BEWARE. BEWARE. BEWARE…read more Think twice before opening any account with Genisys Credit Union. I opened a high-yield savings account several weeks ago and have regretted it ever since. I deposited a large sum to qualify for a promotional CD offer--which disappeared the moment my account was opened. Then came the real headache: Genisys made it nearly impossible to access my own funds. Their website is useless, and even getting my new account number required a long wait on hold. When I finally reached someone, they refused to provide it, telling me I had to wait for a "welcome letter" via snail mail. I needed my account number NOW in order to access my funds. They forced me to jump through more hoops just to retrieve basic account info. There was no digital workaround. Even after I linked Genisys to another bank, they blocked outbound transfers--effectively trapping my money. These tactics aren't just inconvenient--they're deliberately restrictive. I've never experienced anything like this with Alliant, NASA FCU, Popular Direct, or NexBank. Genisys clearly prioritizes retention over transparency. Their policy of impeding access to my own money was time consuming and unnecessarily difficult. Customer service clearly isn't a priority. After finally closing my account and having my funds wired back, I received a phone call offering me the original CD deal that was no longer available. That's rich. After all the aggravation and time wasted, I said absolutely not. Too little, too late.

And they have some excellent people who know what they are doing and are very helpful within the limits of PNC's rules. Recently, our branch at Long Lake and Woodward was permanently closed by PNC. We needed to find a new branch as our main location. The now closed branch had a great manager, let's call him Bob, but we weren't sure where he was going and we needed to find a branch that had the size safe deposit box we needed as well. We found one and moved everything there. Then I learned Bob would be going to a branch that I thought was this one. So when I needed to get some cash I thought I would get it here and see Bob as well. This branch has drive thru banking and a walk up ATM located indoors which is nice in bad weather. So I got the cash I needed and then went inside to ask about Bob. What I got was a puzzled but polite look from the young lady who greeted me and asked if she could help me when I asked for Bob. It turned out that he was the manager at another branch...oh well. At least I got my cash at a friendly PNC branch. As the closest from our home I know I'll be back at least to use the ATM.

I've never once even over-drafted an account with Genisys, yet anytime I've needed a loan, its been nothing but problems (even with 720+ credit). This latest time, they refused to loan me a sum that is less than half of what I allow them to keep in their institution. Upon trying to understand why and ultimately close my account, it took hours upon hours of phone tag and false information. Avoid this bank at all costs, they will not help you. I will advise my family members to abandon this institution as well.
