Overall, great experience. The instructor was very helpful and informative during the lessons. When the instructor takes you out driving, he is very patient, calm, and helpful. After going out with the instructor a few times, I gained confidence on the road. I passed with only 5 errors! I highly recommend ADVAN driving school! read more

By the time you go for your test..you will have enough confidence to pass. Dereck will make sure he has tested you on everything b4 your test. He is friendly, funny....you will definitely enjoy the lessons too! And he has filmed with Mike Epps. Really! Lol. Don't look any further. If you want to pass your driving test go with ADVAN Driving School. You won't regret it. Thanks Dereck! read more

I was taking classes at ADVAN school several months ago. I arrived from Russia where I almost didn't drive - my driving license was lying on the shelf useless for years. So when I came to San Gabriel I was like a newbie again. Derek helped me to reanimate such basic skills as steering control, changing lanes, parking, he helped me to overcome my fear of freeway and gave me important tips how to get prepared for the California DMV test. Dereck is very patient and cooperative coach, with a good sense of humor, so I enjoyed every hour of the learning process. As a result, I've passed both written and behind-the-wheel DMV tests just with few errors, that I attribute to exam anxiety :) I am very grateful to Dereck for making me heel comfortable in California roads! read more

Advan Driving is very helpful in getting your license! They work with your schedule, and instructor Dereck is a really awesome guy that will guide you to getting your license in a short amount of time not to mention you will learn a lot! read more

I'm so scared to drive in Los Angeles even after passing the DMV driving test. I took more lessons and Advan Driving School's coaches are very calm. I really appreciate that they pointed out finer details that I otherwise would not have notice. Thank you. read more

Thanks to Dereck I passed my driving test today with only 6 errors. Really pleased :-) Thanks Dereck!

The instructor was great! He had a laid back personality that made driving lessons with him comfortable and relaxed, which I appreciated. He was also really informative when pointing out mistakes so I didn't make them on my official test. With his help, I passed with 0 errors! read more

I have no choice but to agree with the other positive reviews on Advan's instructors as a whole. Despite having only taken 1 lesson, I was able to accumulate a good amount of knowledge to succeed in the driving test. The instructor who guided me, who shall not be named, was no doubt a very affable individual who helped to ease the tension during my lesson and prior to the examination. He is not the typical stern teacher who wants to get the lesson over with and take your money; instead, he's more of a friend who prefers guiding to lecturing you. Overall, I'd highly recommend taking lessons from any of Advan's instructors, and I can confidently guarantee that you will more likely succeed in your first try of the test as long as you remain calm. read more

I remember when Dereck gave me my driving lessons about 5 years back. He teaches very well and makes you get over your fears. I've been driving ever since and have always been safe. I'm able to pass my drive test on my first try. Great place to learn in Alhambra or San Gabriel valley. Appointments were organized and Carly is very nice on the phone even though I don't pickup her calls in a timely manner =) read more

I had a great experience with Derek from Advan Driving school. I really recommend him for first time drivers. He can be strict but he prepared me for the diving test and I ended up passing the behind the wheel test the first time round! He knew exactly what the examiner would be looking for. I really don't know if I could have passed the test without the lessons. It's definitely worth the investment to have someone who knows the rules of the road teach you. Plus having no prior driving experience; the breaks and gas pedal on his side of the car gave me peace of mind. :-) read more

This driving class was perfect for me. My instructor, Derek, was fantastic and professional, and never did they make me feel pressured. He knew where the best DMV for testing in my area was, and that was a big part of why I passed my driving test the first time I took it after my class. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who is looking to get their drivers license. read more

Derek is a professional instructor. He did point out mistakes I made with patience. And I passed the test at the First time ! Recommended!

I drove with Dereck within two months, and was able to pass the first time! I initially had trouble controlling the wheel, but with constant practice on my weaker points, I was able to improve within two lessons. I personally admired Dereck's teaching because he would correct my mistakes and make sure that important traffic procedures were ingrained in my head. Dereck was also reassuring, but alert at all times, so I felt very comfortable driving with him. Overall, Dereck's honest instructions helped me to develop my confidence to drive and pass the test! read more

This review is a little late, but had to write one. They were super accommodating when scheduling my sons appointments. I had a small window to get his hours completed before his permit expired. My son had Ryan as an instructor and really learned a lot from him. He gave my son little tricks to do to park the correct distance away from the curb as well as for reversing. As soon as he finished he gave my son his certification of completion right away. My son actually got zero marks on his behind the wheel test!! My overall experience with them was nothing short of exceptional! read more

All I can say is, Thank you ADVAN driving school! Being under 18 with little to non driving experience, I was able to pass the driving test with 4 errors on my first try. I had both Dereck and Ryan as instructors. Dereck being older then Ryan was a little stricter but he still made me feel comfortable and made me enjoy driving! Ryan was also a fun instructor, cracking jokes and informing me of the various rules and what to expect in the test. If you want a reasonably priced and enjoyable driving experience, choose ADVAN DRIVING SCHOOL! read more

Our eldest daughter had a great experience with Derek, passed with a perfect score! When it came time for our second daughter, we went with another driving school because Derek wasn't available. The other school did a poor job, but lucky for us Derek became available so we took a 2-hour class with him and our second daughter passed her test! We also appreciate Carly texting info and reminders to us :) read more

The instructors were very helpful when it came to driving instruction. And although you will obviously receive criticism from them, that is expected. They knew how to clearly communicate mistakes that were made, and how to correct them in the future. Would definitely recommend as a gateway to learning how to drive. read more

Derek is a great instructor. He's really funny and never makes driving awkward. He also teaches really well, and settles appointments with just one easy call. read more

Cool headed, Chill, Experienced, and Patient; it's every starter's dream of starting something and in this case start driving! His focus is to get you to drive safely, Before he taught me how to drive I was nervous and a little paranoid about driving but all of that changed when I started to learn how to drive. I Passed the Driving test on my first try no problem. But nothing can prepare you more than practice and practice. Dereck is someone whom I would Highly recommend to start driving with, not only that his price range for instructorship is actually very manageable for those low income families compare to other driving schools. I had a Very good 6 hours with Him! read more

Overall, this isn't a very professional driving school. I'm surprised that everyone gave 5/5 stars because I know that I didn't have a 5 star experience, nor did my friends who also went to Advan. During the lesson, one of my instructors was on his phone scrolling through Facebook, answering phone calls scheduling lessons, etc. instead of properly instructing me and paying attention to the road. I was pretty nervous about driving and didn't think they did a good job at making me feel more comfortable. I also saw that they charged me $20 more than another student. Maybe he had a discount or something, but the $290 I paid seemed pretty expensive for crappy instruction. The driving school also failed to mail me my Certification of Completion of Behind-the-Wheel training. So when I went to take my behind-the wheel-test, I wasn't able to because they never mailed me that certification! All the practice and stress was for nothing. Overall, I was super annoyed and am pretty dissatisfied by my experience. read more
