She never rushes, takes her time to explain everything, and has a very calm and reassuring manner. She does excellent work! Her staff is fantastic! From Charmaine, her dental assistant, to Brian at the front desk, who is knowledgeable in insurance matters and is incredibly patient, and Patricia, the hygienist. Let's face facts here, people. No one likes going to the dentist. No matter how posh or comfortable, no matter how many cool amenities like music or TV they can add to the experience, no matter how many pain-killing drugs they inject into you, you're still going to end up with sharp tools in your mouth for an hour. No one likes that. But go we must, and if you're someone like me who has weak enamel and therefore takes many a trip to the dentist, you want to have someone like Dr. Carel working on you. The office is clean and comfortable, the staff of hygienists and receptionists are courteous, friendly, and chatty, and Dr. Carel herself is a doll. I've been seeing her since I first moved to the city, and while she can't be blamed for my tooth issues, she can be counted on to give me some stellar fillings or a remarkably painless root canal. My first mistake was choosing a dentist who practices on 5th Ave. I asked for prices on fillings and they were higher than I've ever heard. My second red flag was seeing that she went to Harvard Dental school...okay, makes sense why the prices are sky high. I went in for a regular cleaning as a new patient. The assistant did it and I did not like the way she went about it. She kept saying how horrible it was going to be (and I am always a great patient for a dentist and don't think its ever horrible) and eventually she aggravated my gums, which took a week to go away after a return trip back to get a prescription. Then the doctor comes in, takes a look at my x-rays and tells me I have 5 cavities (mind you I just got 7 cavities filled less than a year ago) and that she should probably take out my wisdom teeth (I have tiny teeth that my friends openly mock me about and have never had any discomfort from my molars in my life). Once I heard that, combined with the cleaning aggravating my gums and the sky high prices, I thanked her, asked for a copy of my x-rays and vowed never to go back. Borderline criminal. Oh...I went to a dentist a year later for a cleaning, no discomfort, friendly, the dentist did the cleaning herself, she took x-rays and said my teeth were fine. I have been a patient for 15+ years, and she does exceptional work- as confirmed by another dentist when I needed emergency work on vacation. She has done my crown, root canals, multiple cavities, onlays, so this review is coming from someone who has a lot of experience with dental work. I'm a tough patient because of my anxiety when things are in my mouth, and she and her staff are amazing. Although I moved to Raleigh, NC during covid, I still continue to see her. I hear there are others too who travel from out of state. I've sent several friends to her, and all agree with me. Friendly, courteous, compassionate, professional,honest and caring are just a few words that describes Adina Carrel when I think of her . She is a complete doll!!! Come on now people, who likes going to the dentist and be poked around with sharp tools in your mouth; certainly that wouldnt be me!!! When it comes to pain I am a complete baby!!! I am a nurse and I give injections all the time. I have been on boths sides as a giver and a taker. Being in the other side of the table isnt fun at all, honestly!!! Adina is just plain simple amazing!!! Thats why I have been coming back to her all these years, more than five years or so. Where ever I live in Queens or relocate up in Westchester, I have full trust in her that my teeth will be all taken care of...always!!! We all have many things to worry about and certainly worrying about my teeth is not even on my list since I am seeing Adina Carrel. Appointments are easy to make w friendly receptionists who return calls for date confirmation and reminders. I would easily travel 100 miles, close to 2 hours just to see Adina and I wouldn't have it any other way !!! Once in the office waiting room you are greeted with respect, Brian and Sylvia are just so nice and sweet. The place itself is modern and shick and clean and comfortabl .It surely gives you a calming feling soon as you step your foot in the office. Adina puts on a smile that calms the place and greets you with a "Hello" .."How are you!!" and chats with you like an old time friends.The hygenist comes out and calls you in at the time of your appointment,never a long wait, with a smiling face; everyone just seems hypnotized or programmed to greet you with respect and smiling ... I'm always satisfied with the hygenists cleaning, Sandy, they all do excellent, painless jobs. They all consistently reind you to floss all the time, they are surey good with their patient teaching follow ups . Then the waiting starts after th hygenist. Sittig there like waiting to see a president or a star or someone...My palms sweating .. heart pounding ... legs become restless... just fnd myself shifting around my sit back and forth, Thank goodness thy have a TV to entertain you around ... Soon as you hear Adina Carrel"s voice coming closer and closer, everything pauses, like a good calming feeling. The wait is all worth awhile !!! For real!!! Very proper and good bedside manner, very organized, she takes her time and reads your chart and carefully reads your x rays . andlets you aware of any findings, if there are any. She asks and get updates with whats been going onsince I last saw her fo a visit. She jokes around and has this funny laugh, like a machine gun laugh, a long chuckle, which makes you even laugh more with her...Oh how I love her.!!! She talks to you in the simplest lay-mens terms and precisely throws you a plan of care that will work best. She puts her honesty and professional point of view and refers you to a specialist like for me, the root canal specialist . When that's said and done she would follow up with you after collaborating w her team to find the best to treat my tooth pain . Who likes to be drilled, for real!!! When she had to drill my tooth or cavity, she mkes sure she preps you first with local anesthetic, that yo dont even feel her injecting to you and makes sure your comfortable, not to feel any pain or discomfort. Then you start to drool in and around and out your mouth and she still talkes to you even after you are all numbed up and loss control of your lips just asking is you are comfortable or are in pain . She is so easy and qiuck and light with her hands she works magic!!! She has a good bedside manner, always taking her time and talking to you all the way through during the procedure making you feel comfortable, worry-less, and confident in ALL that she does. After its all done , they after medicate you with motrin... They really Pamper me in that office!!! Then Adina chuckles some more jokes and walks you to the back desk and hands the clerk your chart. She throws you another joke and chuckles more laughs... The receptionists are great with making another follow up visit and they are so good with that... Dr. Carrel is truly the best dentist I've ever had! She fixed my teeth and beautified my smile! Dr. Carrel did such a great job on me over that last 3 years that I flew my parents out to NY just to see her, and it was worth it!! My mom's dentist recommended surgery and extractions that would have been extremely painful, stressful and expensive. However, after thorough examination, Dr. Carrel determined that such aggressive procedures were not necessary. Instead, she took a more conservative approach and was able to save 2 teeth and resolve the problem/took away her pain. Dr. Carrel even improved my mom's smile with a veneer in the front! When my mom sees her smile in the mirror, you can tell that smile comes from within, which makes me genuinely happy :-) Till this day, my mom still tells me to thank Dr. Carrel for what she did - and what she saved her from. Dr Adina Carrel and her team located at 630 Fifth Ave are EXCEPTIONAL. I have been seeing Dr Carrel as my dentist for 6 years now and I am so grateful for the thorough care and exceptional level of service I receive every SINGLE time. Last year I had veneers put in as my front teeth were crumbling from diving into the swimming pool as a 10 year old. Dr Carrel's team made sure firstly that the insurance covered as much as possible before bringing me in for the procedure. I have a busy schedule working at an Investment Bank and her team always find time to schedule me when I can attend between client meetings. I had the veneers fitted and then shaped in two subsequent appointments and am so incredibly happy with the result and absolutely wish I had gotten it done earlier. Dr Carrel, Thank you ! Just prior to year end, I got an infection under my crown on the left side of my mouth, Dr Carrel made time to see me immediately, took X-rays to see I had the infection and was able to get me into a specialist (Dr Steven Lipner) as soon as possible leveraging her relationships in the industry. She took pressure off the tooth and gave me antibiotics to help rid the infection. She did not charge me a single cent. Again her team took such good care of me. I was incredibly appreciative. Her Hygienist Dianna is absolutely fantastic as well. I have my cleaning completed twice yearly by Dianna and she does such a thorough job ensuring any build up is removed and my teeth and gums are completely clean, shiny and protected. She is careful to be thorough yet gentle with my mouth and cares about my teeth and gums just as much as I do which is nice. I can not recommend Dr Adina Carrel, Dianna and the rest of her team enough. I have been going to dr carrel for 8+yrs. I have had many different dental issues over the years and she has handled each one to try and do the best thing not the most costly thing for me. She has great way with me to be patient that I may get scared at first so she will explain it for me in more detail and answer my questions, but then she gives me tough love and tells me when I really don't have a choice. The only reason she doesn't get 5 stars is because everyone clearly likes her too so sometimes it is difficult to get an appointment that is convenient to me. read more

AVOID AVOID AVOID. I was referred to Dr. Carrel. I didn't have dental insurance at the time, and I was looking for an affordable cleaning. I went there and her hygienist is beyond horrific. My gums hurt for the first time ever at a cleaning because she's rough. I told her she was, but she blamed me for not taking care of my teeth. She also berated me for not flossing all the time. I felt uncomfortable the entire time. They took xrays and said that I had two cavities that needed to be addressed. One was urgent. Out of fear, I let her "fill my cavity." I felt that the work was done poorly because it was rough. I previously had a perfectionist dentist who had always done a clean job if I ever had a filling. She could have done the second cavity but she could tell I was hesitant. She said it could be addressed at the next visit. My gut told me this whole thing was a scam. I got emails about my check up, but at that time, I decided to get dental insurance and see my previous dentist. BTW, my visit with Carrel was around $500. I just wanted a cleaning and ended up with extra "work." So I went to the other dentist who checked my xrays. There was no sign of cavities. They were able to compare from my old xrays. The hygienist was so gentle and I told her about how awful the previous hygienist at Dr. Carrel's was. I asked the dentist if the work done was unnecessary and he said most likely. There was no evidence of any filling coming out. Yes, the visit at this dentist would have been $450 for a cleaning and xrays if it was out of pocket, but my insurance covered it. But Dr. Carrel's visit cost me a drilling in my mouth and a horrible cleaning experience. I do not have horrible dental hygiene but her hygienist basically scared me that I could have gum disease and all sorts of stuff if I didn't do what she told me to do. I do not write reviews that much, but when there is an unethical dentist or doctor, others should know. I never told the individual who referred me to her what happened. She obviously likes Dr. Carrel. But she probably doesn't know what it is like to experience a good hygienist. She too says her mouth hurts after a cleaning. I told her it wasn't normal, but that's her choice to go to a subpar dental facility. read more

I've seen a few dentist until I finally found the right one. Dr. Carrel is a professional in every sense. She is friendly, courteous, honest and professional. She treats me with my health in mind. I've gone to other dentists in the past who have told me I had to have deep cleaning and had receding gum lines to make a few bucks off of me but not Dr. Carrel. She would treat what was definitely necessary. She checked my gum lines and said they were fine and deep cleaning treatment was not necessary. She was very attentive and concerned when I complained of a toothache and saw me right away. I ended up having a bad abcess needing to see an oral surgeon. I have recommended several friends to Dr. Carrel who have become long time patients. If you want a dentist that cares and does top work, Dr. Carrel is for you. I have been seeing Dr. Carrel for over one year now. She and her stellar team of hygienists have helped nurse my gums back to health. Apparently, I had been having gum issues without really knowing it. My previous dentist didn't pay nearly the amount of attention to my gums or teeth that Dr. Carrel and her staff do. After a couple of deep cleanings that helped my gums heal, Dr. Carrel set to repairing a couple of old fillings that had since developed decay. She was able to save the root of one of the teeth due to her delicate and careful approach. I appreciated this. I would give her a 5 star except she doesn't accept my insurance. Nevertheless, the fact that I keep coming back to her is probably the best compliment that I can pay a health care provider, especially when I am paying cash out of pocket! read more

Her work and skill is excellent and over the years, I can say that the work is perfect each and every time. AVOID THIS DENTIST IF YOU WANT GOOD SERVICE! At this practice, they have hygenists who perform teeth cleanings so your interaction with the dentist is for purposes other than this. Therefore if you want any kind of consultation about your teeth, you will want someone with a bedside manner. You want unrushed courteous service. You will not get either of these qualities with Dr. Carrel. She acts like she is on commission the way she rushes you in order to attend to other patients or other affairs. Maybe she had a train to catch before she treated me. Who knows. All I know is she acted like she could care less about my questions and concerns. {I wouldn't be surprised if she read this review or my review on other sites and suddenly changed her attitude.} The beautiful thing is I have great insurance so I can choose from many other dentists who appreciate and respect their patients. I am a fan of Dr. Carrel, but not the entire practice. Dr. Carrel is extremely thorough, skilled, patient and professional (Harvard dent, no less). If you do become a patient at Manhattan Dental Arts, I'd advise you to keep close track of any insurance reimbursements you might expect. The practice insists on being paid up front and promises to reimburse you if the insurance check comes to the office. I suspect I have not received all my reimbursements. OMG, I hate to go to the Dentist!! I am the worst patient; deathly afraid, literally shaking in my chair, turn pale and my hands starts to sweat... I complain, moan, yelp out in pain..so I don't think it is any easier for the dentist to put up with me, than for me to deal with them! Some time ago, I was lucky enough to end up at Manhattan Dental Arts, in Dr Carrel's chair. What a difference a person can make! She was kind and comforting, explaining what I needed, what are my options and choices, what HAS TO BE done and what can wait a little. ( turns out, not much can wait!) So I have been visiting the office fairly often . The staff is always accommodating ( I really enjoyed the receptionist, Brian- too bad, he is not there anymore!) , try to make sure that I am as comfortable as can be; the office is modern, and Dr Carrel is amazing. I have had everything done from just a simple filling to a root canal-- she even took my Hubby , when he needed an emergency appointment! Thorough, detailed, knowledgeable and a lovely lady! I would highly recommend her services to everyone - especially if you are a wuss! She actually puts up with that , and even gives you some Nitrate gas i you ask for it.... I also would like to mention Diana, the Hygienist, who is gentle, and fast , making sure causing the least amount of pain with the most effective work!
