Today I had the unique pleasure of receiving acupuncture for the first time in my life from Tamara at Acupunktrix and I wanted to detail my experience! So first off, the website is really easy to navigate and book an appointment through. The services and their corresponding prices listed are thoroughly described and easy to understand. When you book your appointment, you're sent some pre-arrival documents, including a Covid-19 survey (this review is being written amidst the Corona Virus outbreak). They seemed long, but I got them all done during a 15 minute work break. The medical history questionnaire ends with a section that allows you to really tailor your appointment to the kind of experience you want. Even small things that later make a huge difference, such as specifying if you want to talk about your emotions, have small talk, prefer silence, want music, want natural sounds, are all given as options. When I got there, Tamara greeted me warmly, took my temperature per the NYS regulations in place, and then brought me into a really cute and warm waiting area, a space that felt reminiscent of your favorite eccentric aunt's living room. Off that was a room with instruments that lead into the actual treatment room. She invited me to sit, pulled out my documents on her tablet, and proceeded to have a conversation with me, weaving in the necessary medical questions with a friendly chat that definitely calmed my nerves. The treatment itself was gentle. Per the options I selected in the survey, she explained everything she did before she did it and even went into the history of acupuncture. All my questions were answered and I was made to feel at ease throughout the whole thing. As I entered the waiting room I felt an instant sense of calmness. Tamara introduced herself, wearing a mask, and we sat down and discussed why I was there. I injured my knee two years ago and have tried every "traditional" medicine and therapy you can think of to relieve the chronic pain and inflammation. Tamara played my choice of music and began to work her acupuncture magic! I felt relaxed as Tamara explained to me where she would be placing the next needle. She was very attentive and respectful of my needs as she worked. The table was warm and comforting, as was her presence. Before she left the room, Tamara placed a warm light on my knee and I was left to breathe deeply and relax for the first time in months. After the acupuncture session, Tamara talked to more about self-care and how I could take care of myself at home with an herbal patch. Once home I realized that my knee was pain free! I walked around the house without limping and even my own daughter noticed! As I slept last night, I was without pain. I have been seeing her for about 2 weeks, and have not had a flare since I have started seeing her. Tamara at Acupunktrix is a knowledgeable experienced thoughtful and thorough doctor, birth and death doula, acupuncturist and herbalist. I trust her as a resource for my family's health. In her care I have felt nurtured seen heard and honored. She is excellent with children and adults. Tamara engaged my child who is usually very nervous about drs visits Tamara made her feel at ease right away and gave her accupressure with a tuning fork which my daughter loved. She is a great listener and has a loving bedside manner. Tamara helped my daughter select an herbal tea mixture with herbs that would help her explaining what they were and allowing my daughter to choose them mix them herself. it was such an empowering experience for my daughter to be so involved in her own healing. I have also purchased chinese herbs aromatherapy. soaps and natural body care products which are my favorites. i wish i had lived in buffalo when i had my daughter I'd trust Tamara with the most important moments in my life. Tamara is an absolutely lovely human being and is extremely knowledgeable as a Doctor of Chinese Medicine. She has created a magical and comforting space that feels warm and inviting.
