Keep in mind that I'm comparing this place to hostels I've stayed at, not hotels, motels, bed and…read morebreakfasts or anywhere like that. Five stars is a pretty big call, but this place really deserves it. It's clean, the beds are comfy enough, and it's cheap. I've stayed at what's called The Guesthouse, which is where you stay if you're travelling with your other half or with friends, because you'll have some semblance of privacy. The price was certainly very appealing, and if you're travelling on a budget, I thought that this was one of the best options.

I've stayed here for one night way back before I moved to Adelaide. In comparison to other hostels…read moreI've stayed at it's very clean. And I don't just mean the dorms but also the kitchen and the bathrooms. I've stayed in their building across the road, called The Guesthouse. The 6 bedroom dorm was full and although many people had a lot of baggage on them, there was plenty of space in the room. People at the reception were very friendly and I chatted for a while with a guy who had moved from the UK to Adelaide and now works there. Near the reception you have a small lounge area with free wi-fi and TV. There's also an outside area at the back for all the smokers. The atmosphere stroke me as very relaxed and friendly. It was definitely not a crazy party hostel but people were still socialising and trying to get to know you and where you're from. Luckily I now have my own place in Adelaide and don't need to stay in hostels anymore, but if I had to I certainly wouldn't mind going back here.

I have been a Youth Hostels Association member for many years, but you do not have to be a YHA member to stay in this clean and utilitarian accommodation. You should be fresh faced and ready to pay the reasonable rates. You should be happy to clean up after yourself in the shower room or the kitchen and you should be a happy camper willing to share the lounge room without demanding everything is your way (like what music is playing or what film is being screened on the TV) If you are they type who is able to enjoy hostel type arrangements, this is one of the finest in the state. It's not as noisy as some inner city hostels, like the ones in Sydney or Auckland (NZ) for example. There are lots of really excellent and cheap eating venues within walking distance in Gouger Street, there is a public swimming pool about ten minutes away on a bike or bus and only a thirty minute walk away (through the park lands) there is Internet access and there are usually lots of rooms available if you don't mind sharing in a bunk bed room - usually there's no more than six in one room so it doesn't get massively overcrowded. Adelaide is a university city so it is not unusual to find many students at the start of the year here doing what I did - looking around for long term accommodation from the hostel base. The price range per person per night starts at just under $30 so it is very reasonable indeed.

Two grips however it doesn't have a pool, and the roof view to the west looks at skyscrapers and roof tops. However if you are an early riser check out the roof top at sunrise. Ohhhhh two more negatives sorry when you are pay $400 a night for your room the least they could do is actually make you a fresh cup of coffee. UNFORTUNATELY! The have one of those automatic push the button and the machine pours out brown water with no flavor! If you ask for a real cup of coffee they want to charge you more for it. Seriously $400 dollars for my room and I still have to pay for my coffee! So I giving it a very weak 4 star's just like there weakest coffee possible! Yuk!

Ok, maybe I'd throw in the word comfort too, for this hotel had the most comfortable bed of my entire two week trip. Yup, I was as snug as a little joey in his mother's pouch. Oh, and the carpeted floors were simply Heaven with so much spongy padding underneath the carpet that I felt like I was walking on a cloud. I swear this experience was just like taking a trip to a spa, and it had me crying, "Why can't my carpets at home be this awesome!" Finally, the location of this one rocks!! The whole area near the hotel is loaded with bars and restaurants of just about every style--why I even found a sushi conveyor-belt restaurant around the corner. Kanpai! Yes Sir, whatever language you want to say it in---Kanpai, Cheers, Hooray, or Good On YA ----The Majestic Roof Garden Hotel is a winner.
