Advanced Basement Solutions has been in business for about 20 years. Their services include installing exterior and interior French drains, sump pumps, waterproofed walls, dehumidifiers, downspout lines, and wall anchors. A few years ago, my next-door neighbor hired Advanced Basement Solutions to install a French drain in his backyard, and the drain greatly reduced the amount of standing water in his yard. When I was looking for a company to install French drains in my own backyard, my neighbor highly recommended this company, so I contacted them to set up an appointment for an estimate. The employee who visited my house was named Chris. He was the first professional to visit my property and the first one to email me a written estimate. Chris so thoroughly evaluated my yard and drainage needs that he stayed at my house for 1 hour and 15 minutes! I greatly appreciated his patience with answering my questions about my yard problems and his products and services. I also appreciated that he quickly examined my basement walls and concluded that they were in very good condition. I thought that Chris's written estimate was reasonably priced. I liked his ideas for the placement of French drains as well as his ideas for daylighting my downspouts away from the house. He was very honest in saying that my current HydroBlox drains did not function. He was also very honest in explaining that his French drains are about 6-8 inches wide and 13-18 inches deep, so I might consider hiring an excavation company to dig wider and deeper drains to better meet my needs. In the end, I am hiring an excavation company to install my French drains and downspouts as well as a dry well, because those drains would work better for my *extremely* wet yard. I, however, wanted to write a positive review to thank Chris for his time and information. Chris was very knowledgeable and kind, and he set me in the correct direction for my drains. If other people have yards that are mildly to moderately wet, then I encourage them to call Advanced Basement Solutions for an estimate. read more

I hired Advance Basement Solutions to install a internal French drain. The work began on April 8th 2019 and ended on the 9th. On the 8th I noticed they had routed the outtake pipe to my dead downspout which they knew of because they quoted me to fix them which I couldn't afford it at the time. Also the sump pump was in a different spot as discussed with the sales person. The foreman called the shop about both and ended up routing the pipe out of downspout and into the back yard. They gave me money off to run electric since sump wasn't where we discussed. On the 10th I checked outside at downspout elbow where the foreman piled dirt around I removed the dirt to discover a large hole still cut into the downspout now with dirt and rocks at the base of my downspout. They remedied it after fighting that I wanted it done immediately since storms were rolling in. On the 11th of April I went down excited to see a dry basement only to find my plumbing was leaking at the stack and laundry tub. I thought something else was going wrong with the house but as it got progressively worse I had a plumber come out 4/29 to run an eel. They discovered my sewage line had been crushed during the install of the French drain. I immediately called Advance Basement Solutions, the son of the company Chris very rudely and non compassionately told me they would do nothing because in their small print contract they are not liable for broken plumbing. One I know small print does not hold in court and the foreman never informed me of this break and proceeded to gravel and cement over it causing 3 weeks of sewage to back up into my basement. Sewage damaged my floor, belongings, and walls. Finally Advance Basement Solutions came out May 2nd they opened the floor and after a fight admitted fault. Bill Hoey the owner of the company wanted to fix it himself I told him no he was not a plumber and also I wanted a camera inspection Bill thought that his employee reaching in with bare hands digging sewage soaked gravel out of my sewer line was enough! He finally agreed to take responsibility to pay for the fix and camera inspection. Tara his wife kept insisting that it was not a big deal that my basement was soaked in sewage and kept saying she was gonna send a crew to spray mold treatment on my now swollen black sewage soaked walls. I was not falling for this they were trying to wiggle their way out of everything! I had the plumber came on 5/4/19 to do the camera inspection they pulled 10 addition pounds of gravel from sewer line. They also saw 2 additional cracks that went both ways from the impact of the jackhammer. Because the damage was extensive and I wanted my basement returned to the way it was before they came they decided to turn it into their insurance company; motorist. The adjuster couldn't come until the 11th of May. They sent a 3rd party adjuster one with a construction background he commented how shallow the pipe was and thin the cement (1/2 inch thick) was on the French drain install. Also he told me to call my insurance and report all the damages which I did that day. My insurance came 5/16. Both insurance companies agreed it was category 3 sewage damage in my basement also the estimate the plumber gave me was at the low end $8,500. The crack from the sewer line went thru the footer of my house needing my front yard to be excavated and possibly my front porch needing to be removed! Advance basement solutions insurance estimated damages covered is $3,000 with depreciation. My insurance states a Minimum is an estimated $13,000 in damages. I had 3 other water proofing professionals, 2 plumbers assess the work done by advance basement solutions they all agree the pipe is too shallow and is done poorly. I found out from 3 of Advance Basement Solutions employees that the foreman that did my house stopped showing up to work 2 days after my job. The employees that came to find the break also commented on how wrong the job was. One said it would never would have been installed this way if he was on the job. I believe the install is very shallow because of the damaged sewer line. Bill insists the work done is correct, but everything they have said has been a lie or them trying to cut corners and not taking action to make it right. I saved everything I had to waterproof my basement to make my house safe for my son and in return I have thousands dollars of damage and an unhealthy house! Advance Basement Solutions say they have the values of honesty, integrity, customer-focus, respect and consistency they also say they value workmanship of the job. I have found they have showed me NONE of these values! I've been living a nightmare in my home that I've only owned for 1 year! They RUINED my house, my son and I have not been able to live here comfortably for over a month now we have a temporary sewer line as I wait for my insurance to foot the bill. We recently requested a quote from this company to eliminate the moisture and water in our basement. Our basement doesn't flood, but the water seepage we do get is annoying and creates somewhat of a mildew smell in the basement. Although we haven't accepted the quote just yet as we're getting more estimates, we were very satisfied with how we were treated during the time the contractor was with us. First, he was running early. He called us, asked if he could come early, and we accepted. It actually fit our schedule better. Also, the day before the appointment, the ABS office called to confirm our appointment, and told us what type of truck their contractor was driving so we weren't surprised or weirded out by a white truck parked in front of our house. Very cool. Second, our estimator (Chris) was jovial and laid back. He had a wonderful attitude, seemed very honest and trustworthy, and was easy to talk to. Chris was very knowledgeable about the products his company used, as well as what the work would do for us (interior French drain), and how the work would be performed. He spent a good hour with us, answering all our questions, patiently waiting while I took notes. Lastly, this is a family owned and operated business, which originated in Pittsburgh. Supporting local business is very important to us. So far, this seems like a pretty tightly run and trustworthy company. I will update my review accordingly if we decide to go with them. For now, I would say its definitely worth calling them for an estimate (free estimate btw) if you need basement waterproofing. read more

I got several quotes for a French drain in my basement. A lot of waterproofing companies were charging double and clearly more focused on pushing expensive brands than doing the service. Advanced were very thorough in surveying the issue, gave me all my options, and weren't snake oil salesmen like the other guys. Their quote was thousands less than the other guys for the same services. They used high quality materials and were respectful of me and my home during the installation. I called their service department afterward with some general questions, and they were super polite and responsive. The drain and pump system has been working great during all the recent rain. I had a leaky basement and spoke with several companies about waterproofing options. I decided to go with Advanced Basement Solutions (ABS) because I felt they were friendly, knowledgeable, and weren't trying to take advantage of me. I had some ridiculous quotes from some other companies but ABS had a reasonable quote for the job I needed. Within 3 weeks of the estimate they came over and waterproofed my basement. It took only a few hours and everything worked out great. I no longer worry about a leaky basement thanks to ABS. My wife and I decided to go with Advanced Basement Solutions (ABS) to deal with our damp basement. There were a number of positive aspects of the company, but overall we had a very negative experience (mainly due to their customer service). We initially spoke with a salesperson about installing a french drain in our basement. He was very honest and recommended services that were far "less extreme" (and less costly than a competitor). Another company recommended having a french drain installed in the whole basement, but folks at ABS said at max, we needed half the basement. (This was an encouraging sign of honest business practices at least). After signing the contract and scheduling, the work crew showed up on time and were very professional. They minimized the back-and-forth through our house and made quick work of the basement. While in the basement, I noticed some of the crew turning off various switches to pipes, etc. (and thought little of it). When the crew finished they called and completed the job faster than expected (again, my wife and I were very happy with this aspect of ABS). However, we soon returned to our basement in minor disrepair. The sink was disassembled, with our washer and dryer disconnected. We re-read our contract, and we were responsible for this (which was different than the salesperson initially said). More importantly, we soon realized we had no hot water in our house. We aren't the handiest folks, but we went into the basement and went through the various switches and re-opened some valves (but still no luck with hot water). The next morning, we called ABS and both my wife and I were bullied and belittled by the man answering the phone. My wife initially thought the man who answered might not be taking her seriously, so she handed me the phone. The man on the phone was belligerent and dismissive in a way I have rarely seen for someone tasked with customer service (especially when we were about to hand their company a check for over $4K!). This person said there was no way the crew touched any switches or turned any valves. I then noted that I (literally) watched them turn things off in the basement. He then changed his story, saying they touched one or two valves. I kept trying to pin him down, but his story kept changing. Every time, I would try to get him to say something consistent, he would cut me off, talk over me, and respond aggressively. It was incredibly disrespectful to my wife and I. I told him that I was frustrated and was likely to leave a negative review on different sites (like this one) and he just responded aggressively that he would contest them (again, just consistent belittling and disrespect). A female employee from ABS later called us back and informed us that someone from the crew had reported that valves may have been turned off, etc. My wife and I were however so frustrated we wanted nothing more to do with this company. Bottom line: They do fine enough work, but their phone and customer service staff is INCREDIBLY disrespectful. With so many other companies in Pittsburgh doing this work, I would look elsewhere in town to repair your basement (unless you want to drop a bunch of money and then get aggressive and incorrect "mansplaining" if you have any issues). read more

We got estimates from multiple companies. Although Advanced wasn't the cheapest their pricing was very competitive. We chose them because of the way Bill treated us. He came out multiple times to review the job even on a weekend! I felt that he was very honest as compared to some of the other companies we considered. He also did not trash talk the competition, which the others did. He was very to-the-point and did not try to oversell or high pressure us. My wife and I also felt like the people working their phones where super friendly and helpful, which was another reason we decided to go with them. We were very concerned about our septic lines being busted. Their team was great. They were on time, ready-to-work, polite, hard working, and careful not to damage our underground plumbing. They also got the job done faster than expected and did not leave a mess. So far everything turned out great system is working and we are extremely satisfied with their work. I had almost the exact same experience as Jamie H. I was given a quote for waterproofing a problem area and to replace a baseboard system where I was not having any issues and had been working fine for the last 25 years. The crew arrived, destroyed the old system and started digging up the concrete. My floor apparently was thicker than anticipated and after 2-1/2 hrs, had only gotten about 10 ft. done. I was told the office wanted them to rent an air hammer and would cost me an additional $1200 to rent the equipment. However he did discourage me, telling me I would have dust throughout my house which could require a professional cleaner after they were done. Since I was in the house and have pets in the house, I opted no!! Due to the time issue, we agreed that they would not do the one full wall where I was not having problems. I was told my bill would be adjusted to compensate for the work not done. There was no adjustment. And my basement was left in shambles and filthy dirty. I have never had a contracted service come to my home where I was expected to clean up their mess after they left and that includes windows, an addition, roof, several plumbing jobs, etc. The part that had been destroyed was left that way, with jagged edges and now I had water in my basement from where they destroyed that baseboard system. I was distraught, talked with someone in the office that this was unacceptable, but the person I spoke with was full of excuses and only interested in my check and getting her guys out of there. Being the wus that I am, I handed over a check. By the next morning, I realized what a dope I was and stopped payment on the check. I called to tell them what I had done and suddenly they want to make things right. For an additional $750. I felt I had no choice but to have them fix it as I have a contractor coming in a couple weeks to do some remodeling in my basement. Another crew came today and they were fabulous but were told there was only 15ft to do when actually it was more like 25. They completed 19ft of it, barely had enough material to do that, but I still have a partially unfinished wall. And to top it all I had to have plumbers come to move the hot water tank and 2 radiators for them to do the work. They came back after the first job and put everything back, but I had to get them to come back again to remove 1 of the radiators for ABS to complete the job. That wasn't cheap either, but have to pay them twice now. Although my basement is mostly OK now, needless to say I am not a happy camper and would not recommend this company to anyone!! read more
