I just used McPhail Appliance Service to repair my washing machine, and the experience was…read moreexcellent. My machine wasn't agitating or spinning. The repair guy quickly diagnosed the problem - a broken coupling between the motor and the transmission. He also pointed out the water hoses were in bad shape (bulging) and needed to be replaced. He fixed the coupling and replaced the hoses, and the total bill worked out to just under $136, and was done in little less than hour. He left everything neat and tidy when he was done. The best part of the whole deal was that he showed up EARLY. Traffic had been really bad the day before, and so he allowed extra time and arrived early. He politely asked if it was too early, but I was delighted to get the whole process started early and then done early. YAY for a repairman who cares about showing up on time! The website lists the service area as: Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, Burlington, Cambridge, Lexington, Lincoln, Medford, Somerville, Waltham, Watertown, Winchester, Woburn.

Nice guy. Reasonably priced. But…read more.. My husband & I had Dave out to assess and hopefully repair our older model Maytag washing machine. It had been leaving a lot of water in heavy items, like towels, after the wash and spin cycles completed. During the attempted repair, the engine started to smoke. As a result of the "repair" attempt, the washer no longer works AT ALL. We now need to buy a new washer immediately.

Dmitriy was right on time, and very thorough in assessing the issue. He was here for almost 3 hours…read moretying to find the issue, but kept going until he found it. We ended up replacing the washer, or else we would have used them for the repair. The only criticism I have is, when he was finished with the call, he was walking towards the door, I followed him asking for an update (I had been in the other room when he was working), he mumbled something about parts and practically ran out the door, and sat in the driveway for 30 minutes. I'm not upset, just thought it was weird and I was a little confused as he didn't explain the issue or give me next steps. But overall, I was happy with the service and would use them again!

RIP-OFF!! Please READ THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS of this business!…read moreI assume the positive ones are friends and family. Here is mine. Been quoted us $160.00 to "diagnose" our fridge ice maker. An older gentleman confirmed replacement: he offered to order one for us ($250.00) and install it. Also said that we should replace the door gasket (optional). He quoted us $280.00 for labor (I'm not sure if he factored in the gasket replacement, as the quote was very vague), for a total of $440.00 to replace the icemaker. We decided that we'd rather buy a new fridge. But first we looked up the icemaker online and found it on the manufacturer's website for $180.00. It took my husband 10 minutes to replace it. Total: $180.00
