We've had ADT for over a year now and love the service. This company saved our house from burning down when I was younger, and gives us a lot of piece of mind when we're away. Unfortunately we fell onto some hard times financially this month so I called to regrettably cancel our services. Thankfully, Cameron Cushingberry was the representative that picked up when I called their cancellation line and we had a down to earth conversation. Within 10 minutes he was able to come up with a plan that allowed us to avoid the cancellation fee, and lower our monthly payment while we get back on our feet. Cameron was by far the nicest customer service representative I've talked to in general, in a very long time. Honestly, I haven't had a single bad experience with anyone from this company. For everyone posting their negative experiences about cancellations and hidden fees - It's unfortunately part of accepting any product from any sales professional. There are always hidden things in contracts. And if you call the customer service line all heated and angry, people have no interest in working things out with you. Be nice, it's another human on the other side of the line. Put yourself in their shoes - they don't make the rules they just relay the information. I have a control panel that has constant issues. Multiple sensors that show low battery and don't properly receive a signal from the control panel. They push you to fix your own issues over the phone. If they do have someone come out, they charge you even though it's their defective equipment causing the problem. I have been a customer for 25 years and recently upgraded my security system. When I tried to log into my account, I can't get in, I can't register a new account, nothing. I have security at two properties. I called customer service and the service representative kept putting my information in wrong, email, address, phone number, my security. After an hour of this, she says her supervisor will call me, but that has not happened yet. All I wanted was to get access to myADT, confi my my billing detail so I can setup payment for my new system. I have never had a problem with my system, but this back office support is horrendous. I have had a system for several years. It has generally worked pretty well. I was having issues with my system. They sent a tech to check it out quoting me a $59 charge (which was somewhat ridiculous to start with). He needed to change some batteries (I had some but he refused to use them). He was here for 15 minutes tops and didn't even have one of the batteries I needed. Charged me $290. To change a few batteries. It is nothing short of extortion since I spent so much having the system installed, not to mention significant monthly fees. I signed up for ADT. I decided the next day to cancel due to the fact I asked for a 1 year contract and they gave me a 3 year contract. They picked up the equipment 2 days after canceling. 4 days later I get a call that they are concerned about my equipment and am I experiencing a power failure. I told the customer service person I don't have any equipment for you to monitor. There response. Oh I see you canceled. DUH!!!! How long will this go on? They billed me and I went to the CC company to complain and request a refund. Just say no thank you. This company is clueless. read more

READ THE REVIEWS, THEY'RE NOT LYING. One of the biggest regrets I've had was to switch from Simplisafe to ADT. We just moved to Florida from California and I thought, maybe I'd give ADT a try. Never did I realize I'd be shooting myself in the foot. The first red flag was ALL of their equipment are crappy but expensive. It's been only less than six months and I've already had to change the battery in their "compact" sensor (which is actually huge, don't be deceived by the name). Andy while changing the battery, the tiny lever to reset the sensor was so small and brittle, that when I pushed it 3 times to reset the sensor, it snapped off! I had to wait 4 days or a replacement sensor to arrive. And that replacement was brittle too. When I pried it open to gain access to the battery compartment, 2 of the 4 plastic tabs already broke off. Looks like the sensor was old stock. Either that or the plastics they use is super cheap. Next, you cannot just simply change the battery and reset the sensor to get it working again. You have to schedule a call to their call center so that they can re-link it to your system LOL. What a joke! As if having an eight year old and a ten year old and a job isn't enough to keep you busy, now I have to call them when each of my 5 sensors fail. Next issue is the price - each sensor costs about 50 Dollars to purchase on its own. No bundles, no deals. These cheap, easily breakable sensors are 50 Dollars each! When I had Simplisafe, their system was so inexpensive yet so reliable, that all of my doors and windows had sensors, plus the mandatory glass breaks, motion sensors, flood sensors and cmonoxide alarms. Now, because of their expensive sensors, I'm down to the 5 sensors that's including the motion sensor and cmonoxide sensor. The gentleman who installed my control pad stuck it too close to a cabinet that each time I open the cabinet door, it hits the pad. And the cake on the topping: I am stuck to this service for 3 years - YUP there's a service contract you can't just cancel or walk out of, or you pay the full price. Believe me, I am very tempted to pay that price, but then you'd have to purchase a new set of equipment from Simplisafe on top of ADT's cancelation fees and equipment pay offs. So, PLEASE stay with Simplisafe of you already have it! read more

Their warranty is set very scam-like. I have the google doorbell cam, which I'm still paying. It stopped working, so i called support, they did a video tech service determined it did not work. Instead of just returning the cam or replacing the cam, they require a tech to come out and "check it out". The tech visit is mandatory for replacing their busted device that I'm still paying for, and they charge $99 just to show up. I'm not allowed to replace or return the busted device, I either keep the busted device or pay to for "tech service" to get it replaced, even though I HAVE WARRANTY. I am paying for a service I cannot use. My alarm panel needs to be fixed and they have set up 3 telephone appointments to assist me in the fix. WOULD RATE ZERO IF I COULD. For more than a year, my ADT cameras did not work. Every time a technician came to my house, they said cameras were fine but I need to upgrade. I finally tried to cancel the service in October 2024. After no less than six calls to ADT in October, November, and December, I was finally able to cancel after almost 12 weeks of trying. My account was never closed as requested in November. When I tried to get a refund for October, November, and December, I was told my request was denied for Oct. and Nov., but they would credit me a whopping $26 for December. I had ADT for close to nine years, but have switched companies and will never deal with ADT in my life. In the past year with ADT (that came with the house I bought), I have been up-sold equipment I did not need, had 2 cameras and one wired keypad disconnected and removed from my property without my knowledge or permission (AKA - STOLEN) lied to, given conflicting information by ADT representatives, had conversations conveniently "disconnected" without a call back from the representative I was talking to -- requiring me to call back and state my issue all over again. The average number of people I talk to on any given call I make is 3-5! And those 3-5 people all say something different, ending in my issue NEVER BEING RESOLVED. The average time it takes to [not] have my issue resolved is 4-5 HOURS per phone call! I get sent (transferred) around and around and around over and over. ADT bought out our local security monitoring service which we did not have a contract with. We have moved and they are saying we have an early termination fee because their system says we have a five year contract between us and ADT... which of course they cannot provide since we didn't have a contract and certainly not with them. 6 calls and 3 hours later, story keeps switching, they cannot see notes from previous calls. expensive, trash quality equipment with absolutely zero customer service. only use them if you hate both security and money. first off their tech installing their system broke my basement door *and* the electricity to my living room and then asked me to go get the part he needed to fix it and to keep it secret from ADT. The people they send to install their equipment simply have no idea what they're doing and they're dangerous. Their sensors fall apart, which results in false alarms and can cost you in fines. I had a sensor just crumble and fall off of my wall to pieces, they sent me another sensor, made me install it myself, and then it fell apart as well. This is because they use cheap stickers to hold their cheap sensors to the wall. When I was able to get ahold of them to get a tech out to install it correctly they gave me a window of 12-5. It is currently 5:20 and I've heard nothing from this tech. That's the level of customer service you can expect from ADT: wait two weeks, then they give you a huuuuuuuge window so that you have to take off work to be there, then they don't even meet that window. We have to deal with false fire alarms all the time as well, just boiling a pot of water will set of the alarm. When they call to check up on us I answer and go through the verification procedure but sometimes they still call the fire department which, once again, results in fines. I did nothing wrong to set the alarm off and I went through the procedure to report it as false but they alerted the fire department anyway, throwing my money away. Reading other people's reviews I look forward to having a truly horrible time cancelling their service and kicking their garbage equipment out of my home, but they can't make cancellation painful enough that it won't be worth it. I wish I had never done business with these thieving, lying cons in the first place but the second best thing I can do now is stop doing business with them. You should never start. Edit: after all of this they promised to send a tech out at their expense to repair their shoddy, crumbling equipment but now they're charging me $200+ because they say the can't find any record of that offer. My only recourse was to sit on hold for an hour in order to extract a promise from someone else that they'll review the call some time in the next 3-5 days and see if they feel like fulfilling their promise. Don't do business with these people, they're blatantly fraudulent. Terrible experience. The key pad was fitted at an angle. The main bedroom sensor is active when set at night so I can't use the alarm at night. The fobs aren't always working which means you have to use the app. The app is only available to one user - you have to by pass this by giving other users your user name and password (a security risk in its own right) choosing an option to copy settings from another device, and "finally click the uncommon answer to keep everyone's phones active on the app (the recommended answer is if you were for example upgrading your phone)". This was the advice from my installer. My previous alarm system allowed multiple users living in the house to have their own account on the app. What if someone you live with is asked to leave? They can control the entire security system, disable your fob, change the password and effectively lock you out of your home. Today neither the fob nor the app worked and so the alarm went off. Eventually the fob worked. The alarm cannot now be reset. The apps says I have to call support for a remote reset The options don't relate to anything - you have to try various 'press one' 'press two'. before finally finding an option which allows a remote reset. It tells you to input the number on the panel display - but there is no number. If you try to speak to anyone, it just says the line is close and hangs up. The website says that you can report faults using the app. You can't. You have to phone ADT (and the lines are closed). There is an option to remote reset but you need a verification code. I don't have one - so I clicked 'forgotten verification code' and got an error message. My concern about ADT was I would be subject to call centres, pressing options and getting nowhere. That is exactly what I am experiencing. Update: a day later, I finally managed to get through to someone - their response? 'Someone will call you back'. You couldn't make it up. Update: Their customer service response didn't address any of the issues I raised, told me to call their support line and look at the videos and tutorials on line. For a faulty system! Basically 'Solve it yourself'. Update: The installer returned. He was unable to find out why the alarm failed. He said that someone from ADT had deleted the log. He called his manager to get answers to questions we had - for example 'What is the verification code that the app requires for a reset?'. We were told that this was provided in the letter containing key holder information. I checked the letter - it contains no such information. Another update. The engineer came yesterday. Today I set the alarm. When I returned I tried to disarm the system. Once again the fob didn't work and the alarm went off. I've had to call ADT as I cannot reset the system from here and once again I have to wait for someone to call me back. What would happen if I were away? A week on, I am unable to use the alarm until an engineer resets it. It seems the only way to set and unset the alarm is using your phone. Not easy with keys and bags etc. Are customers coming home later supposed to stand outside their door and get their phones out along with their keys to get in? Neither practical nor safe. Another update: After waiting several hours an engineer called. He suggested I was triggering the alarm as I wasn't doing it properly. He said he was was going to talk me through how to press a button and put a fob against the panel (!) I followed his instructions and the alarm went off immediately - not even a delay. 'Oh. Your alarm is faulty'. So the engineer is going to get an engineer to look at it. Another Update: It's been four days and despite the engineer confirming the system is faulty, no-one has called to arrange a visit. Called to be told 'Someone from dispatch will call you back'. I cannot count how many calls, emails, and people I have spoken to - and I keep being given conflicting information. Emails to support and complaints are ignored. Update: Spoke to some who sent an engineer round to replace the keypad. He said that the keypads don't work if they are near a power supply(!) Got another call from someone else to arrange an engineer visit. Told him the engineer had been. Later. First person called again to say 'I understand your alarm is going off'. Update: The wiring for an alarm system was part of the build of my house. ADT ripped it out and took away my old alarm without consent preventing me from having a wired alarm in the future. They have ignored all requests to return it. Customer support say the engineer wouldn't have removed the wires even though he admitted in an email that he did. My home that is less secure than before I had the alarm installed. They have put my home insurance at risk and they ignore complaints. They billed 3 months for 2 and Laura in the director's office ignores complaints. read more

Too bad I can't give zero stars. Stay away from this company. I had repeated instances of their system triggering an alarm for no reason in the middle of the night. I spent literally hours with customer service reps (many clearly overseas), onsite technician visits, and installation of new sensors. Bottom line problem continued to occur to the point I could not use the system and was forced to cancel and spend $2 grand for new system with another company. I should have realized from the time I signed up that this company is not consumer friendly. Upon activation they refused to send someone to activate the account. They had me on the phone for an hour going from window to window. If a service technician came to my home, it could have been activated in a fraction of the time. After several months, and false alarms and devices not functioning properly (for example: one device, system said the battery was low. I replaced it. Still said it was low. I bought another one. Still getting the error message). I requested a service technician come out to fix the issues that were occurring since Day 1. They wanted to charge me a fee. I declined. Knowing that keeping a customer is not a priority, I canceled my account. Unfortunately the contract I had signed was for a year. So they are charging me a hefty disconnection fee (which again did not require a technician to come to my home). Even so the system is faulty, they refused to waive the disconnection fee. While attempting to have them 'forgive' the early termination fee, I removed my credit card from their system. Days later they made an UNAUTHORIZED charge to my credit card (which has since been disputed). Since they could not be trusted with my credit card, I mailed a check for partial payment. Their system uses ACH to cash checks, which means my bank does not get a canceled copy. I contacted them and requested I pay with a check ONLY if I get a copy back from my bank. ADT refused. As a result, I have an unpaid balance, which will remain unless they come up with a mutually agreeable way to make the final payment. read more

When I told ADT I was cancelling our arrangement they told me I owed them $725 for a cancellation fee, saying that was in our contract. DO NOT TRUST ADT'S REFERRAL PROGRAM - IT'S A SCAM! I had a horrible experience with ADT's referral program, and I want to warn others before they waste their time. ADT promises a $200 gift card for every referral who signs up for their service. I provided 16 referrals, including my own parents, who I know signed up--and yet, I never received a single reward. ADT had no problem calling me to ask how to approach my referrals and they even reached out to some of my friends. They clearly used my leads to generate business but failed to honor their end of the deal. When I called their main number to resolve this, I was pushed from one representative to another with no answers--just empty promises that someone would follow up. I even had text message conversations with 2 of their reps. 1 of the reps quit in the middle of helping me and then his manager was useless. This program is a bait-and-switch program with no payouts. I did the work, provided legitimate leads, and they completely dropped the ball. If you're considering joining their referral program--DON'T! It's a waste of time and effort. read more

My journey with ADT started about 5 or 6 years ago in a 3-year contract. We moved our services to a new house, and they said they would waive the early termination fees if we continued their services at our new house. We were then billed for the early termination fees and had to call and get those taken care of. Then I moved service to a third location, and again, they said if I continued with their services, they would waive the early termination fees. Again, I got charged for early termination fees, which I had to call multiple times to get taken care of. They also randomly charged me for three months of service around December that year instead of monthly. When i called and asked why, they just said they billed for three months. I have no idea why they did this instead of the monthly payment, but it sounds like they wanted to close the books for the year or quarter with more money? This didn't really bother me, but it could have financially hurt some customers. Then I was moving into an apartment and they offered a mobile service that, again, they said if I continued their services they would waive the early termination fees and you know how that story goes so after multiple phone calls they finally got that taken care of. Then, at the end of 12 months of their mobile service, I called in February to cancel the end of March, which would have been the end of the 12-month cycle. When I called in February, they offered me a 1-month credit. I'm not sure why they offered the credit, but I thought it was nice and accepted the credit. Now, at the end of June, I realized they had billed me the last 3 months; April May and June. I called and let them know I was still being billed for a canceled service, and they said that because I accepted the one month credit, my service was never canceled. They said I would have needed to call back after that one month and then cancel. It sounds exceptionally sketchy to me that they circumvented my request for cancellation by offering me a one month credit and stated I wasn't eligible for a refund. I requested a refund anyway and stated that when I called in February, I was very clear that I was calling to cancel my service. But if they don't provide the refund, it is worth it to never have to deal with this company again. They either have a completely incompetent group of people working for them or incredibly questionable billing practices. My guess is that it's both. Do not use ADT. There are many other companies out there, or you can buy your own cameras and services right through your cell phone. It's not worth being in a contract or agreement with this company ever. Run! Stay clear. This company is nothing but a scam. The sales rep will LIE to you. Is this a month to month service? They said yes but the answer is NO. I told them exactly what i wanted and they put their own items on the contract. It was my fault for not understanding and not questioning when certain items looked suspicious on the contract. I was offered 2 free indoor cameras as a promotion, they put a wired doorbell camera when i told them i did not want one. Equipment doesn't work, i have 7 sensors and i had to turn off 3 because they were causing my alarm to not work. I called to have it looked at and they want to charge a fee for a technician to come out. When i signed up, i told them i wanted a month to month monitoring and i was assured that's what i would get. They don't care. I asked them to listen to the recorded call and i was informed that " They can but its the contract you signed" Like they know the sales reps tell you one thing and make you sign something else. I don't even remember the monitoring being on the contract. I suspect they send a document to sign that may be false, and replace it with a much different contract. They just want your money, they don't care about security. Best part? I asked if after 24 months I would be informed of my contract ending and they said NO! I got service with these losers on November 2/25 I cancelled the next day because I wasn't satisfied with the service it wanted me to bypass the alarm system in order to activate my alarm I wasn't doing that however I didn't have this service not one week hear these people saying I owe them $2,222.10 when the young man came out on a Monday November the 6th and retrieves the equipment which consists of two standard contacts one base two and they removed 16 window breaks that they put in tell me how is it I didn't keep this stuff one week and leave bastard and turn that stuff over to collections and I'm catching hell getting these folks to get this stuff out of collections before we mess up my credit score I would never deal with ADT again they clueless you can talk to three different people about the same problem and all three of them will tell you something different they does not care about the customers it's just about the money read more

I've been an ADT (formerly Protection 1) customer for over a decade. In April of 2024, ADT lost the ability to monitor my system. This basically means that although I was paying for monitoring services, ADT could not and did not monitor my system. In February of 2025, my alarm went off in the middle of the night, and ADT did not call me or dispatch law enforcement. The next day I called ADT, who confirmed they hadn't been monitoring my system for the last 10 months and then tried to upsell me on a new system, stating this would fix this issue. I was agreeable to the new system but insisted I was credited the amount of money I paid for monitoring since I had paid that amount for 10 months without actually receiving service. It's been 27 days since I first talked to someone at ADT, and the issue is still not resolved. A few weeks after the initial report, I was contacted by ADT to confirm my physical address since they're system showed two different addresses. I've never moved or transitioned services anywhere. It was also highly frustrating that they didn't even know the address where the service was being paid for. I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau in the amount of $448.07 (the amount I paid over 10 months) and then was told by the person that I was working with that because I filed the claim, they couldn't assist me anymore. After I replied to that email, I got a phone call from a different ADT employee offering me $300, which I declined. He then offered me $350, which I also declined since I paid $448.07 for monitoring services where my system was not monitored. Every email to them takes a week to respond to, and the high-pressure sales atmosphere is just to squeeze every dollar out of their consumers. It's truly unfortunate. The scary thing is that for 10 months, my system went unmonitored, and they never called me or sent anyone out to fix it. It just sat there. I was lucky that my alarm was set off by a massive windstorm in February, and it wasn't an intruder or some other potential life-and-death situation because ADT was not monitoring my system and would have never dispatched law enforcement to my home. I have written proof from ADT they they lost connection with my signal, but they refuse to reimburse me for the 10 months I paid them, thinking my alarm system was being monitored. Trust these other people and stay away from ADT - the safety of your family depends on it. Edit - it appears as though ADT wants you to contact them via email. I was a customer for 3 years. If I could give this business a 0 I would. The services hardly ever worked. I would call for help and be sent to a tech just for them to fix it temporarily. I was on the phone with the tech so often that I just learned to troubleshoot it myself. It is NOT worth the money. When you want to cancel you have to jump through so many hoops to get there. I have had to call THREE times to cancel and this last phone call they told me "they are in the process of canceling" after three weeks... You could not pay me to use this company again.
