Tiny little park in a residential section of Glendale…read more I love how the city of Glendale has a few mini parks tucked away in their neighborhoods. It's great for families who live in apartments or condos and don't have access to a backyard for the kids to play in. This one has a small play structure, some benches, and a small grassy area. Small is the theme here. But the park was clean and tidy which is the most important thing anyway. I came here solely to see the heart street sign recently unveiled by artist Scott Froschauer. He currently is showing an outdoor exhibit called " The Word on the Street". For this exhibit, he has created street signs with different words and directives, such as Relax, Meander, Breathe, and Infinite Clearance. These signs are located in 20 different parks in Glendale. How cool is that? You can get your outdoors on and enjoy some public art at the same time:) After a particularly harrowing week, I needed a little love, so I made it a mission to find Scott's heart-shaped One Way sign, which is located in the back corner of this tiny park. It did the trick; I walked away with a smile and I got to familiarize myself with the city of Glendale in a more intimate fashion. It's more than just the Americana, people!

In fact, Fremont Park just celebrated its official 100th in October 2025. Fremont Park is one of Glendale's first parks. Purchased by the city in 1922, it was named after early settler and builder, Orron/Orrin E. Patterson, who was one of the first three permanent American families to settle in Glendale. Back then, the 10-acre parcel offered a wading pool for the kids and a plunge for the adults. Then in 1925, it was renamed to honor the Explorer & US Senator to California, John C. Fremont. *** THE PARK'S FEATURES *** Today, the place is brand new and looks like it got a great facelift. They have astroturf SOCCER fields and fresh TENNIS courts, both with camps + lessons attached for those seeking to up their game or better their swing. PICKLEBALL fans can get overly "dink elated" to discover 4 dedicated courts. There are BASKETBALL courts, covered parking for about 25 cars to shield themselves from the summer scorch, and a wonderful SPLASH PAD. Of course it wouldn't be a park without a PLAYGROUND area. What's cool about this park is that it caters to the littles and to the big kids too. The peewee's playground is fully shaded and super cute with its blue playhouse. I even saw a few teens hanging out and enjoying the longest slide I've seen yet. It's only reachable by a rope climb to the top. I admit, it was refreshing to see teens playing like kids outside in the fresh air. *** TRAIN CROSSING *** There's a Model Trains Depot just across from the Tennis Courts and covered parking spots for those who are part of the ChooChoo crew. The model railroad (established in 1947) operates a monthly Open House schedule. Hours are on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays & 1st and 4th Mondays, but I'd check their website since things can change and these mini train replicas may have their own schedule at times: www.gmrrc.org. I wanted something that have an uphill, but she didn't feel like. The park is small, has tennis/pickle ball courts, a playground with soft matting, picnic tables, and benches throughout the park for resting. I liked the outdoor exercise equipment; I tried most of them and what an exercise I got. If I live nearby, I will come here every day instead of paying for a gym membership. Public facility on site, clean, fully stocked, and bright - unlike many park restrooms that are dark and smelly. Parking is easy, with spots both on the street and inside the park.

The location is pretty empty as when I was hiking, I didn't see anyone else around when going pretty far into the trail, which made it peaceful and eerily quiet. There's only street parking available, so you have to hope there's some available nearby the trail or you have to park further down the street. Will for sure come back to hike this location again as it's a fairly easy hike.

Through the efforts of the Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy, this land was saved from developers and is protected for wildlife and hikers alike. (Thank goodness for conservancies!) The preserve is not open to the public at the present time but open gate hours are scheduled on the weekends. If you sign up for the email list for Friends of the Rosemont preserve (rosemontfriends@gmail.com), you'll get updates on when the preserve is open and special programs including informational hikes and work days to maintain the preserve.
