile in the shower. There were multiple problems with these guys (subcontractors hired by ACR). We ended up having to redo sections of flooring because they didn't properly secure subfloor and the grout cracked within a couple days, had to redo multiple large format tiles in shower, etc... what should have taken maybe a week they kept having to fix, refix and fix again pushing us back a least a month. The other issue we had was the finish carpenter they brought in to do baseboards and door casings. This guy was a complete HACK and clearly has never done "finish work". Terrible mitre joints in door casing - I mean TERRIBLE - and he didn't even go back and filled nail holes on over half the trim before he slapped some paint on and said he was done. Not to mention that since we were responsible for purchasing all the materials ourselves this "finish carpenter" wasn't shy of just burning through the extra material we supplied. He wasted the "20% overage" material I initially supplied and then just left all his off cuts and wasted boards in our garage for me to clean up. Obviously this wasn't the quality of work we thought we were paying for when hiring a company called ADVANCED CUSTOM RENOVATIONS; James (owner) and Fred (the fixer) stepped in an understood all our concerns and did their best to make it right. It took about 4-5 weeks longer than anticipated with all the setbacks and issues but we're happy with the overall outcome. read more

We had ARC do the remodeling of our three bathrooms and are very happy with their work. From James coming for estimates (twice, as we paused the effort for a few months), Fred doing plumbing, Derek/Tammy doing tile work, Leanne handling the scheduling and adjustment of work scope, and Keith overseeing and coordinating the entire project, everyone was professional, on time, courteous and friendly. The deco band of one of our bathrooms required manually modifying the pattern of the pre-made glass mosaic, Derek and Tammy were able to produce it beautifully. The cost of the project is very competitive with respect to other contractors we talked to. The project flowed smoothly with very little idle time, which led to a completion ahead of time. Being two engineers and perfectionists, we do see minor things which could be done more meticulously, but on the large scheme, the end result is very satisfactory overall. Work that should have been completed in 3 weeks took 4 months. The project manager scheduled work, but did not oversee work to ensure it was done properly. Work done was not professional (except for the electrician). Concerns were met with apologies or we were told it was industry standard. We have not had great experiences in the past with renovations, but this was different. James came out and listened to what we wanted done. I would like to take this opportunity to highly praise ACR and the efforts of their hardwood floor installation crew led by Mario. Mario along with two other gentlemen were the installation team for this job. They were very professional, hardworking, and courteous to us the whole time they were here. Each day at 8:00am like clockwork they rang our doorbell, and worked their butts off until 5:00pm or 6:00pm that evening. The amazing thing is we did not see them take many breaks and they usually had lunch while they continue to work. Now that is amazing service in this day and age! At the end of each day's work, Mario and his crew would clean up after themselves, organize their tools for the next day, and load their truck with the old carpet heading for the trash. That way each night my family did not feel like they were sleeping in a construction site. As for knowledge and professionalism, Mario definitely showed these qualities throughout the time he was installing our floors. He was there each step of the installation process to explained things and answer any question we had on what he was doing. And boy did we him a lot of questions! When a person spends large amounts of money to put in a new floor he wants to make sure it is done correctly . And Mario delivered. Well done Mario! Using Advanced Custom Renovations has been a dreadful, frustrating and long experience. Everything was great up until I paid the deposit. As soon as I paid communication went downhill. I was told by James they would put drop-cloths or plastic down to minimize the mess, which didn't happen. There is construction mess and dust everywhere. So much so, I need the carpets to be cleaned. We were told the job would take 2 to 3 weeks, as I'm writing this the job is not done and we're at the end of week 4. We were told the field superintendent would be at the house everyday, he hasn't been. Matt told me to call him with questions if we needed when we went to the store to purchase the materials, but then didn't answer. Now, 4 weeks into the job there have been too many phone calls and texts to count, which aren't answered, by Matt(superintendent) and James(owner). Becoming very frustrated with the lack of communication, we reached out to James, the owner for answers. But he hasn't bothered to respond. My husband and I have both tried calling and texting him for days but he hasn't had the courtesy to return our calls. A couple of days into the job Matt became ill, for which I was sympathetic and understood, sometimes things happen. However, the field guy who took over for Matt came in very rude, I'm guessing irritated he had to be there and told me no tile guys were scheduled for my shower and the soonest he could get someone out was a week after the guy finished the wall of our shower; so after construction started it sat with no one working for almost a week. The first few days the tile guy worked everything seemed fine, apart from us being sent back to the store for extra materials 3 times, which felt a little odd running to buy grout and such considering we're paying $18,000 for a shower remodel. Then the guy left at 1pm one day and the following day called me to say he had to move his apartment and didn't want to work that day! I did get a hold of Matt immediately that morning and he did make the tile guy come as scheduled that day. Everything has been delayed. I'm told for sure a trade will be here at a particular time. Then nothing. Again, leaving me to chase to find out why, then being told it will be tomorrow instead. Our job has felt like a side job, instead of anybody's priority. The plumber came in the evening to do his part after getting off work from 'his real job.' Tile didn't get finished for days after it was supposed to be done. Then the guy to finish the wall couldn't come until the day after he was originally supposed to, again leaving the job without anyone working on anything for a day and a half. When the guys did show they said the work was all done wrong and they couldn't drywall because of it not being done right and walked out. We are not unfamiliar with construction. I understand it's sometimes difficult to get trades lined up. However, we chose to use this company so they could get quality work scheduled and delivered as promised. All this time if we had been getting clear communication through the process, if the owner would respond to his customers who I would imagine he must know are having issues with professionalism, if I wasn't feeling like I'm chasing people to do the work, which is what we're paying a lot of money for someone else to do, all the other stuff wouldn't be so bad. But, it's honestly just been one thing after another. Matt, the superintendent seems like a very nice guy. He hasn't been rude or discourteous at all. The frustration has been in being promised a certain timeline and having to ask and chase why things aren't being done. The second guy to do the drywall after promising he would get done in one afternoon simply left without saying a word and and hadn't finished. Delaying yet again. Now, not only incredibly frustrated by this process I fear the work won't even look good when and if it ever gets finished. read more
