Needed some Canadian for a trip and got a favorable exchange rate relatively to my bank. The gripes I had with this place was that it was the beginning of the year and they had issues logging into their system which took an extra 30 minutes. After the 30-minute wait I was informed since the first it was the first time there that I had to exchange cash for cash. Luckily there was a Chase Bank next door and I was able to get cash quickly but otherwise this would have been a greater hassle. Also there was another customer that came in way after me and they served them first seemed to not have seen me in the corner waiting. read more

I exchanged Canadian dollars to American dollars today and and I got a terrible rate. They hit me with an effective rate of point six seven six overall--almost seven percent worse than market. That's not a hidden fee, that's straight profit for them. predatory rates on "old" money that's perfectly good. read more

Super easy and friendly service. Made appt and reserved my currency ahead of time. Transaction took 10 minutes and gentlemen was very knowledgeable and helpful. Rates were legitimate and will use again. read more

I stopped in the Foreign Currency Exchange for an upcoming trip! My bank was charging ridiculous fees for the exchange and it was going to take a week to order money! Nobody has time for that!!!! lol a friend of mine, who travels often, suggested I stop in here. Wow!!!! My experience was seamless! The owner was so helpful and knowledgeable. He even took the time to offer suggestions on other savings while I'm traveling abroad. He separated everything for me and even provided a cheat sheet for money equivalence while in different countries. If you are ever in need of an exchange expert, this is the place! Thank you for taking the time to help me. read more

Beautiful and easily found building, lovely experience. The parking was tricky but worth it. Bruce was especially nice.

We used Foreign Currency Exchange Services for the first time on 11/11/2024 to convert U.S. Dollars to Euros for an upcoming trip. They were very polite, friendly, courteous and professional and offered worthwhile tips and advice. The fee charged for the exchange was very reasonable compared to what our credit union would have charged. There was no wait... just bring your drivers license for identification. They do not exchange coin money. read more

Bait and switch! This company advertises waiving off the fee if you check in (see pic). When I showed them, they decided to change their mind and claim that it's a $500 minimum to get that deal. The guy working there was extremely rude about it, too. No thanks. Never again. It's just 5 bucks, but it's the principle of the matter. read more

You also receive a pocket size currency conversion cheat sheet which is a handy reference. There is a $5 administrative fee that allows you exchange back for free any unused foreign currency. The location is easy to access and near a parking structure where the first two hours is free. read more

I just went here today because I needed to convert USD into euros and Czech koruna for an upcoming trip. Whole process took under five minutes, and they even printed me off a pocket-sized paper slip that showed approximate conversion rates for my trip. It couldn't have been easier or faster if they tried. My teller was very friendly, and also shared advice/stories about a few of the countries I am traveling to. read more

This is a terrific place to buy foreign currency for travel. They are very welcoming and helpful. For a very small place in Downtown Birmingham, it is surprising busy. I generally buy currency at the airport, but this is a more pleasant way to do it. read more

I was getting ready to go on a trip back in May 2018 and the tour guide recommended buying some euros ahead time at this location. Exchange rate was great and if you need a lot of money you can call ahead of time and they can arrange to have it for you on the day you're planning to come. The problem this particular summer is that they have construction going on so the parking part of it at this point is a little bad. I parked a couple blocks away at a meter and I almost ran out of time because I couldn't believe they actually had a lineup of people there - so if you go to a meter make sure you put in enough coins to last you for a while. I had put in $.45 and when I got back to my meter I had three minutes left. There were two people in line ahead of me and they actually had two gentleman waiting on people so they just get very busy. They also give you travel tips which is a very nice treat! read more

Great little shop and very friendly. So much easier than getting currency in country or at the airport. They also give a cheat sheet which is pretty cool. Kind of in a weird spot but not hard to find. Low transaction fees as well. Lower than the airport. read more

Great service! Friendly staff/owner. Quick transactions and good location. The owner was very helpful with explaining the location and giving instructions over the phone. read more

I can't say enough good things about this shop. While it at time is a little more, they have currency's that are harder to find at the last minute. Thankfully they always have the exotics I need and if you ever need something they don't have they can get it fast! Great example, today I have a last minute flight to Bahrain....they have the currency in house! So I can pass customs with out issue to pay for my visa! Amazing service, exotics you would have to wait a week+ for at a name brand bank and always friendly! read more

First time I tried them. Super friendly and professional. The rate seemed much better than you'd get at the airport. Only downside is that it's downtown Birmingham, but it's worth a little parking inconvenience in exchange for a good rate and good service. I'd go again. read more

It is always nice to arrive in a different country with a little cash on hand. If you are looking for commonly sought currency - Euros, for instance - you can actually get these at some big banks (CHASE) or even at AAA. But if you need something a little more exotic, like Iraqi dinars, or probably any other sort of dinars, libras, dollars, or pesos, you should give this place a shot. The exchange rates are ok, not great, not larcenous. They are better than what you might get when you arrive in your destination country, though. There is a $5 fee for each transaction. They will also give you a cheat-sheet of conversions from your destination's cash to yours, so you'll know how much you're spending in Iraq when you buy the 70,000 dinar belt. Worth a visit for sure. read more

This was a little out of my way, being from Wyandotte, but I ended up in Troy so I decided to add this to my errands. The biggest problem was the construction going on around the area. Once we found the store (it's on the second floor) the exchange was quick and easy. Since I belong to a credit union exchanging currency at my bank was a no go. We needed Euros. They also provided a cheat sheet for currency conversion and some tips for visiting Italy. read more
