I bought a used bike and specifically asked for the bike to be tuned up. Not only did I call ahead with the request but had a lengthy conversation with the associate who took my ticket order telling I needed a complete tuneup along with having the tubes replaced. Long story short, the bike was not tuned up. The bike tech simply changed the tubes. No tune up done. Complete waste of my time. I bought a new seat and seat post and computer for the bike, which they promptly put on. No complaint there. Did a test ride in parking lot and gears had a noticeable "noise." Tech stated it just needed a few adjustments. He fiddled with the gears a bit and then noise stopped. He said I basically got a free tune up with the tire repair and everything is in order. I asked if there was a issue if I could come back. He said "of course." Did my first test ride, and there are noticeable problems with shifting. Asked for a discount since: 1. Order was improperly taken and was confirmed in store. 2. I now have to wait over two weeks for tune up; which is a major inconvenience--especially after being very CLEAR that the bike needs a full tune up. 3. Dismissed my issues with the gears in the parking lot and stated just needed a minor adjustment--no recommendation that might be a deeper issue and clearly a tune up is needed. . . which the 9 mile bike ride revealed. Chris, the store manager, completely dismissed my issue---despite telling me in shop that his associate had indeed missed the correct write up on the order. Worst customer service ever. Felt gaslighted for bringing up the issue that a full tune up was indeed needed and the shop had completely wasted my time. read more

I have a frame with a cable clamp that you cannot fit a normal hex key into that tends to come loose from time to time. Chris finally solved this for me by taking a 3mm hex key out of his drawer, grinding it down with a Dremel, and giving it to me. Chris, I owe you one. Thank you. Chris went above and beyond the call of duty to help us. We were in the middle of a ride along the Erie Canal and my wife's e-bike battery died. Chris spent time diagnosing the problem, and when he couldn't fix he spent time trying to find a replacement that would work for us. Stopped in today to see if they had a fender stay (runs from wheel hub to end of fender) for my cruiser Schwinn. Mine had broken in two. Not only did they have one (luckily) but they took it in and put it on for me! They also found that my chain was loose (greased it and tightened it), my left pedal wasn't tight (removed and re-seated it) and tightened my seat! Advanced Cyclery stole my bicycle. I put my bike for sale on commission in their shop. They sold my bike a year ago, never paid me and never notified me. When I went to collect the money, they did not pay me. They are unethical and corrupt. Do not do business with this company. read more

Current management and staff (Chris / Jake) is something left to be desired. One customer came in today (08/13/2017) complaining they never received a call (Chris) after their bike was done being prepped for final sale, after a week of layover! I had a similar experience several years(2011) ago and wound up pulling my payment on a bike due to poor customer service. Short staffed or not, You should always put your customers first. I gave them another chance today, looking for a particular item when and they lost my business. Jake was all "Creeping," up on me and i witnessed him knock over several bikes, including that customer's bike. I was not comfortable with a sale with them after this mishap and poor customer service was present. I will be taking my business elsewhere and will never return. Period. read more

On 5/28/15 I had a tune up for my 2013 Specialized CrossTrail. As usual they did a pretty good job. I also needed both brakes, 2 cables, and a kickstand. I thought that maybe I could use a chain and cassette but they said it was okay. It's very nice that they were honest as they could have easily sold me those parts. I did have some issues with the lower gears, but I just came back and they did the necessary adjustments. Prices are on par with the other professional bike shops in the area. Stopped in to buy a pair of shoes in a fairly common size, but found the selection to be very sparse in my size. The choices were all entry-level shoes from one brand. Although the salesperson had nicer shoes available, they were all in sizes at either extreme of the spectrum. Went to the "other shop" not more than a km away and had a much better experience. I might try this shop another time, but I can't give my endorsement now. read more

I brought my daughter's small beat-up kiddie Schwin for replacement parts and a tune-up. John spent time with me, gave me an estimate and told me they'd call. I expected like a week for it all to get done. They called about 18 hours later and it was ready for pick-up! Wow. They did a tremendous job and came in UNDER the estimate! Color me impressed. Do not take your bike to this shop for work! Left my bike for what I thought would be a week to 10 days max. A month later, 2-3 calls per week, and what seemed to be hand holding each time i spoke with the employees about getting the work done I finally gave up and picked up my bike without anything completed. I also think the bike is damaged. Take your own risk if you dare! Let me add a few more remarks: Chris G. - great customer service attitude and work ethic. Are you the only employee at Advance Cycles? Are there managers or others with experience that help out when you're in a pinch or don't have the time or experience. From the customer perspective, I assumed I was dealing with the shop, not just Chris G. My buddy and I are both in the action sports scene and wanted to get some new bmx bikes. We went to Advanced Cyclery and right as we walked in we had someone asking what we were looking for. They let us ride the bikes, and put together a great package deal for two bmx bikes, helped us get the brakes off and a fair military discount. Brought in a bike to get a flat tire fixed and they were really great. Explained everything as he gave the bike a once over and suggested some inexpensive repairs. It was done quick and on time. I ordered new tires with tubeless maintenance. Advanced Cyclery told me it'd take no longer than a week. A week and a half later I called to inquire about the status of my order, because nobody at Advanced Cyclery had the courtesy to follow up with the customer after surpassing the deadline. A few days later they call me to tell me the job is complete. I arrive at the store, the lady hands me my original tires, one of which is flat, and she says that'll be $200. When I looked at her dumb founded, she laughed and said "oh, is that not what you ordered?" To which I replied, "no ma'am, I did not order my own tires and ask that you flatten one of them." Come to find out, nobody actually ordered the new tires, and the ones I wanted had since been ordered by another customer elsewhere. They "made it right" by making me wait another week and a half for the same exact model tires I already have and a few bucks off. read more

Bought a used bike from this shop on eBay and immediately paid via Paypal. Bike not received and money not refunded until 2+ weeks later when I requested an update on shipping. No explanations and when I called, they were evasive about reason for not shipping. Unapologetic and copped a bit of an attitude about their attempt to scam me.
