Appetizer was big-city elegant and the service was over the top perfect. Can't wait to go back tho it's pricey

So, my neighbour has been nagging me for some time now to call in to "that place with the railcars" just outside of Soldotna, but I'd not yet been. Though she hadn't mentioned there was a restaurant, she raved about the coffee shop and waffles. So my friend and I were coming to Soldotna last weekend, and me, as usual, am frantically searching Yelp for something with 4/5 stars. Addie Camp came up as a contender, with a solid 4.7 stars, but I hadn't realised it was where the railroad cars are. So we decided to give it a go. What a beautiful area it is, once you get up into the parking lot! It's very neat and tidy, and all the little railroad cars surround the central parking lot. And there's really massive solar panels to the rear. I liked that. There was not a scrap of trash anywhere. Very inviting. So we head into Addie Camp, and I'm wowed. It's beautiful inside, cosy and welcoming, yet very modern. The staff are lovely. The hostess asked if we had a reservation, but as we didn't she invited us to sit at the bar. No problem! They have tables upstairs, and in a railroad car to the side. It's absolutely beautiful, and features a lot of warm wood, but not old wood, very light modern wood. I tell you, I'm in love with this place. Anyway so we sit at the bar, where Sam was mixing cocktails. Sam is very pleasing on the eye, I might add. He was using Fevertree Tonic in one of the cocktails, and I told him that Fevertree's Elderflower Tonic is one of my fave drinks ever, and he said he loved it too. Anyway, so upon perusing the menu - it's not a huge menu, but there are plenty of things I'll eat - I ordered the Gold Star Elk Burger with rosemary fries, and my friend got Gambas Al Ajillo (Spanish style wild Patagonia Shrimp in a spicy olive and herb citrus sauce served with fancy bread) and we both opted for a Train Track Tonic Mocktail, mainly because Sam the bartender told me he had elderflower syrup, and it was featured in one of the mocktails, so I was sold. The napkins are fabric, and the silverware is fancy, heavy, not your usual restaurant fare. I was quite impressed with how quickly we were served, because it was quite busy. The food itself was outstanding. The bacon jam in this burger is EPIC and it's not your usual tiny bacon crumbles, it had chunky bits of bacon, and was sweetly gooey, but savoury too, absolutely the best bacon jam I've had, and it just gave the already amazing burger a boost it didn't even really need. There's no way to eat this burger in a dainty ladylike fashion, it's a beast, and the bacon jam is messy, but I went with it, and Sam got us some extra napkins. About 3/4 of the way through, I had to go knife and fork on the burger. I wasn't leaving any of that thing. The fries were good, the burger good, the mocktail good, excellent service, very attentive. This is unquestionably THE best restaurant on the Kenai Peninsula, and I can't wait to come back with my husband, next time we're down there. And, I did see regulars come in and be treated like they were old friends. After my experience there, I can see why people would keep coming back, it's THAT good! read more

When we entered the hostess asked first where we wanted to sit. The rail car, upstairs or at the bar? The Rail Car Please! TALK ABOUT IMMEDIATE COOL FACTOR! They serve beer and wine so we perused the choices. Judy got a Cabernet and I picked a beer, Midnight Sun Brewing Co Panty Peeler Belgian Tripel really nice brew not too hoppy, smooth and it's an Amber Ale we drank while soaking in the ambiance of the 1918 rail car we were going to dine in! When I saw the Elk Burger with Rosemary Fries I was sold! Med Rare please! It came perfect temperature too! Judy ordered the Salmon Noodle Bowl Excellent! But what drew us in to start was the Homer Oysters! The mignonette sauce was perfect. They were so good we opted for another 1/2 Dozen as our Dessert! Service was amazing! Attentive super frienffolks work here! Oh, they also have 2 EV Charging Stations although they were not fully set up. I still charged while just plugged into the wall outlet. A super quaint or cool location in SOLDOTNA on the top of the hill coming into town. The ambiance is special with a passenger train from 1913 as a location for a meal if you choose. A nice renovation with fine linen and beautiful views. The service was great with kind and friendly server and bus person. Never had to wait and got refills as needed without asking. Ok enough about the feel let's talk food. The oysters were small but delicious with a nice flavor on top of garlic. Fresh and flavorful local oysters. The appetizers were taste and large. Provided a fair amount to both of us. We split the filet which was butter and cooked as requested. Lovely mushroom sauce on top and the fresh sautéed mushrooms were very nice. Potatoes and cauliflower were cooked well and finished off the meal. While the price of all dinners out have sky rocketed the prices here were reasonable for the quality and quantity of the meal. If you're in the area and want a nice meal that will impress your bride or date this would be the place. All aboard for the flavor express!!! Easily the best place to eat in Soldotna and probably one the best places to eat on the whole peninsula. (and certainly better than almost everything in Seward) The ambiance in here feels more Portland than Alaska. (as someone that moved here from Portland 9 years ago, I actually enjoy that but YMMV) Ceilings are tall, windows are big, furnishings are modern. The menu is a delightful mix of new-school and old-school American cuisine. You can get goat cheese balls and short ribs, but you can also get a big fatty ribeye. Beer selection and service were also well above average for Alaska, and stratospheric for the peninsula! Absolutely stop here! I think you used to need a reservation but it seems like they maybe have expanded so...if you haven't done your homework, I think being a "walk-in" is worth a shot! read more

Addie Camp was phenomenal. We started with salad and the goat cheese balls. Both were incredible. The lettuce melted in your mouth and was flavorful. The goat cheese balls were very rich and I loved the sweet/tart contrast with the honey and cheese. I got the seafood curry and it was also great. We ended our meal with strawberry basil poundcake with a balsamic reduction. I was in heaven. I loved the atmosphere from the train car seating to the lighting to the great service. What a hidden gem of a unique place! It's hidden in a way that if you're not paying attention, one may easily drive past it since it's tucked away up on a little hill just off the Sterling Hwy. Very friendly staff serving fantastic food (upscale for the area), on a unique compound built around the concept of old and retired train cars (yes you read that correctly). I want to start with the hosts, they were lovely and friendly. After that it went downhill, server just had no personality and didn't know that much about the bar drinks. We ordered many dishes and none were great. Do not get the lobster pasta. It had no flavor at all. Underwhelming as a "white table cloth" establishment. This is a MUST for brunch on Sunday. The food was absolutely amazing. My eyes were rolling back like a shark eating it's prey. We had elderflower mimosas and cranberry mimosas. I got the French toast. It was ABSOLUTELY the BEST French toast I have ever had, sorry Gravy. Gravy WAS my fav in Portland. My husband and I shared both meals. He and I agreed to order the poutin with an egg, cheese, mushrooms, potatoes and reindeer sausage. I have no words, it was UHHHHMAAAAAZING!!! Delicious!!! This was hands down my favorite restaurant. Oh and how cute to be sitting in a train! The waitress we had was spectacular! Her name was Celia, such a doll. I felt like we could be great friends. We had great conversations with her. I really love the ambiance of this restaurant. The food was delicious and locally sourced which is great. The only problem was the service did not match the upscale environment . My mom wasn't even in her seat yet and our sever Justin came over, didn't introduce himself and asked if we wanted something to drink. We were barely seated and had not even look at the menu yet. Once he took our dinner order he pointed at us with his tray and told us back our order to clarify. Brought over the dessert menu when we were still eating our dinner. Fabulous! Been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile now and last night had the opportunity on someone else's tab. Listened to a dinner lecture in a train car and my reward was being able to order off the menu. I shared a tuna poke***** and mussels casino****. Both were delicious! My main course was the wild boar pasta made with home made pasta and boar cream sauce. OMG! this was definitely a ***** dish! Loved it. Ambience was elegant, first class decor in a vintage rail car. Service was great with a smile. Easy parking and right off the Sterling Highway on a slight hill next to the highway, easy entrance and easy exit. Tres bien! I can't wait to come back! read more

If I could leave a zero star review I would.. it was my birthday dinner with 6 friends, the server was nice but we waited 2 hours for our food and the food was sub par at best!! the OWNER was in the building and was extremely rude to the group. What a great find in Soldotna. We had delicious food, excellent service, and a lovely experience. Appetizers all sounded amazing but my friend and I opted for entrees only and were satisfied. She had the pasta dish and I had ahi tuna. Well flavored and we would highly recommend. To Mary, and to the staff: Thank you for such a beautiful visit, and dinner. The food was delicious, you can tell they put love and effort in all they put on the table. The atmosphere was calm and very relaxing, it was perfect for a family get-together. The menu was a smaller one, but I liked that. So often, we find menus that are full of options it can be mind-boggling. The larger the menu, the more I'm concerned about the freshness of it all. We shared several appetizers: Ahi Sliders: They were so good, and that's coming from someone who isn't a huge fan of Ahi. Goat Cheese Balls: Alone, I wasn't as taken by the taste. However, the chutney they paired it with, made for the perfect bite. It was a hit for all at the table. The Bison Burger w/ Goat Cheese: I did remove one of the buns. I mean, even while on vacation, I must watch those carbs...right? lol Aside from the juicy and very well-prepared burger, it was the goat cheese and caramelized onions for me. The polenta fries, I wasn't a fan of. It has nothing to do with the preparation (others loved the fries), it was just a taste I'm not familiar with. Dessert: The Goat Cheese Cheesecake: The presentation, seriously, the picture speaks for itself. The flavor combinations, who thinks of these things? It was a, hit. S'mores: That was the winner for me, it was full of chocolate and marshmallow. I could eat this on every cheat day, this hit it out of the ballpark for me. Wow what a gem! We somehow had missed this place on our last stop in Soldonta and now we are considering eating there two nights in a row. First of all the train car in which you eat and the entire complex is very well executed. Nothing slap dash about any of it - could be a place in the nicest city in the lower 48 - gorgeous. Now the food - my wife had the salmon bowl and enjoyed - a bit flavor heavy for her but she gave it a thumbs up. I had the rib eye and it was incredible, as was the occupying mashed potatoes and vegetables. Also my wife started with a house salad that was excellent. Add to this perfect waitstaff and management and you have a real winner. About once every two years when traveling we might eat at the same place two nights in a row - tonight we may just do that. This is the best meal that I have had in 6 months - go there and you won't regret it. read more

We had the halibut red curry, crab pasta, the elk burger, and the house salad. All of the entrees were fantastic, extremely fresh ingredients and the chef knows how to use each and every ingredient. My wife is Thai and the red curry was very authentic in flavor but a tad of spice would even make it better. Service was friendly and a little mind reading meaning offering items when not being asked from the host and to our most friendly waitress, Veronica. In LA, this would be a 5 star too! I visited in the summer or 2020 and wanted to give Addies Camp a belated shout out. Many menu items are still the same and so good! During our visit my husband and I set outside for social distancing. The patio hosts great views and plenty of space between groups. Sometimes I hesitate to sit on patios because you can be forgotten but, not here. I ordered the Beet Hummus, Crab Pasta, and Panna Cotta. Great spot I always recommend to traveling friends and keep trying to think of reasons just to be in Soldotna to eat here. read more

Idk what was better....the food, the ambiance, or the staff. This place is a hidden gem in Kenai. I realize Alaska is not known for its food and beverage culture. However, if you look hard enough and ask around you may just find amazing places like Addie Camp. The fact that part of this restaurant is in an old train car is so adorable. I love a restaurant with a fun instagrammable gimmick. The menu was super well rounded. Something for everyone. The drink menu was awesome and plenty on tap for everyone to enjoy. Our server Linda was such a peach. We came in 30 mins before close and she was so incredibly gracious. She didn't rush us out and was polite and accommodating. We made sure to tip her well since she stayed late. We weren't the last ones in but def wanted to take care of our server. We are used to big cities so to stumble upon a restaurant that is new age and cool enough to be found in Portland or Chicago or even NYC......we were excited. Add in the super sweet wait staff and we were elated Goat cheese balls a MUST! So much flavor packed into each bite! The Ahi Tuna sliders were bomb too! Super juicy. Tons of flavor. read more

There are certain "must" restaurants when visiting certain areas. Mamas fish house in Maui and Merrimans in Hawaii come to mind. Addies camp has now become a "must" for us in Alaska. Easily in my top 5 ever, but for certain top 1 in Alaska. If you come to Alaska, you must eat here. I'm not going to bother regurgitating the other reviews - they are all spot on - but just to say , you must eat here if you are in Alaska. Worth every penny. Wow, wow, wow!! I have a new restaurant to add to my top 5 in Alaska! This restaurant reminded me a lot of Froth & Forage--the food is just as great too. Addie camp is definitely a must visit on the Kenai. I'm legit mad I've driven by it so many times, and missed opportunities to eat there. What a cool location as well as an excellent menu! The restored train car is super neat, and reading up on the history of it was fun. They also have a lot of seating outside the train car including and awesome patio for warm weather days. We dined for both brunch & dinner services--I'd say you have to try them for both! I do not regret my decision at all as this was a dining highlight of 2020 for me. The menu is innovative, and always has some great new specials to try. They have menu items that change weekly flavors as well like the hummus. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious and prepared with a lot of love and skill. The menu is also seasonal so there will be something new to try upon all of your visits. There wasn't one bad thing that we ordered. The flavors were just really amazing, and all the ingredients were so fresh. They have a hydro farm behind the restaurant where they grow some of the ingredients that they use. We immensely enjoyed a variety of appetizers on both dinner visits, and split entrees. We had the hummus, goat cheese balls, halibut tostaditas, the ahi tuna lettuce cups, crab pasta, and the Thai glazed salmon peanut noodle bowl. The rotating hummus was basil pesto hummus with local ingredients, and the second time it was a beet hummus with mango salsa. I do not think I've ever been more excited about hummus--so delicious, and packed with flavor. The special of the Thai glazed salmon peanut noodle bowl was another favorite-you just cannot beat fresh Alaskan sockeye in the summer. The flavor of the peanut sauce was so bold, and honestly beat out peanut noodles I have had at Thai restaurants. For dessert we ordered the strawberry basil shortcake, and it was the best shortcake I have ever had. Super moist with fresh whipped cream. The balsamic, basil and strawberry worked so well together. It is also worth noting that they have a kid's menu, and the food is also very good just simpler concepts for the kiddo's palette! Brunch was another fabulous experience. The elderflower grapefruit mimosa is a must order if you want to do a boozy brunch. Coffee was good, and constantly refilled. Again all the ingredients are super fresh, and the dishes are well prepared. The peach cobbler french toast, and salmon tartine were the two unique items we tried, and both were delicious. The breakfast tacos and steak & egg sandwich were also enjoyed. The tacos were packed with ingredients. Service on all occasions was great. Staff was friendly, and food came out in a timely manner. Staff also had great reccomendations! The manager, I don't remember his name (ugh) was going around checking to make sure customers were satisfied. He was super friendly, and I enjoyed talking to him about their hydro farm! Addie Camp is definitely a must dine on the Kenai, and in southcentral Alaska. I am already scheming a winter trip to the area so I can get a fix! read more

YES...just YES. We have experienced brunch and now dinner. I love this whole hill. It's just such a cool place to experience whether you go to Brew 602 or Addie Camp. We sat in the old train car for dinner and it's such a cozy and nostalgic feeling. We started with the filet bites and when I tell you I would bathe in it, I'm not kidding. The steak was tender and perfectly seasoned with the blue cheese crumbles and then the caramelized pear combined with the fresh sprouts was all a tastebud could handle. SO GOOD. I ordered the maple mustard salad and it's the same dressing that's drizzled on the savory waffles next door at Brew 602. They did not skimp on the bacon and chicken. All the fresh produce in this plate was just perfect. My husband ordered the Mushroom burger and it was so flavorful and good but a little hard to eat. Our waitress was kind but spent most of her time on only one table and frustrating some other tables including ours but that doesn't change my rating of the food. Addie Camp seems to be THE place to go in town. We made a last minute (night before) reservation and was able to get a seat in the rail car for dinner. It's super cool and cozy and fun that we were able to open our window when it got stuffy. We started with the Tuna Tots which has small tot-looking rice balls topped with a ton of fresh tuna bites. The sauce and accompaniments made it a very sharable starter, super tasty and refreshing. I decided on the Salmon Noodle Bowl - I added the Chili Crisp later as I'd forgotten when I ordered and so glad I did. I was thinking to put it on the side because my partner can't do too much heat but I picked around it for her bites. I cleaned the bowl! I loved it and writing about it would love to have that bowl in front of me again. My partner got the Crab Pasta. It was also really good and we weren't able to finish it. It got a bit redundant and boring after about half way through. It needed something to break it up a bit. Luckily, my dish did that but it was hard to overlook the abundance of crab shell and lack of punch after awhile. Our server was new and didn't know a lot about the menu which was a bit of a bummer. We got the Train Track mocktails which were a little on the sour side but we finished them. We skipped dessert as we were stuffed but will definitely keep Addie Camp on our list for when we're in the area fishing again. read more

We just returned from an Alaskan trip, and we dined at Addie Camp for Sunday brunch. During my high school years, I worked as a busboy in stationary train car located in Peoria, Illinois. When I saw it was possible to eat in a train car in Alaska, I jumped at the chance. The food, service and ambiance were top rate, and I cannot recommend it enough. We met Mary, whose vision created Addie Camp. This is a special place, and we plan on returning to it in a future Alaskan trip. read more

Definitely recommend eating at Addie Camp. I was lured in by the idea of something fresh and Veggie forward, and I can say my expectations were exceeded. This was the first place I've eaten in the Kenai/ Soldotna area that I thought was amazing food, and not jusr good for the area. We ordered the Maple Mustard Chicken Salad, the Halibut Curry and the Hummus platter and couldn't have been more pleased! Service was exceptional- warm and kind and personable. Ate here for the first time with friends. It has a lot of history and great decor. We got a brief tour with the hostess before sitting outside. The stained glass on the rail car is the original and so is the bathroom in the railcar. It has a rustic but modern feel to it and the food is delicious! They get their veggies from their hydroponic garden so my salad was super fresh! I would definitely eat here again! read more
