So he said he could cut my hair, proceeded to tell me it was $40 (without tip for a simple trim on the sides). So we talk and I had told him I'd be back at 2, never mentioned he didn't do appointments so when I came back @ 2 he proceeded to tell me that it could be another hour to an hour and a half. If he would have been upright with me from the jump and told me he doesn't take appointments, I would have went somewhere else to begin with.

You know you always worry about a first-time haircut, but this one turned out great. I enjoyed Lance's company and conversation as well. Lance is really a funny guy. And he will strike up a conversation with you on whatever topic. He's knowledgeable on sports for you sports fans out there. Lance is a traditional barber. You are not going to get any trendy fades or other styles. Just a good, regular haircut. No smell of pot, loud music, or TV screens. What he does have is vintage stuff, like a 1930's Wurlitzer juke box that still plays 78 rpms. Or one of the first electric cigarette dispenser machines. Or a Coke vending machine when a bottle was only 10 cents. Walk-ins only. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

I booked my appointment several days in advance for June 15 at 3:30 p.m. and specifically selected…read moreDanny because I had seen positive reviews about him online. The booking system gave me the option to choose my barber, and my confirmation clearly showed that my appointment was with Danny. I arrived at 3:14 p.m., 16 minutes early. I made an effort to arrive before my appointment because I respect other people's time and would never want to inconvenience a barber by showing up late. Unfortunately, that same level of consideration was not shown to me. When I checked in and said that I had an appointment with Danny, he told me that he was Danny, but that one of his barbers would be cutting my hair because another client was coming in for him. I was not notified beforehand by phone, text, or email. He did not ask whether I was comfortable with the change, offer me another appointment, or give me any real choice. He simply told me that someone else would take care of me because they had good barbers and a fade was easy. The other client did not arrive until approximately 20 minutes later. It honestly felt as though I was being penalized for arriving early. Since I was already there, I was passed to another barber while Danny waited for the client he preferred to take. I found that unfair and very unprofessional. My concern is not that a business has multiple capable barbers. My concern is that the website specifically allows customers to select a particular barber, confirms the appointment under that person's name, and then disregards the selection without advance notice or consent. If choosing a barber does not actually guarantee an appointment with that person, the booking system should clearly say so. I believe everyone deserves the same basic level of respect, regardless of who they are. You should treat the person cleaning the building with the same dignity and consideration you would show the CEO. I respected Danny's schedule by arriving early, but my confirmed appointment and my time were not respected in return. Juan ended up cutting my hair. He was polite, and the haircut was acceptable overall, but he appeared uncertain several times and asked another barber for guidance about what would look best. The front was not finished as well as I expected, and the overall result was not as detailed as haircuts I have received elsewhere. I paid $60 for the service and still left a $7 tip. The haircut itself was acceptable, which is why I am giving two stars instead of one. However, the way my appointment was handled was disappointing, unfair, and unprofessional. I booked Danny specifically, received confirmation under his name, arrived early out of respect for his time, and was reassigned without warning because he chose to take another client who arrived later. That experience left me unsure whether I would return.

On day 3 I realized that I was suppose to get a cut before heading to our next destination. I called LJ's and Luis told me to come on over and he'll get me squeezed in. I waited for only 5 minutes before I was in the chair. He made great convo and seems like a wonderful guy, working hard to support his family. The shop itself (in my opinion) needed some work, but he said he's working on expanding and upgrading the interior soon. But honestly, the interior of the shop doesn't mean much when you get a fantastic haircut. My fade was absolutely on point with not a single hair uneven. He took his time and was very detail oriented! I was/am extremely pleased with my cut. From the street this place does not look like much, but the service and work itself is worth the visit! Best part, the cut was $18. Y'all better tip this guy well though!!!! Bring cash, no credit card accepted yet. If I'm back in Tucson... LJ has my business.
