Reuben $10.50

No. Absolutely not. We usually get sandwiches for work from Lunardis but Adeline popped up on my Yelp as the neighborhood hidden gem that beats Little Lucca's so today I finally got a Reuben to try. WTF?! No way. Looks like a sad sandwich I made when I was 10 years old. The meat tasted like stringy, low grade refrigerated crap. And the Reuben is supposed to be one of their specialties??! Don't be fooled! Just for the record, a proper Reuben should have toasted buttered rye. I got a soft sliced wheat bread. A proper Reuben should also have 1/4lb corned beef, 2 slices of Swiss, thousand island dressing, and sauerkraut. Well I got the sauerkraut alright.... but the rest of the sandwich is seriously lacking. Take a look at my pic and you be the judge! As for the market itself, there were a lot of really old expired products on the shelves. Some were so old that the price tags were faded from constant sun exposure. This is definitely a red flag and makes you question the freshness of anything they sell. The bags of chips though, now those are definitely still fresh because that's about the only thing people buy. At lunch, there's a lot of construction crew stopping by to get a simple sandwich, drink and chips combo. I will DEFINITELY NOT BE BACK and will do my best to warn others...

Turkey with Avocado and Jalapeños on Dutch Bread
Allison C.

Great, fast service for delicious, well priced Sandwiches! I got a Turkey on Dutch bread with everything (including peppers and avocado). It was real avocado not just pre-mashed. The serving size was huge, fresh and delicious! Highly recommend for a quick grab and go!

Great, quick service from a family business. Can't beat it. It's been in the neighborhood for almost 40 years for a reason.

However, after my experience this morning at this store, I felt compelled to leave a review. Today, May 19th, at approximately 7:55 AM, I walked into the store looking to purchase flowers for my wife. Almost immediately, I was approached by an employee named Lisa. Rather than greeting me or politely informing me that the store wasn't open yet, she aggressively came toward me. Speaking rudely with food in her mouth, she snapped, "No. Get out. We're not open," shooing me away like some kind of fly. I was completely shocked. I entirely respect store hours and would have happily stepped outside for five minutes had I been asked nicely. What I cannot accept is being treated with immediate hostility, spoken to with a mouth full of food, and ordered to "get out" like a trespasser. This behavior is completely antithetical to the Trader Joe's brand. I bring this to your attention in the hope that local management will address this incident with Lisa and reinforce standard customer service etiquette. As I was leaving, I asked for her name. After telling me her name was Lisa, she followed up with the same attitude, "You want the store number too?" I'm sure she wants a follow-up conversation about this incident with management.

Safeway - ground floor covered parking

Safeway

What a strange, strange Safeway…read more The highlight of the place is that the first level of the building is the parking level. The only part of the "store" on this level is the staircase and elevator. Otherwise, I think the store takes up the entirety of the second floor. The elevator has a huge car that can fit many people and shopping carts, but it took a long time, both to be called and to move, when I was coming and going. It was only when I left that I noticed that there are actually two entrances: the one I used near the middle of the parking lot and the one farther north. When you come up from the central stairs/elevator, it's as if you're inside any other Bay Area Safeway. Besides customer service being right next to this entrance, nothing else would alert you that you've floating over all this parking. Like almost every other Bay Area Safeway, the layout is both familiar and slightly different. You'll generally find the bakery and produce sections on opposite sides, but beyond that, everything is just so. In this store's case, all the cheese is in a regular refrigerated aisle; in most stores, it's along the back wall. It's one of the few Safeway stores that hasn't added local street names to its aisles. That was cute at first, but now that seemingly every Safeway (and at least one Vons in SoCal) has that--and some of the names are misspelled or have the wrong street type--I'm over it. Aisle 3 can just be aisle 3. It doesn't have to double as El Camino Real. I was shocked at how few people were in the store on a Saturday night. Because of this, I barely had to wait in line for checkout, and I was downstairs at my car pretty quick. The checker did a pretty poor job of bagging, but it wasn't atrocious, just wrong. I happened to be returning some canned goods here when I came. When I got to customer service, a woman was arguing her point about some discount she received in addition to WIC or some other need-based debit card. Two different customer-service people were standing there listening to her argument, and even after they had each explained to her three times the different options for resolving her issue, she continued to argue. That's fine, more power to her, but I don't understand why one of the customer-service people couldn't start providing me with customer service. When I finally did speak to the younger person, she didn't know whether they would accept my return, and she had to wait for the other person to confirm that they wouldn't accept my return. For some reason, Safeway doesn't accept returns after thirty days, even with a receipt. These were canned goods that didn't expire until 2028, but a policy is a policy, I guess. I ended up leaving the cans there, because I didn't want them. When I left the store about a half-hour later, the cans were still sitting on the customer-service counter, untouched.

I had an incredibly frustrating experience at this Safeway location involving a defective product…read more I purchased a bottle of wine that had a faulty seal; it leaked all over my car and other groceries before it was even opened. When I brought the 1/3 empty, defective bottle back for a return, I dealt with Chrischelle at the customer service deck. Her behavior was completely unprofessional. She was immediately defensive and actually shoved my receipt back at me. Even worse, she tried to mislead me by citing "ABC laws" to claim she couldn't refund a defective item--which was untrue given the circumstances. The "Defective" ABC Exception: Under California Business and Professions Code Section 25600, a retailer is permitted to refund or exchange an alcoholic beverage if the product is defective, spoiled, or unfit for consumption. A leaking bottle with a compromised seal falls squarely into this category. Despite acknowledging the product was faulty and that I was within the return window, she remained rude and refused to help. I eventually had to file a credit card dispute, which I won easily because the bank agreed the item was defective. Save yourself the headache and go to a store that actually stands behind its products and treats customers with basic respect.

I would scan my Safeway card, nothing would happen & the cashier would have to reset the screen. Checker after checker nobody knew why for months. I'd be waiting there a min. of my life. I literally broke down on one knee with my hands in the air & said I don't know what the problem is. A bagger explained that everything's electronic now so my Safeway card won't work anymore. I discarded it, ever since, I've had to press my phone number into the screen taking up time & exposing myself to germs. At the self-checkout the automated voice asked you to scan your card, geez! On 5/19/25 I get Pre-Made market food at 15:00, when I got home 5-min away. The chicken was rock hard. In 2025 I bought a 12-in package of salami which was a little less expensive than the pre-cut one. Next to it I was charged an even higher price and they the regional manager rep I showed a picture of the display said that this shouldn't even be set up like this virtually knowing I got ripped off from the receipts and picture. In the fall of 2025 I passed by the manager's special rack & got a can of super hot chicken noodle soup. I was shocked that I was charged $8 on a can of soup 50% off. There's an amount of checkers they have that's an issue and buying alcohol I have to wait. I've had multiple issues with buying alcohol & the "ever-changing sales" attached to them. One of the receipts in my picture is regarding a charge for the buy one get one discount. You can tell from the timestamp it was nearing midnight which, means a minimal crew working. I don't like to hold up my fellow patrons or wait anywhere anymore to rectify purchase issues. I tend to want to get in & get out. There is only one item available so I ended up getting charged full price. The day after Thanksgiving I had a hangover & looking for replishment I forget to sign in to get the sale & ended up getting charged $5.49 for a $3.49 on sale orange juice. This is technically my fault, but it goes to show that it's leaving the shopping exp. confusing, time consuming where every shopping exp. we have to stop in the middle of every other product or aisle in order to pull out our phones or might look like one of these mindless sheep where we're constantly looking down on our phone, whether it's on the road or in the grocery store scrolling through pictures & hitting tabs to open up pages. It's dangerous & unnecessary. I've bought the Safeway select ranch for over a decade. I sometimes buy extra. On my B-day as part of a promo I bought 2 extra ones & got stuck with 2 expired ones when in need. This is the first time this has happened with any product & I believe somehow I got sold some soon-to-be expired ranch I wasn't expecting. I spoke with someone who used to be the manager of the Burlingame store and is now so regional manager in Sac. On the over 20-min call I went over all of my issues while sending her pictures so she had everything she needed. At the end she tried to tell me that I could always go up to the service desk to get my refunds if I had any issues and I told her at almost 40 years old I'm tired of wasting my time in that line or waiting for someone to come to that area and go through that process of getting my money back. And I was here writing this complaint in order to get a solution & which I wanted $200 in compensation. She didn't ever contact me afterwards. After rejecting Safeway's response they forwarding my complaint to Sedgwic. I continued to email the POC with current Up-To-Date issues at the same location that had had ripped me off & inconvenienced me, but no reply. Then on 2/./26 I got a call from the rep. with Sedgwick who is a 1/5 star Co. Who deals Workers compensation claims. I've actually dealt with them with such a claim years ago & they're very unprofessional/shady. He told me he only knew of one of my issues & if I had other issues they'd be different claims. It seemed tedious/time-consuming so I didn't proceed with my complaint. This just shows that they don't care maybe because they're mostly still a monopoly in certain areas.
