I saw Dr Maria Lamothe. She was very pleasant, answered all of my questions, and has a honest, and realistic approach to practicing Endocrinology. Dr Lamothe followed up with a phone call with my test results. She made some good suggestions and put me at ease. The office front desk staff could be alittle nicer. I found one particular older woman who checks you in to be alittle crass, and a bit rude to several of us who were sitting in the waiting room. ( Since she is the first one to greet all new and existing patients, a little kindness would go a long way.) They have multiple offices in Bridgewater, Flemington, Clinton, Westfield, Bethleham, so if you can't get into one office, try another. Dr Lamothe has great bedside manner and her approach to medicine is a breath of fresh air.

One literally hung up on me so she didn't have to bother answering my question, and when I called back it went to voice mail. Avoid at all costs. And if you are a doctor working here, I recommend replacing your staff immediately with individuals who are better trained, or don't complain about it when they hurt your business. I wouldn't trust a doctor with something as important as my health, if they aren't wise enough to hire support staff who are competent, kind and helpful.

I was guided every step of the way and made to feel very comfortable. Everyone was very patient with me and kept answering my questions until I understood what was going to happen. Everything explained was exactly what happened. Very minimal scarring - If you ever need thyroid surgery, Dr. Shifrin is the surgeon you want to do it!

After my needle biopsy showed a positive reading naturally I was very nervous. I got in to see Dr. Shifrin within a week of the biopsy results to come up with a game plan. I'm on blood thinners so it makes for a complicated case. He did another ultrasound on it to confirm the size and he thought its in my best interest to remove the whole thing instead of half bc if the surgical biopsy came back positive then I would have to go back in and remove the other side. With me being on blood thinners for life it would be dangerous to stop again so that's what we did. Leading up to the day of surgery I kept in contact with Amy C who coordinated all my visits and paperwork. She was awesome! She took all my nervous calls and calmed me down every time. Post surgery I was swelling up pretty good so I reached out to Amy who then connected my with Tara the PA. She got right back to me in between their scheduled surgeries and saw me to look at the swelling. She and Dr. Shifrin both met up with me and did another ultrasound to make sure there was no fluid build up in my neck. After they saw me they went back to their next scheduled surgery. Tara followed up with me for the next couple of days to see how I was doing. The pathology report came in within a week and it was positive for papillary cancer. Tara called me again to go over it and was very compassionate and calmed me down. I just had my 2 week follow up with both Dr. Shifrin and PA Tara Corrigan and they were pleased to tell me that all the cancer was removed and I'm free of it now. My family and I thank everyone there for walking with us through this tough scary journey. If you're shopping around for a thyroid surgeon and happened on this review please take my word and come see them. You wont regret it!

I am writing this review to help others and to warn others or anyone wanting this Doctor's care. I…read moreformally express my extreme distress and concern regarding the medical care provided to my late husband, who tragically passed away at 51 years old due to cardiac arrest approximately three weeks after his last visit to your office, where my husband was your patient for over 5 years while entrusted to your care, and you failed him. He was a walking time bomb with three blocked coronary arteries at 97%, an enlarged heart, and arteriosclerosis. If you would of been proactive as all diabetic patients are at increased risk of heart disease he would be here today but instead you left me a single Mom with 3 children. I was shocked and deeply disturbed when, during my phone call to you informing you of his death, I asked you why, with Type 2- Diabetes and a family history of heart disease, you did not send my 51-year-old husband to a cardiologist. Your answer, "HE HAD NO SYMPTOMS," SO BASICALLY YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN PREVENTATIVE CARE. Then, to my surprise, despite having his records, they show otherwise. The apparent alteration of medical records to cover up this serious omission is unacceptable and deeply troubling, as it is easy to do since you are not electronic; you still take notes on paper. It is highly concerning that your practice still relies on handwritten notes rather than electronic health records, which allows for record manipulation. I urge you to reflect on the serious consequences your lack of thoroughness has had on my family, and I hope you will consider retiring before any other lives are needlessly endangered. Furthermore, I was also a patient of yours for hyperthyroidism, and during my treatment, you never thoroughly examined my neck for nodules or checked my eyes. This negligence in basic preventative care only reinforces the lack of diligence in your practice, which tragically contributed to my husband's death. Sad but I am not the only one that has said this and knows of you Dr. Birnbaum. I dont write this reveiw lightly but with complete facts behind it SHAME ON YOU how do you life with yourself?
