It was shuddering, and the check engine light was coming on. I was notified it was "fixed" about a week later. I paid $6000 and took the van. It was still doing the same shuddering and check engine light coming on. I told Dylan and he said, "oh it will just go away when you drive it more". A lie. Any mechanic knows things just don't "go away". It went back to the shop to be "fixed". About 2 weeks later it was returned and I was told its "fixed". I drove the van to Lake Tahoe and it was shuddering and dong the same thing as when I brought it in the very first time, not fixed! After a week in Tahoe they reluctantly came and drove it back to Santa Rosa. This back and forth went on for about 2 1/2 months. I paid $6000 and the van is still operating the exact same way it did when I brought it in August 8th. I called the Bureau of Automotive Repair and they went to the shop and verified the van is not fixed and told the owner, Dylan, to return my van AND my $6000, (per my request) because the job was NOT done. Dylan said he will return the van on October 31st, but refused to return my money. When the Bureau of Automotive Repair tells a shop owner to return money because they didn't perform the service that was paid for, you know that business is corrupt and needs to be shut down. It is October 29, 2005 and I asked for the van back and my $6000 I paid 2 months ago, because the van runs exactly the same as when I brought it in, it's NOT fixed. I spent over $7000 on hotels because I do not live in Santa Rosa, as well as lost work, as well as an unbelievable amount of stress. Aside from not fixing the van, I had to constantly call the shop to get updates, they rarely called me to update me as to what is going on. Its like they put the van in the back and didn't care to fix it because they already had my money! Meanwhile my hotel bills were piling up. Vaughan's Transmission and Auto Repair took my $6000 and didn't fix the problem I hired them to fix. THAT IS THEFT! DISHONEST FAMILY, DISHONEST BUSINESS! I brought in a new…read moreto me 1993 LS400 that was leaking oil from the valve covers, barely failed the 25mph portion of the smog test for hydrocarbons, and I asked about a timing belt job as well as possible spark plugs and wires. I left the car and agreed to the diagnostic fee. No issues there. Darlene called me back and confirmed that the valve covers were indeed leaking, and provided a quote of around $1,000. I asked if it needed a timing belt job or if the tech thought it could also be camshaft/crankshaft seals. She put me on hold and then said "Oh yeah, it needs a timing belt job too." Not sure why she wasn't prepared with that information, but it seemed odd. The quote for that was above $2,500. I then asked about the smog and Darlene told me I had lazy catalytic converters and that they needed to be replaced at almost $3k. All in all, the quote was going to be $6,500+. I don't know if this diagnostic was malicious or simply negligent, but either way it was unacceptable. I picked up the car the next day and took it to another shop. The other shop told me I didn't need new cats, then did the valve cover gaskets, timing belt job, spark plugs & wires for about $1,000 cheaper. They also replaced the PCV valve I provided ($20 part) for free and the car passed smog with flying colors. Sure the cats may have fixed it, but you shouldn't go with the nuclear option first, at the expense of the customer.

I had my 86 Corvette at a shop in Santa Rosa for engine and transmission replacement. The…read moretransmission was taken to SR Hydramatic for rebuilding with a shift kit installation. When I received the car i complained that it shifted sluggish and could not tell shift kit was installed. Within a year the torque converter failed. Took it back and they serviced and replaced the torque converter. This car had less than 2500 miles on rebuilt tranny and engine. I drove it to my new home in San Tan Valley Az, 770 miles. Two days later 15 months after SR Hydramatic had serviced and replaced torque converter it failed again. Steve the shop owner insisted someone had messed with the throttle cable adjustment which he insisted was the cause of the first failed torque converter. NO ONE HAD TOUCHED THE THROTTLE CABLE AND STEVE REFUSED TO ACCEPT IT AS HIS BAD REBUILD I took the car to a shop in Queen Creek Az with reputable trained technicians, i asked them to examine the tranny. The torque converter failed was literally fried as well as the bands and bushings. THE MAIN CAUSE OF THE FAILED TRANSMISSION WAS DUE TO SR HYDRAMATIC INSTALLED AN UNDERSIZED PUMP WHICH WAS DESIGNED FOR A 6 CYLINDER ENGINED. THIS CAUSED EXCESSIVE HEAT WHICH FRIED THE TRANNY I HAD CALLED STEVE SEVERAL TIMES AND LEFT MESSAGES FOR HIM TO CALL ME SO I COULD TELL HIM WHY TRANNY FAILED. HE WOULD NOT ACCEPT MY CALLS OR CALL ME BACK SR HYDRAMATIC DOES NOT REBUILD TRANSMISSIONS ACCORDINGLY TO SPECIFICATIONS. PLEASE DO NOT HAVE THEM WORK ON YOU TRANSMISSION The repair shop i used for engine and tranny replacement,!reimbursed me for the cost of having the transmission rebuilt in Queen Creek Az.
