Some quick sleuthing led me to 1581 Salon and ah! Satisfaction. I usually don't Yelp my super favorite businesses for fear it will get too crowded but not so here. Song has been cutting my hair for more than 14 year and I look forward many more years of fresh cuts. Becoming Song's client was a serendipitous occurrence. After many years of growing out my hair, it was time to be more clean cut. I went to the aforementioned shop where L. was my regular barber. As a walk-in on L's day off I reluctantly sat in Song's chair. It was the only day I had that week and I really needed a haircut. Twenty minutes later I was so satisfied with the haircut and that was it! That weekday became my haircut day as I was too embarrassed to tell L. I preferred Song's cuts to hers. It was at least 6 years before I dared to come in on a day the other one was working. By that time I was sure she wouldn't remember me any longer and frankly, didn't care if she did. What I really like about Song cutting my hair is the simplicity of it. I'm a man who gets his haircut every 6 to 8 weeks. No perms, no coloring, nothing. I want the same cut... every time. Maybe a little shorter in the summer... maybe. And that's what I get with Song. I get in, I get out. Chit-chat if you like, silence if you're not in the mood to talk. Either way, in 25 minutes or less I'm walking out of there feeling good. Professional, skilled and reliable. This is a satisfied customer. The shop is local so I don't need to drive far. I really wanted to be okay, but then my trim, which I showed a picture for, ended up cutting off like all my hair when I explicitly asked for her to just take off the bulk at the back of my head where the disconnected grown out undercut is because it was getting super thick there. I asked for her to just freshen up the rest of my ends...she cut off like two inches of my short hair and now I have a pixie cut, which is not at all like the 90s curtain bangs crop I was growing out. It was the complete opposite. I have all these crazy, choppy layers in my hair and its super thin all over now. I had to go get toner done somewhere else to make the color not so terribly bright and hot near the roots still. I really don't like leaving bad reviews but I literally wanted to cry after I left because I came in asking for one thing and came out after hours later with the complete opposite of what I asked for. It's the liberty with the hair cut that really killed me. My hair is so short now that it has no flow, and I'm devastated.

It's been since (Covid) 2020 that I let my natural color grow out, I have a white streak of gray right in the front and it makes life interesting. I was hesitant to get it colored because I do love my grays but a girl might need a change. (Ugh, decisions, decisions) I texted Fernanda the day before about being torn between color or no color. I walked in around 1pm the next day, was quickly greeted by Fernanda and we chatted about my color. She told me she would prefer not to add highlights only because I'd go back to having to get it retouched every 6-8 weeks and because she loves the way my grays look. I was kinda relieved she told me cause we opted NOT to color it, that might change later on in the year but for now, I left it as is. Grateful she was interested in the care to my hair and not just out to make $. Which is why I keep going back, Fernanda cares about making sure I was happy with my decision.
