I don't even know where to begin. We came to this place because they have live music during the week and my friend sometimes sings there. So many things went wrong... I'm not sure where to begin. The waitress pretty much ignored us the entire night, I had to physically chase her down a few times. The food was horrendous... I didn't even know you could screw up a salad or simple pasta dish. My partner's beer was totally flat and tasted off. The bartender gave him such attitute and then the waitress charged us for the beer that couldn't be drunk. When we asked where the manager was, the waitress told us it was the bartender. The bartender said that he had to make us pay for the beer otherwise it came out of his paycheck.. .what? SO I walk into this place looking for somewhere to drink beer and watch some CFL Football double header action. The TVs all have GOLF on them and some others have Poker. I ask the bartender if they are going to be putting "the games" on and he replies "Why would we want to watch THAT first game???" Well, THAT GAME was the Winnipeg Blue Bombers VS the Edmonton Eskimos which are the two BEST TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE at the moment! He was hinting that they are ONLY going to be playing the BC Lions game later on. I haven't been in this bar for about a year and went in to meet a friend. After sitting down at the bar and witnessing the bar tender telling some patrons to fuck off and wait when they asked for a drink and then listening to some dinosaur at the end of the bar bad mouthing some people that weren't even there, I had to leave after one drink. It was a toxic, negative environment, I couldn't believe my ears actually. Hmm - coming back recently, I couldn't figure out why I liked this place so much last visit. I was in the same company, it was karaoke night again, similar drink specials and it was the same crowd. Was it because of the Canucks game on TV? Was I *that* drunk last time? Or my disappointment when they told me they no longer has Murphy's Irish Stout on tap? Did the nostalgia of the once proud NBI fade already? Maybe because the waitress suggested Guinness instead? Was it the realization that their draft drink specials weren't really that special? The ADMIRAL as it now named - is a very relaxing and clean establishment with OUTSTANDING food specials that are spread around during the week - their $5.25 Roast Beef Dinner on Wednesdays is better than ANY Beef Dip anywhere and far more generous and their 50% off Pasta THURSDAYS is better and bigger than ANTONS. It is a bit of an older crowd, but it is yahoo free - long gone are the days of the NBI - now that the Admiral is the dedicated eatery for THE HOWARD JOHNSON'S Suite hotel adjacent to it! The bands on weekends play good classic rock and they have the best KARAOKE on Monday's, Wednesday's and Thursday's that you will ever hear - if that is your kind of thing. If you want a relaxed good time out for some entertainment and good food - this place is perfect - if you want to pick up chicks - you will be sadly disappointed. read more

i've pretty much hit every pub in Burnaby and would say there was a reason why I never came here. Showed up on a Sunday night (only 2-3 tables) and service was extremely slow...can tell the waiter was either lazy or unmotivated. The guy never checked on us, had to consistently flag him down for service and when we ordered second round of drinks for our 4 person table, he got the drinks wrong...wtf? With so much choice in Burnaby, there is absolutely no reason to go this dump. read more

If you're of a certain age, you love live music and dancing, and you're most comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt, you're probably already a regular. Never eaten here, but have heard the food is fairly good. The patrons seem to range in age all the way from 25-80. No cover charge. Best appreciated after a few bourbons. read more

If you are looking for a complete shithole to go to, then I would definitely recommend this place. My friends and I went for a Girls Night on a Friday and the place was dead, which is not surprising since I would rather go to Trump's inauguration than go back here. The server we had was a complete Asshat and paid absolutely no attention to us even though we were the only people she was serving. She got about 0.3% of our orders right, and before we could even go to correct her, she would just turn and walk away and then return 45 minutes later; probably the amount of time it takes for her to shove her head back up her ass. Not gonna go into detail about how much she screwed up during the time we were there, because that list would be longer than the check out line in Costco on a Saturday. Although I will add, that after everything, this Assface had the audacity to literally yell at us for not tipping her enough.... LIKE ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?! you should be the one owing ME money for putting up with your intolerable, grumpy ass the entire night. Last note to add: the food was mediocre AF. Regular prices are steep for what you get. Eating what you want at the correct time and day is the key -- there are specials on every day. This is a sports pub with occasional live music, so what you're really there to do is drinking. Great food is probably an afterthought here, as it is with many such places. As sports pubs go, this is a pretty decent place: Spacious, and a good view of at least one TV no matter which way you turn. Spacing between seats is generous, and table space is also quite generous. Don't sit too close to the front when they've got a band or you're liable to walk out with a ringing in your ears for a very long time. My friend had gone several times, apparently, and for 50%-off pasta night, he recommended the West Coast Seafood while he got the Homemade Lasagne. For unclear reasons other than "more flavour" he basically poured parmesan cheese and chili flakes onto his dish. I didn't ask to try it. Also, Lasagne in a bowl is sort of odd, but there you go. West Coast Seafood ($16 normally, $8 on Thursdays) tiger prawns, wild BC smoked salmon, mussels and baby scallops in a creamy white wine and dill sauce; your choice of pasta - Instead of a lot of sauce, my pasta came tossed/coated in a thick paste. There was sauce flavour in every bite, but if you are looking for a wetter pasta swimming in thick, creamy, soupy sauce, you'll have to ask for that. - The pasta portion is basically fine for $8 and a medium to light meal. - Four mussels, maybe about the same number of prawns of OK size. - I think there were two matchbook sized pieces of smoked salmon -- read the menu carefully as it says smoked salmon, which means if it feels kind of tough and dry, you can't complain that your salmon was overcooked. - To be honest I didn't think using smoked salmon was such a great choice precisely because it felt like overcooked salmon. I'd rather they skip it entirely instead of forcing it into the menu if they can't get fresh salmon. - Sauce was okay, but there's wine and dill here? Use of smoked salmon didn't help the overall aroma. - Portion and taste is OK for $8, maybe $10 but $16 would feel steep. - Served with one rather nice piece of garlic toast. 1" thick slice of french bread, buttered and lightly garliced very evenly all the way to the edge. Save about half of this for last to mop up the leftover sauce on your plate. IF the one item I tried is any indication of the menu, then the Admiral Pub & Grill offers mediocre food--but for a cheap to very cheap price if you go on the right day, and that feature is definitely worth one star. You can get lunch/dinner for under $10 -- even less if you go on $3 burger Saturdays. read more

Don't be fooled. The decor looks nice. The menu is price extremely high for the quality. I ordered the steak and prawn "special" $18. It was a thin tough strip with tiny prawns and ice cream scoop of INSTANT mashed potatoes. The veggies were ok. Reminded me of a hole in wall diner type dish. Wow, just wow. The most uncaring restaurant I've ever encountered. Was in Burnaby for the Hats Off Parade which is supposed to be a parade where merchants take their hats off to the community. Clearly this place never got the message. We were standing outside waiting for the parade to start when my 3 year looks at me with that fear in her eyes and says... I need to pee now... I quickly took her to the closest place, which unfortunately, happened to be this establishment. After walking towards the door a lady standing outside said to me. 'We're not open yet". To which I replied my daughter really needs to pee. All of a sudden this little man standing to her left says to me... ' I don't care!' When I confronted him and asked him if he really just said that he doesn't care that my 3 year old was in need, he replied he's had 20 people asking already. This mans uncaring attitude took me off guard I was so dumbfounded be his clear un-neighborly demeanor. I will never set foot or spend one cent in a place like this. The most unfriendly place I've ever encountered. If they can treat people like this to their face, imagine what they would do to you food behind your back. Stay away! read more

I took my friend out for her birthday last night with my niece. This bar has turned to be the WORST experience. They water down the drinks, the waitresses EXPECT a 15% tip with the bill and my niece was date drugged by an unknown person. I havent been to the bar in 2 years and I had a great experience the last time I was there. New owners etc, it has turned to be the worst bar I've been to. I've been to this place many times over the years with varied results. It's Bar Food and it can be prepare well or not. Do not sit at the Bar as the bartenders allow others to push you and your drinks aside if you go up to dance. Food used to be great of good pub value. Went today had Rueben sandwich. First bite only tasted hot mustard . Very little sauerkraut or meat. Took a long time to get our appetizer of potatoe skins which were overcooked but cold. My husband had hot turkey sandwich special. Sandwich was cold. . Food with little imagination. The Ceasar Salad that came with the sandwiches was good (in all fairness). Wont eat there again unless half price appy hour. read more

Okay this won't win any international awards ... well, actually they have brought in some pretty good bands including previous members of the Powder Blues band (Tom Lavin) one of Vancouver's best talents of past. I loved the woman bassist a while back. Don't remember her name unfortunately - I think she is a regular. Last time the band was playing more oldies. Not many places in town with a good dance floor. Easy parking in the area... and good access by bus tansport. If you are peckish there are a number of fun restaurants around: greek, burgers...etc. For a relaxed evening or a group of friends its a fun place. read more
