My experience with Smooth Movers LLC (aka Fresh Start Moving, Adept Moving and Storage, Zip to Zip Moving, Cross Country Moving) was not positive. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Move Rescue and Joshua Swyers for his coaching of how to deal with this situation. Rather than share my opinions, I will list facts:
-I signed up on a website that helped you pair yourself with interstate movers. Smooth Movers LLC contacted me. Their pitch was to use the BBB link for a Smooth Movers LLC in Wyoming which is a legitimate company. I failed to realize they were, in fact, in Norcross, GA. Also, they were $2,000 to $3,000 lower in estimate than their competitors.
-Smooth Movers LLC charges you based upon cubic feet. My not-to-exceed estimate was $3,000 dollars below what I ended up paying. Smooth Movers LLC will not tell you the total cost of the move until your items are on the truck and it is too late to do anything. For the record, I asked the moving crew twice to provide me an estimate before they began loading.
-The contact person will be one or all of the following: Tyler Felty, Taylor Igneri, or Kate Perez. Taylor told me on numerous occasions that he is the manager of this (these) business/businesses. Because most of my work was with Taylor, I found that he would not answer the phone for me unless he had a specific update. The two week period after my first available delivery (FAD), Taylor spent two weeks dodging my calls, texts, and voicemails. When he finally did call me back (2 weeks and 3 days after FAD) he claimed that the app on his phone that allowed him to receive calls was broken.
-When I booked, Tyler informed me that my pickup would between 9 AM and 11 AM. Taylor informed me the day of move that the movers would be three hours late. For the record, they were four hours later than the three hours Taylor said they would be.
-The Smooth Movers LLC contract states they have 30 business week days (note: not business days) to deliver you. The Department of Transportation says that the reasonable time for delivery is within 21 business days (note: not week days). Taylor told me again and again that you will be delivered on a certain time and day. In summary I was told my goods would be delivered:
"On my FAD"
"A few days after my FAD"
"Sometime this weekend"
"Sometime next weekend"
None of these were true. For the record, my belongings arrived 5 weeks and 3 days after my FAD.
-On the day of delivery, the driver showed up without a crew. I was asked by the driver to help unload my own belongings. When I told Taylor that the driver came by himself he told me 'sorry'.
-You are required to pay through Money Orders. When I asked if I could pay by Credit Card, I was told I had used my total credit card allotment (note: I had never used a card). Per Move Rescue's Joshua Swyers, this is a huge cue that you are dealing with a 'fraudulent entity.'
-After going through my belongings, I am missing three pieces of furniture. Approximately $1,000 in value. One hundred percent of my boxes were either completely destroyed or wet.
-Taylor told me on three different occasions that Smooth Movers LLC is not a broker. Upon delivery, I asked the driver if he worked for Smooth Movers, LLC. He told me, "I work for Boost Moving. I was hired by Taylor (no company affiliation) to do this job." Based upon this information, I can only conclude that Smooth Movers LLC is in fact a broker and Taylors statements were false.
I hope that my review can provide insight into the incredibly negative experience I had. Prior to being scammed, contact Move Rescue for help. read more
