I am giving Dr. Magnani a zero rating but in order to post this review, I had to give him one star which he doesn't deserve! Not only did I pay him upfront for crowns, he literally filed down the wrong tooth and in addition put a hole in my tongue while filing!! I had to ask for an antibiotic when the hole in my tongue starting getting black! They didn't even check what meds I was on so they gave me the wrong antibiotic and could have killed me!! I started with my orthodontist in 11/08/16 and was sent to Dr. Magnani in 9/17/18 when my braces were removed and my teeth were in perfect condition including the bite! He then started to replace crowns and even filed down a perfect tooth unnecessarily without remorse! He then had to redo the crowns twice, which ruined my bite. He kept cancelling appointments to put in the permanent crowns, which resulted in my roots dying. He then sent me for two root canals! Thereafter, since my bite was off due to his fault, my teeth still hurt and I was always in pain! If Dr. Magnani did the job right, I wouldn't still, as of this date, 1/16/23 have to be in treatment again with my Orthodonist! He blamed everything on her which is totally outrageous since he was the person doing the crowns and as a "Prosthodontic Dentist", a specialty, this should have NEVER occurred! He wasted my monies and caused me pain and discomfort and from 9/17/2018 - 7/20/2020 wasted my time and beyond!! I spent more time in his chair than at my work desk!! Additionally, this whole time I had to see my Orthodontist so she can fix his mistakes and since 11/08/2016 to date 1/16-2023, she has been fixing his mistakes and I had to incur additional fees! There is no better dentist and staff in NY State in my experience and I've been seeing Dr. Magnani for 34 years. Many of my friends see him, too, as I never miss an opportunity to recommend his services. I trust him completely and it's been clear from the beginning that my continued health (which includes healthy gums and teeth) is important to him. Everyone is friendly; they're organized and accommodating. The office is bright, clean and the air smells fresh, not that that matters! I feel lucky that I've got a great dentist and will be able to eat food with my own teeth when I'm ancient and in a care facility ;-). read more

I went to 7W51 Dental Group for a much needed cleaning and exam. Every step of my appointment was seamless, impressive, and enjoyable! They have clearly done a lot of work to prepare the office for safety, which made me feel very safe and comfortable to be there. I filled out a very thorough yet easy patient form on an iPad, which had a disposable protective barrier. Then, I saw Jackie for my cleaning. The cleaning was incredibly comfortable and she did a wonderfully thorough job. My teeth feel like new! Then, I saw Dr. Mary Magnani for my exam. She was exceptionally professional and easy to talk to. My fiance had an appointment as well. He needed 2 fillings and Dr. Mary Magnani offered to do them on the spot, making our lives SO much easier. So as my first real venture out "into the world" since New York City shutdown 3 months ago, I was quite nervous about what I would find once I arrived at Dr. Magnani's office. I must say that today's experience set a very high bar for other medical professionals as far as making me feel secure. First, the information provided ahead of time about what protocols are being followed in the office were very reassuring. And everything I experienced, from checking in (temperature and pulse/oxygen check), to the hand sanitizer everywhere you looked, to the special protective dividers around the reception area, to the new tools used by the hygienist to limit the amount of droplets sprayed out of my mouth, to the care and concern about when I could leave the treatment room I was in...it all added up to a well-thought out AND well-executed plan. Ivy is the best. Such an intense tooth cleaning. The pain is worth it, and the pain is additionally muted while she talks about her salad days of seeing Bon Jovi. It's rare that you have a blast having your teeth picked at, but Ivy brings it. That being said, I think they're trying to talk me into getting a nightguard for grinding, but are kind of honest with me about the fact that it's my fault for being so stressed out. They're accomodating and did I mention the first time I went here I was in the waiting room for forty-five minutes with LIZA MINELLI? I have been getting my teeth cleaned by Ivy for the past 11 years and she is by far the best. Trust me, the cleaning won't be easy (for you), but she does an incredible job and obviously cares about her patients and the work she does for them. You never feel rushed during her appointments and she tells you exactly what she's doing as she's doing it, which is great. She also gives great tips on things to do at home to make your teeth and gums healthier. She has a great sense of humor and doesn't make you feel too guilty for not flossing. I cannot recommend Ivy enough. She also works with Dr. Magnani who is a great dentist, constantly telling me to follow Ivy's advice so I don't waste money on him having cavities filled, etc. Great to go to a dentist that tells you to do what you can to avoid paying him. Dr. Spizuoco, a dentist who works with Dr. Magnani, is also a great dentist. Side note: Don't be discouraged by a long waiting list to see Ivy. She has the long list for a reason. read more

I have good news and bad news, but first a general review: This is easily the best dentist's office I've ever had the pleasure of frequenting. I wish I could give them 6 stars. Dr. Magnani is everything you could want in a loud, no-nonsense, East Coast dentist, accent and all. He'll be humming a tune as he inspects your teeth -- dentistry is second nature to him by now. Dr. Spizuoco is probably the most gentle dentist I've ever had, and her demeanor is simply calming. They are both top-notch and interchangeable in my mind. Dentistry, like all medicine, involves a certain degree of trust on the patient's part. I have never suspected either one of recommending anything but what was necessary to keep my teeth in great shape. Dr. Fine did an implant for me last year which has functioned perfectly so far. Magnani even warrantied the crown for 10 years! The office support staff is also top-notch and really make you feel at home. Now for the bad news: I was dismayed to learn this morning that Ivy is gone, her family having relocated away from the city. Ivy has been cleaning my teeth for at least five years now, and it's a major bummer. Everything the other reviewers said about her is true, right down to recounting her Bon Jovi concerts of olde, and also gossiping about current events -- rhetorically, since you can't talk with her hands in your mouth. I wish I had written Ivy a review sooner. Ivy, if you see this, thank you for years of awesome cleanings! I miss you already! Good luck with everything. But there is good news: Ivy's replacement, Anastasia, is wonderful. A bit gentler than Ivy, even, but every bit as thorough. I didn't think there would be any replacing Ivy, but I was pleasantly surprised by my experience today. It finally prompted me to write this review after so many years. Ivy fans need not worry about this change. She's great. This office may be a bit pricier than other dentists, but it's worth every penny, IMO, and it's better to pay a little extra up front for a kind, caring, 6 star experience than save a few bucks and regret it down the road. Dr Magnani is great. He is engaging, informative and helpful. The hygienists are also good- technically strong, kind, helpful. But the other dentist there is a disaster. Today she completely ignored me as she spoke to the hygienist about some television program and then from outside the room said "you are ok until next time". This dentist also was heavy handed in forcing me to buy an expensive mouth guard, suggesting certain teeth were at risk until I bought the pricey mouth guard. I would recommend only if you are very clear with them to only see Magnani. I was very clear on this a couple of years ago but had to see the other dentist today. I again today told the receptionist I only want to see Magnani. If I see the other dentist again I am moving on. read more

I would not recommend this dentist. I am writing this review on behalf of my fiancé who's bad review was screened out. Mine might also be screened but in any event I recommend you find a new dentist (perhaps younger, takes insurance) who will not overcharge you while underperforming. My fiancé's crown literally fell out of his mouth after being placed by Dr. Magnani. Then, he proceeded to tell him to come to the office and have it fixed at no cost. That is until he went to leave and was charged over 1k. Dr. Magnani spoke down to him and called him insane. I wouldn't say that is a therapeutic patient relationship..... Good luck! read more

This is the best dentist I've gone to in NYC. Make sure to book Ivy as a hygienist. My teeth are a few shades whiter when she is done with me! I sent my mom pictures and she couldn't believe the difference. Ivy also helped me get into a flossing regimen and taught me how to floss around the wire behind my bottom teeth. Another great thing about this office is that they won't try to sell you anything you don't need. I have gone in for 2 cleanings so far and they don't try to sell me whitening, etc like many other dentists I've gone to. If you want to take care of your teeth, go to Ivy and Dr. Magnani! read more

Every hygenist who's cleaned my teeth (Joannie, Margaret) does a thorough, excellent job. I just went this morning, and Margaret managed to remove all tea stains I had from my 7-cup a day habit. Dr. Magnani is a little boisterous and can probably make introverts nervous, but you probably won't interact with him much, if at all since he now has an associate who's very low-ley and nice. There are flat screen TVs everywhere, which is nice. The downside is that Dr. Mag's fee for service, so you can pay up to $240 upfront for a cleaning and have to wait a couple of months to be reimbursed by your insurance. read more

A few months ago, I broke one of my front teeth on a Friday night playing ball at the gym. I called about five dentists for emergencies that night with no luck. Most of them said as long as it's not painful (it wasn't) that I should contact them on Monday and throw away the other part of the tooth ("it's useless, we'll just fill it with bonding"). Then I was recommended to Dr. Magnani. Dr. Magnani made a special visit at 7am on Saturday morning. He wasted no time getting to work and even bonded the ORIGINAL piece of tooth back on. He cut me a deal on the price and I ended up paying only ~$150 out of pocket (other places would've cost me $250+). I now go to him for cleaning as well and as everyone else posting here on Yelp already mentioned, they are very thorough and efficient. Their cleaning comes in three steps, which I don't even fully understand but I know that they definitely do things (like the stain blasting?) that no other dentist I've ever had does. read more

Try to book a cleaning with Ivy if you can - the waiting list is super long but you'll have your teeth cleaned like never before. I'm overdue for an appointment (afraid to show up because I haven't been flossing regularly!), but Dr. Magnani has done extensive work on my mouth and he was fantastic every step of the way. Dr. Magnani and his staff are excellent. My teeth have never been healthier or looked better. They cover a lot of little details to ensure a high comfort level, such as using a numbing gel on your gums for cleanings, applying vasoline on your lips to avoid irritation from the tools and giving you plastic safety glasses to deflect any spray. Also, I never have to wait very long to be seen. Dr. Magnani himself is quite a character. He does tend to brag about his dental skills and criticize other dentists' work, which can come across as cocky. But he's a really friendly and funny guy, and, hey, I don't mind cockiness in a dentist! read more
