Our 10 y/o GSD was scratching himself in the backyard when he suddenly yelped out loud and started whining out-loud. With over 30 years of experience as a Physician Assistant (PA) I checked him out and found a hematoma in his left year. I told my wife that maybe he was stung by a wasp/hornet and we should put an ice pack against the hematoma. After about 24 hrs we called our primary vet but they didn't have any walk-in appointments for at least one week. She said that she was going to try Ada Veterinary. I reminded her of the negative/lack of ethics by by Brianna Malaki that we had with about 5 years ago. She said she didn't care as Rasta needed to be seen immediately. I drove her up but refused to enter the veterinary office. They said that Rasta broke his cartilage with caused bleeding enough to cause his left ear to drop. They gave him a "No Flap Ear Wrap" and charged her over $500.00 and said she needed to him Monday next week (No Flap Ear Wrap can be bought for $49 on Amazon). The wife brought him for another $200 and was told to bring him the following Monday (today). Had my appointment 12:45 pm went in and was led to an appointment room by Kyra. I informed her that this was Rasta third visit and being 10 y/o I didn't want a thing done to him. She said she understood and then grabbed Rasta and went to leave. I asked where she was going with him and she commented the vet wanted to him in "back". I reminded her that I didn't want any care. After about waiting 20 minutes I open the door and asked the secretary where Rasta was at. She said he was back with the veterinarian and they were discussing what needed to be down. I immediately got pissed and said I never gave my consent to have them do any treatment on him.. Before I knew it there five Vet Techs surrounding me and I repeated that I never gave them permission to do anything to Rasta that is one of that said that's how we do things!! I explained I was a PA are there are two types of consent; implied and given. I explained that he was awake and alert, so it could not be implied. I told the to get Rasta and the told me that had to figure out my bill. I grabbed Brenda Malick's business out of that card holder and said she is unethical and a crook. Through it all not was a veterinarian present to address anything with me. They apparently are spineless and let their staff handle it. My family recently had to say an unexpected goodbye to our beloved kitty cat Mona. We were very pleased with the care and compassion that we received from the staff. They tended to Mona with such loving care and helped her smoothly and peacefully transition to the spirit world. A few days ago, we received a beautiful sympathy card with loving notes from their staff. We have decided that this is where we want to take all of our furbabies. Avoid this facility like the plague. I would give a negative if I could.Totally a money grab. Dr Bests is more salesperson than vet . When our dog needed a procedure they gave us a range that was nearly 500 apart. Amazingly it came in just a few dollars below the max. Imagine that ! Our dog had some teeth removed and something went wrong during the procedure and they let her way longer than anticipated . When we called after a few days later they said" give it a few more days". Had they had us come into the office things would have certainly been different. They had us wait another week and she was in renal failure. They could have seen her at knowledge that she was failing. It's all about the money here. Our dog passed last night and we believe it's there dollars only attitude is why . read more

These guys are wonderful!! We've been taking our dogs to another vet for the past few years since we moved here and really weren't thrilled with our experiences with them. We decided to try out a new place after we were very unsatisfied with a quick check over of our dog's very large bump on his rib cage, so we went to Ada. I wasn't able to go but my husband was so impressed by their staff, they were quick to get them back and very thorough with checking over and diagnosing our dog (he got a clear bill of health!). Dr Betts is WONDERFUL!! He won't recommend anything unnecessary and always gives amazing care. He's fabulous!! Do NOT see Dr Broshar. He will ALWAYS recommend more invasive treatments and tests. I've had to work with him a few times and he immediately goes to tests and treatments that cost a ton and don't tell us anything new or even treat the problem. Seems like he's taking advantage of worried pet parents. Don't let his meek demeanor fool you, he's just trying to get your money. I still recommend Ada Vet though. Our dog had a major dental surgery at Ada Vet. The surgery went well and her mouth has healed but the dissolvable stitches haven't dissolved. We can see the end of the stitch in her mouth behind her tooth and it bothers her. She paws at her mouth and she doesn't want to eat. I called to get her in and have this taken care of and they told me I'd have to pay to have them taken out if she doesn't want to let them do it while she is awake. Why would I pay to have dissolvable stitches that haven't dissolved removed? I didnt put them there. I know if I'd called the Humane Society and they did the surgery they would have said bring her in and they'd take care of it. read more

[This is an update, October 2018.] I moved to Caldwell two years ago from Boise. Long-story-short, I couldn't seem to make it work with a Vet in Caldwell. [see updated review, herein] So, I decided to go back to Ada Veterinary Hospital in Boise, and I am glad I made that decision. I've recently seen two of the Vets here, Dr. Patrick Broshar and Dr. Tom Betts, working mainly with Dr. Betts. They are both great and that is a bit of an understatement. An urgent care situation came up for two very sick kittens, "Groucho" and "Harpo". In a bit of a panic, I called, explained the predicament. They were able to get me in late in the day to see Dr. Broshar, the first time I had met him. He examined the poor little critters and, as it turned-out, they had to be euthanized. Heartbreaking. I have yet another kitten, "Rocky", being treated here for an eye infection. Dr. Betts is in charge of that case. His advice and treatment have been perfect. I was dealing with Dr. Betts before moving away from Boise a couple of years ago and am pleased to be working with him again. I have nothing but confidence in these people, Vets and caring Staff. Probably the very best way to "bottom line" the review about Ada Veterinary Hospital, is to say that I am quite comfortable with, and trusting of the care my beloved cats get here, all three of 'em (and counting). [Mini-Update]: Within a couple of hours of writing this review, I received a wonderful sympathy card, with notes from the entire staff, over the euthanization of the two little kittens, "Groucho" and "Harpo". I cannot recommend Ada Veterinary highly enough! In November of 2017 our elderly cat began having seizures. Originally we rushed to the emergency vet and after waiting 8 long hours with almost no communication about what was going on with my sweet girl and ran several expensive tests that they didn't even bother to go over with me before they handed her back without any answers, they just told me to come back for even more expensive testing at a later time. I was extremely unhappy with my experience and terrified about losing my cat and knew I needed to get other opinions. She continued to have a few small seizures through the night, but when she was not having an episode she was totally fine. As soon as they opened I called Ada Vet to schedule an appointment on a whim because it was just down the road from us and it ended up being the best decision I could have made for her. They made room for me immediately and I was there within the hour. Dr. Betts was very thorough and visibly concerned about our cat. He also offered to read the echocardiogram results for me that the emergency vet failed to do the day before. Dr. Betts couldn't pinpoint the cause of her sudden onset of seizures, but it was most likely due to age. He was so incredibly understanding about the choice to not have an MRI done. Our cat was already very old by this point and had some other bad health problems, so even if we did have testing done and something like a tumor was found, she would almost certainly not survive any surgery. Not to mention it would be incredibly expensive and Dr. Betts completely empathized and never pressured us or made us feel like bad pet parents for not pursuing brain imaging. He just wanted to do what we could to manage the seizures and as long as she was living a happy and fulfilling life still, that was what he wanted for us. Dr. Betts set her up on a medication for managing epilepsy that she did extremely well on, where she only had an episode once every several months (opposed to every 6-12 hours) only when the dose needed to be adjusted to due her fluctuating weight. We saw him several more times due to unrelated health problems she was having as well and he always was just as kind, hard-working, and attentive to her special needs and making sure to do what was best for her. Once I voiced concerns about a UTI medication he prescribed because it said use caution with animals with seizures and he spent that night off the clock to search forums and discuss with colleagues what the best course of action was to do at that point. He really did go above and beyond for her and I can't express how appreciative my husband and I are. I truly do think that it was because of Dr. Betts and all the kind staff at Ada Vet that Cheshie was able to live another year and a half in the best health she could have at that point and I am beyond thankful for the extra time that we got to spend with her. When the office got news of her passing the whole staff signed a sympathy card to us, which was beyond thoughtful and meant so much to us during an absolutely horrible time in our lives. It truly shows how much they care about their clients, both human and animal. I will continue to bring all my future pets here and recommend the wonderful office to my friends and family! read more

Not impressed with what They called bedside manner. Took my puppy in for her booster shots and without any introductions someone just said that they were taking her to the back and they be out in a minute. After a few minutes rolled by I heard my dog start barking and was confused by to what was happening back there. After another few minutes, they emerged and I asked the tech what had happened back there. With a snarky attitude, she said that my dog barked because a bigger dog walked by. I told her that's not what I was asking about. I wanted to know what they did back there. She said we did her boosters. I informed her that I was not made aware of what was happening and was thoroughly unimpressed with how she was treating the situation. Another tech walked out and said we will be sure to give you more information next time. No apology no further explanation nothing. It's not that I wasn't OK with them taking her back for her boosters but more communication would be nice and a snarky attitude is not appreciated when I'm paying you to do a service. Lost a customer, be nice to the people that help pay your salary. read more

I always have a great experience here. Dr. Betts and the rest of the staff obviously love animals and it shows. It's scary going to the vet, for both the pet and the owner. They are kind and gentle. My senior dog Henry had to go the other day and he was more relaxed (although still anxious of course) than I've seen him at a vet before. Ada Veterinary Hospital always puts me at ease and I never feel like I'm being gouged for money. I've recommended them to many of my friends. read more

Super frustrated and looking for a new vet. We have taken our pug puppy to Ada Veterinary Hospital 3 times. Once when we got her and she had diarrhea and then to more times for her first 2 sets of shots. Every single time they have charged us an exam fee. Then the last time they said they should have offered us the shots package which would have included all the shots and the diarrhea visit but because it wasn't offered at first they won't honor it. So we lose $100... Whatever... We still figured we would take her for her last set of shots... Well just went in and they wanted to charge us ANOTHER exam fee and a walk up fee plus the shots!! read more

My dog injured her foot on a Saturday. I spent half an hour at least trying to find someone open, willing to see her, or that didnt habe a minimum 5 hour wait. I called Ada Veterinarian Hospital and again the dreaded we are booked...then she heard the crack in my voice and said let me ask our vet. Not only did they see her (no waiting), treat us kindly, but the prices were beyond reasonable (especially a Saturday). This is definitely somewhere that cares. read more

I was searching for a new vet, as I felt that my old vet was: a) never the same doc twice, b) way too expensive, and c) not keeping accurate records. I won't soon forget getting a postcard welcoming my pet and I to their practice and the comment by the owner that the "entertainment is always free." Great place and will be using their cats only hotel in the next month. Stand by for the review. **yay! The cat hotel was great! I felt very comfortable leaving my big orange and big black beast here for a week. (They were pissed at me, but I'm ok with that!) Disappointed to have to write this update but there have just been too many issues with the vets here at this point. We've been taking our dogs here for several years, had dental work done on one cat last year and another last month, and have had all five of our animals examined here. On both visits for the dental work on my cats I was told in the exam that they had an infected tooth (1, singular, tooth) and would need an extraction and cleaning. I was given a quote for the removal of 1, I repeat ONE, tooth each time. The extractions and cleanings were done by two different vets about a year apart. Both times, I went to pick up my cat after the procedure only to be informed that they had found other teeth infected and had gone ahead and extracted those as well but without so much as a phone call to me. Now I'm not an unreasonable person and had they asked the front desk to call me during the procedure to get approval to take the other infected teeth I would likely have agreed. I can understand wanting to get it all done at once and in the long run they were probably trying to save me some money by not having to pay for the anesthesia, etc. twice. But the fact of the matter is that they took it upon themselves, TWICE, to perform extra services that were not life-threatening on my animals without my approval. I can 100% guarantee that would not fly if this had been a human they were working on. After the first cat's dental work my husband and I spoke with the vet about it and he apologized for not having someone call us and essentially spending our money for us. We were assured repeatedly that that isn't their normal policy and they should have handled it differently and this would never happen again. Their justification? Well it was still within what we quoted you for the one tooth so we didn't think it would be a big deal. Oh, so someone had the time to go recalculate what the total cost would be during the procedure to make sure it stayed within the quote but they didn't have time to call for my approval? And, of course it's not a big deal to them when it's not their money paying for it. After speaking with the vet about the situation the first time we were hesitant to continue going there but the location is super convenient and the vet techs and office staff have always been wonderful. After this second time with the exact, same, scenario happening and receiving the same useless apology after the fact, we're done. The trust is completely gone because the vets do not stick to their word. As if that wasn't bad enough. We've had other issues with other doctors there as well. Including one vet who contacted me on my cell phone, after hours, to confront me about a review I left here that didn't paint him in the most favorable light. It was an honest review of how my normally sweet and overly loving dog was visibly nervous around this vet and he is the only one that has ever had my animal producing blood that had to be wiped up from an injection site for a routine vaccination. It was extremely unprofessional for him to call me and I received an apology from the office manager afterwards because they agreed that should not have happened. I think the only thing that might convince me to return to this animal hospital would be for the vet techs to become vets themselves and take over the practice. They are the only ones at this point that I would trust to work on my animals or do what they say they will, and ONLY what they say they will. Such a shame, and even worse that we are the ones that suffer by having to find a less convenient location. read more

The Staff - what an amazing group of people who are not only caring & competent caregivers to the furry kids, but are genuinely good people. I took my brand new Chocolate Lab, Master Chief Boba Fett Solid Snake to Ada Vet from the very beginning. I can't say the services provided weren't great, because they were. The front desk ladies and the nurses are also very nice and accommodating for me and my gangster of a puppy. I will say that if the main vet guy thinks you're raising your puppy wrong, he will let you know. I wasn't counting on the guilt trip about how I'm a bad dog owner because I tell my dog "No". I suppose it's his job to tell me what to do, the same way your doctor will tell you you're an over weight jabroni. My cat had some food allergy problems, I went from Vet to vet and these folks were able to identify and solve the problem and save my cat from a life of misery! I only go to these folks now, they seem to really know what they are doing and their vet seems to really care for animals. I have 5 cats and a dog and Ada vet treats them like family! They even send out birthday cards for each pet (e-cards now with technology) which may seem weird to some but I really love my pets so I appreciate a super attentive and thoughtful vet office. When I took my female dog in to get fixed the staff called a few times to check on her at home and make sure she was recovering nicely. They also give me significant discounts for bringing all my animals there and keeping them up to date on health services. I feel like my animals are getting the service that I expect at my doctors office and I love that. Amazing staff! read more

Our dog had a very serious disease and needed to be euthanized within hours of her test results. The staff was very gentle, kind and professional. They let us take all the time we needed to say goodbye to our sick girl Mindy. Then the next month our little old lady Nikki had renal failure and we also has to euthanize her too. The staff took care of the cremation and the containers used for the remains are beautifully labeled wood, sealed boxes. When we picked up each container, we were also given paw print casts. That was very special. Later we received sympathy cards signed by the whole staff. Very caring and compassionate place. I highly recommend their services. We had used them in the past to repair a botched job from another vet for our tiny chihuahua. Great veterinarians and staff. read more

If you're looking for a vet, I highly recommend Dr. Broshar. We started going to Dr. Broshar in the late 90's after he was recommended to us by our small town country vet when he retired. I'm going to try to keep this short but there is so much good to say about Dr. Broshar. When he had his veterinary hospital in Iowa he cared for four of our animals. Two of them from a very young age until they were euthanized. He also cared for several cats from my wife's work. His care and compassion for animals and their owners is second to none. I never hesitated recommending him to friends and family looking for a vet. He was very thorough giving exams and explaining any issues. When we had to leave our animals a day or two for surgery we had comfort in knowing they were in good hands and would be well cared for by him and his staff. Having been our only vet for so many years we didn't realize how reasonable his prices were. After he left Iowa our next vet charged more than double what Dr. Broshar did for the same visit. Don't let the reasonable price fool you. You'll still get top notch service. I think how well Dr. Broshar cared for our animals spoiled us. For the third time since he left Iowa we are looking for a new vet that meets our high standard of care. Looking for a new vet got me thinking about and wondering how and what Dr. Broshar was doing now. It's been two years since he left Iowa and he's still missed. I'm writing this review because looking at online reviews helped us narrow our choices before visiting the clinics. I was visiting the Boise area for the holidays when my elderly canine, who's health had been diminishing, suddenly became immobilized from paralysis. Anticipating the outcome, through a friend's referral, Ada Veterinary Hospital got us in immediately. The entire staff and Dr. Betts were as professional and compassionate as if they had been our long term provider. Their fees were more than reasonable and there was no pressure to add extra costs for supplemental tests and procedures. Not only did they provide blankets to wrap my beloved pet for final transport, but assisted in loading her in the car. I cannot express enough how KIND the good folks at Ada Veterinary Hospital are. Very friendly staff. My normal vet could not get me in soon, so I called around until I found one that I could get into. They got me in quickly to get cheat grass out of my cat's ear. Only complaint is the cost - they charged for a full office visit and they did nothing except remove the cheat grass. I was probably there for less than 15 minutes, very fast but very spendy. I helped my sister in law with the very sad decision of euthanizing her dear dog. I will say that Dr. B and staff made this difficult time so much easier. They are so kind and loving and seem to understand how hard this is.
