Authenticity-wise, I think you can feel comfortable going elsewhere for your fix of Filipino food. That said, the food was still damn good. I got the pork nachos and also tried the lumpias. The lumpias were my favorite: they were lightly fried and had the heavenly combination of crispy and tender. It's not enough to be a meal but definitely get em like you would get fries (aka, always). The pork nachos were also delish. The chips tasted homemade and were rightly bland to counter the savory pork. They were plenty generous with the toppings and I was never left fishing for more oomph with every bite. I ordered the Chicken Adobo with garlic rice and a fried egg. Along side an order of chicken lumpia. The adobo was tender and sweet which paired wonderfully with the salty garlic rice and crispy chicken lumpia. They also accept orders on Door Dash if you are unable to order at their food truck. Tasty food, decent prices. We had the good fortune of having this food truck visit our office during the week and so we got to try several entrees, including adobo chicken and pork (I got the pork). The adobo pork bowl came with an optional egg on top, big chunks of fatty pork pieces covered with adobo sauce, and garlic rice on the bottom. The pork was quite tasty, very savory, and had a good soft texture. Being 1/4 Flip, I was really looking forward to Adobo Express. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it. PORK ADOBO BOWL: The adobo was served over a base of over-cooked garlic rice (sorta mushy) that was basically just white rice with some garlic that wasn't cooked long enough on the flat top. I was hoping for a lot more sauce - or perhaps a side of sauce if they are going to skimp on it. The pork itself seemed like it had been seared on the flat top, which gave it a nice exterior texture, but wasn't as tender as it should have been (meaning it wasn't cooked in the pot long enough). The fried egg was fine, but really unnecessary as good adobo should be able to stand up on its own. LUMPIA: An order consists of three, thin, crispy lumpia. They weren't overly greasy (lumpia are always a little greasy) and the exterior was nice, crisp, and flavorful. The downfall here is that there wasn't much filling and what little filling they had was pretty bland. You might as well just sell fried wrappers with no filling. I first noticed the Adobe Express truck a few years ago, because it use to park outside of my office building everyday around 12pm. I had no idea what it was and didn't really have any intent on trying it out. I heard people describe the truck as expensive and decent. Finally, one day a friend of mine said it was good. I wasn't going to eat lunch today but the Filipino in me saw that Adobo Express was going to be at our weekly irvine food truck lunch event and i instantly got hungry. I can easily say that adobo express has the smallest menu in the world. Just three items on the menu. I saw the reviews and was a little skiddish at first, but I'm happy I went. I got the pork adobo bowl. It included garlic rice, adobo and a fried over medium egg. The order was quick, probably under 4 mins. I got back to work and dug in. Overall it was good. Other reviews talk about the dish being pretty bland compared to the traditional adobo, which is true. But I think the scaled back version they serve with the amount of rice they offer works well. Usually the traditional adobo base can be strong that even a full cup of rice can't even save you. The meat was a little tough and I kind of wish I had a knife, but again the filipino in me was fine with using my hands to eat. (and that's not meant to be racist, it's logical!) The fried egg was a nice touch. It added additional creaminess to the bites. The menu size may be holding back Adobo Express a bit. Now they just need to figure out how to package Sinigang and I'll eat here every week :) 3.5 stars but I'll bump it up to a 4 star because more people need to try them out. Fun food truck experience. It's a mix of Filipino food but also done in some Mexican styles. For example, you can get an Adobo burrito or Adobo nachos. I opted for the Adobo plate which was more Filipino with rice and egg and chicken. It was delicious and a good deal for $7.50. The staff is nice and service was pretty quick, maybe 2 minutes wait. A friend had the Nachos and those were delicious. A very big portion and the nacho chips were light and crispy, tasted homemade. I want to try that dish myself next time. I like the idea of a Filipino food truck because I think it's pretty rare and I really enjoy chicken and pork adobo meats. One thing that irks me is when I go to a food truck that makes food you can whip up quickly and with relative ease at home! This truck is exactly that...and that just makes me wish I made food at home and brought it for lunch instead of spending the money. However, I was really hungry and the food was satisfying. While the food isn't bad (I don't understand how you could throw away a simple meal like this if you're hungry...unless you people need some out the world taste), it's just really nothing extraordinary or gourmet about it, which I believe, is what food trucks are supposed to be about and thus only deserves 3 stars. This truck came to my apartment complex so I figured I would give it a try. I'm Filipino and grew up on my parents home cooking, so obviously this post will be a little biased. I haven't had Filipino food in a long time so this sounded like a great chance. I ended up getting the pork adobo bowl which comes with pork, rice and an egg. It wasn't anything special for me. To a non Filipino person, it was probably good, but I've had a lot of adobo in my life and this was just meh. It wasn't bad or anything though don't get me wrong. I would have preferred more sauce on my rice though (personal preference) and I'm used to a little more flavor on the meat. Detail: This truck was the there at the "Irvine Global Village Festival 2016." I was very excited to try their "adobo rice bowl," but when I got to the truck, they ran out of rice at 12pm. Really at 12pm, which was 2 hours after the festival started. Even though I was surprise to hear that, I followed their guidance and returned in about 30mins as they suggested. I asked the gentleman in the truck to see if the rice was ready yet, and he turned and asked the lady who was cooking. She proceeded to yell to me, "YOU KNOW THERE IS OTHER FOOD" (pointing at her right side at the other vendors). Well, golly if I wanted to eat other food, I would have gotten it instead of waiting for the rice to ready. There is NO REASON to yell at someone who wants to try your food. This food truck comes to my work maybe twice a week; and I am glad they do show up. They saved me from hunger on several occasions. I am forever grateful!!!! Now to the food: Chicken adobo: It's decent, but my BF's Filipino mother cooks much better adobo. Lumpia: it's a good snack. Pork, Beef and Chicken Tacos: $2 per taco and the size is extremely generous. The meats are juicy and tasty. I love that they serve it with salsa, onions, and cilantro. They have "Lunch Truck Thursdays" near my work in Irvine, and I immediately saw this truck and gravitated to it like a moth to a flame. Lo and behold, they have ADOBO RICE BOWLS with your choice of chicken or pork. The adobo tastes just like home. Not Americanized at all. I tried the pork and it was marinated perfectly. Not too sour, not too garlicky or sweet. They top it with a fried egg, for $7! The menu also had burritos, tacos, and lumpia for $2.50. I will try that next time. When I saw the menu I was a little disappointed. The choices are pretty much Pork or Chicken Adobo Bowl, Fried Lumpia, and Flan. They added adobo burritos and tacos, because that is what food trucks do these days, but it looked to me like they were just jumping on the bandwagon. So that is my first impressions. I actually ordered the pork adobo bowl, and it was actually REALLY GOOD. The pork was moist, tender and had some of the best flavor of any Filipino adobo that I have had, and I have tried a lot. I lived in the Philippines for a couple years and never had a fried egg on adobo unless it was yesterday's leftovers for breakfast. They way they did it, they won me over. The egg was perfectly crispy on one side, and the yolk was perfectly runny on the other, it further added to the flavor of the dish. The garlic rice wasn't so good. The best Filipino garlic rice that I have had seems to toast the garlic a little, and really saturates the rice with a distinct, but not overwhelming, garlic flavor. The garlic rice in the pork adobo bowl only had a hint of garlic, that could have come from the adobo itself. It could have just been regular rice. The lumpia looked like typical lumpia. Fried tastiness at 3 for $2 isn't bad for a food truck. I didn't try it, but it is freshly cooked, so is bound to beat your typical Filipino market "fast-food." All in all, I recommend this truck for the adobo rice bowl. ($6 when I visited) You could get a filling meal by adding in the lumpia, flan and a drink for about $12 (I think) I would give them more stars if they managed to have even more promising looking options on the menu. I had the adoburrito and lumpia for lunch today. My wife is filipino, so I'm very familiar with filipino foods. The pork in the burrito was very tasty. Moist and flavorful. It wasn't SUPER adobo flavored, but I think any additional soy/vinegar flavoring would have overpowered the burrito. The rice in the burrito was perfectly seasoned with salt and garlic. There was egg and sour cream and cilantro as well. The burrito itself was pretty big - not chipotle big, but it was certainly big enough to be a meal all by itself. Very happy to get a pork adobo bowl and fried garlic rice for breakfast. Pretty tasty, decent portions and the fried egg was cooked very well. The food is what I consider pretty traditional filipino food. I grew up in a filipino household but can't cook anything myself so if you want something your 'tita' makes then you'll be okay getting something here. If you want some fancy fusion mix then you're not going to get it here, but that's not what it's about anyway. Maybe I just got them on several bad days, but... their food isn't good. I by no means am a picky eater either. This is coming from a guy who pretty much likes eating everything and anything. Their "lumpia" is pretty measly. Feels like a McDonald's chicken nugget version of lumpia. Portions are not worth the price. You have to add soy sauce to taste anything. Two thumbs down in my humble opinion. read more
