This update is long overdue as my last review was 3 years ago. However, my husband and I are still going here once a week consistently. The staff has changed since then but Dr. Ahn, Lee, Kim, and Hahn are all amazing and have their own techniques and methods. Since my last review, I gave birth to 2 children, survived both pregnancy and post-partum symptoms. I've also had a sinus infection which caused TMJ flare-up/swelling in my jaw which they were able to use the acupuncture needles and massage to help me move my jaw again. They are amazing and all of the various acupuncture benefits never ceases to surprise me. From TMJ flare ups to stomach/digestive issues to sinus/congestion to snoring to chronic back problems, my husband and I have had it all resolved or improved through this place. Our session not only includes the acupuncture needles but also the various modalities such as fire cupping or regular cupping, heat therapy, electric acupuncture, air compression massage, regular massage or acupressure points, etc. Even the assistant staff are all in school and are physical therapists or have similar training. I've been trying new ways to improve my postpartum depression including medication, tms (Transcranial magnetic stimulation) and now acupuncture. The. Dr. seemed very knowledgeable and explained how anxiety can also affect the neck muscles as they are connected to the central nervous system and have muscle memory. My neck muscles were tense and left side shorter than right. The acupuncture and fire cupping appeared to improve the muscle elasticity. I like this doctor as he made me feel comfortable. Very strange experience. My wife called prior to visiting, and they asked for the copy of the front and back of the insurance card to verify and let her know. After the treatment what they told her was our insurance does not cover. Ok... so why didn't they let her know before the treatment? We have Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, and this place is clearly indicated as In-Network. When BCBS rep called Acupia they told they are "In-Network" but the insurance does not cover the Treatment. First of all this place is a scam shop. I called three days prior to my visit to make sure they cover my insurance. After arrival I checked in the lady behind the desk look at my paperwork and told me they no longer work with my insurance company why don't you discuss that at first when I made the appointment over the phone. Good clean atmosphere and highly knowledgeable doctors. I have given it 4 stars because I want to make sure people are aware of two things: - if your using insurance please verify with your insurance and them and cost before proceeding. You don't want any surprises I.E. deductible or out of pocket costs. Also make sure for the special treatments they place the right code not just misc. which is an automatic denial by any insurance company. - Also please confirm the treatments as you are getting in the treatment room. The cupping and other things are considered special treatments and have an extra separate charge unless they confirm with your insurance it's paid prior. For cash clients I would suggest to do the same to ensure you don't get surprised after the nice treatment with the front desk asking for an extra $60 from what you were quoted. Treatments get 5 stars Billing and processes get 3 stars = 4 stars I believe that insurance will cover there specialty treatments, I just don't think they are using the right billing codes to ensure they are getting paid correctly from the insurance, then asking for the patient to pay the difference. This place is really amazing. I've been obese since 2003 in Elementary school, and having hypertension since 2010 in high school. I've tried alotta diet methods but never had great results. Then my parents told me about this Detox program. My dad, mom, and I started the program together. The acupuncture place was really nice with friendly staffs who would kindly explain to you about the program for you to help understand. They check the body mass index for you to accurately see your body change. Well when I started, my weight was 222lbs with 160/80 blood pressure which was a serious hypertension. As I was doing this program I realized that my body started feeling better with positive vibes. On the 3rd week, my blood pressure went down to 128/83 which is the safe zone. My dad actually has six packs now LOL. And my mom looks better than ever. I finally finished my 5 weeks program and now I weigh 192lbs. So during that 5 weeks, 3 of my family lost 25lbs average. Now I can wear the clothes I used to wear back in high school. My life is so much better with happiness no joke. When you feel healthy, your body knows and you feel more happy. I've been a patient with them for about 6 month. I originally came in complaining about muscle twitching, especially in my eye lids. They were able to successfully treat this condition. In brief, Acupia Wellness in Irvine is a knowledgeable, accommodating, modernized, incredibly friendly, and effective clinic. I had been suffering from obesity for as long as I can remember, and have tried everything I possibly could (except for invasive surgery). At my peak I was around 270 lbs. @ 5'8''. After several years I was able to get it down to 242, but it took forever and was still terribly far from a healthy weight. I underwent Acupia's 5-week Detoxification program, whose primary purpose is to "reset" the body by eliminating salts, fats, toxins, etc., and acclimate the body to its most basic status. Needless to say, incredible amounts of weight loss are an obvious side-effect. As a result I lost 30 lbs. (over half of which were body fat) in a mere 5 weeks and have been able to keep it off. The doctors at Acupia Wellness are incredibly knowledgeable about their respective fields and, unlike many other doctors I've experienced, are very friendly and accommodating to your situation. They will explain to you everything they're doing and why, and never pressure you into a treatment you are uncomfortable with. During my time there I have been treated by each of the doctors at some point, and can honestly say that all of them are excellent. As another reviewer also wrote, I was very impressed by the state-of-the-art technology and machinery they use at this clinic. Everything from the measurement system to the different treatment machines they have is clearly very expensive and modernized. For Westerners with suspicions or doubts about Eastern medicine, the quality of the staff and machinery is comforting. Ultimately, though, the greatest thing I took away from Acupia Wellness is not my weight loss. I now have an acute understanding of how my body works and what I have to do to change it. I come away with the knowledge of exactly what certain foods will and won't do to my body, and understand exactly why I have had such a hard time losing weight in the past. Sweet relief! This was my first experience with acupuncture. Recent lower back sprain had me in pain for almost two weeks. I tried pain medicine and salonpas - nothing seemed to work. Until today when we met Dr. Choi! There was a little mix up with our insurance but thankfully it was all figured out (we have Anthem) and I was able to be treated. I didn't feel any needle pricks except for one and it wasn't super painful. Dr. Choi was so informative and helpful. He took his time and explained what was going on with my back. Interestingly enough, the pain wasn't coming from my lower back but the muscles on my right side. He illustrated that by showing how I was flexible on my left but not right side. A couple needle pricks later and I was able to move my right leg further than before. Fascinating! Normally by this time my back is feeling terrible but it's feeling 75% better! I'll start by saying how skeptical I was by acupuncture. Also, this is not the kind of acupuncture that you see on TV or think about where they stick 100 needles in you and leave them in for an hour with the thought that it changes energy or Qi or other hocus pocus. It's like dry needling where only a few needles are used to release the tense muscles. The only reason I even tried it was because I tried everything else including going to a chiropractor, stretching, massages, ice, medication/ibuprofen, etc. Nothing helped permanently until Acupuncture was the only last option as a treatment that I could find. Now the back story on why I even considered acupuncture, besides being desperate for relief. I had taken my dog to a vet appt about 6 years ago and overheard a big lumberjack looking man almost in tears while thanking the vet for saving his dog with acupuncture. I had a bigger dog and always wondered about possible hip issues as she got older. So as I was walking to my car, I passed by him as his dogs were getting into his truck and I asked him what he had gotten acupuncture on his dogs and he said it was for their hips. He had 2 senior Rottweilers that were 15 & 16 years old. He said they could barely walk anymore especially the older one that couldn't even get up to pee anymore - he would have to hold her up to go, he'd have to lift her onto her own bed, couch, etc. He was considering putting her down to end her pain until he found acupuncture as an option and figured he'd try it as a last resort. He said it had her walking around in just a few sessions and now they could walk and run, get into his truck, etc. He couldn't believe it. And the only reason he knew it worked is because dogs don't understand the placebo effect. Dogs don't know what acupuncture is supposed to do to somehow mentally get better because they "think" it's working. So even though I don't really believe too much in alternative medicine, etc. I remembered that interaction and figured it's worth a try. I met with Dr. Lee who is so knowledgeable and explained why and how acupuncture works. Keep in mind, I was still a little skeptical. But he said within 6 treatments, I'll be considerably better. So I went for it. I was blown away by how much better I felt by the 3rd treatment and I was almost 100% better by the 5th session for my sciatica. He also worked on other parts of my body that were tense from working out, sitting in a chair all day from an office job, etc. It relieved everything. I still go at least once a week to maintain my body and release the muscles that are tense. It's a very strange feeling - you'll feel the twitching of muscles, soreness/pain (but feels so good knowing it's making the actual pain go away), etc. You won't even know he's put a needle in any of the parts that don't need to be released. But he's amazing at finding the parts that need it. I recommend it now to everyone with any kind of pain. Anyone that's actually tried going to Dr. Led is addicted. Even recently a friend with back pain started going to an acupuncturist by his house that was a little less expensive after I recommended Dr. Lee thinking they're all the same. Well, it didn't work so I told him to just trust me and go to Dr. Lee. He was amazed, grateful and now he's pain free. Also, the entire staff is so nice. I go to Acupia Wellness Acupuncture in Irvine and am very pleased with the clinic. I have suffered from high blood sugar for years with little help from Gen. Practitioners and Endocrinologists. I was prescribed Metformin which was horrible for my stomach. I was desperate and finally decided to try alternative medicine. I have been getting acupuncture treatments for the last few weeks and see an improvement in my sugar levels. I have seen lower numbers with acupuncture than I have with a no-simple carb diet! I am going to go on a two week fasting regimen during which time I only drink herbal teas which should make my weight go down and my sugar numbers consistently low. Stabilizing my blood sugar is a process, but I am optimistic that things will work out. I have a lot of faith in Dr. Lee, the head Acupuncture expert at Acupia Wellness. He is professional, knowledgeable and very accessible. He answers all of my questions and is very personable. I also went for cupping. It was a new experience for me, but I could definitely feel the results. My circulation seemed to improve. My friend also experienced terrible shoulder and neck pain, frozen shoulder, for over a year. After a few treatments with Dr. Lee, he was perfectly fine. I signed up for 10 sessions of acupuncture and right after the first session, I was able to sleep all through the night with no problems. Dr. Lee treated not only my acid re-flux, he treated my entire body. I admit I was a bit reserved on treatments until I pulled a muscle in my right shoulder. They day prior I pulled something at the gym and my range of motion made it difficult to do much. Dr. Lee treated my shoulder and I do admit it had a pinch of pain that was instant and over. I immediately gained full range of motion and became a true believer. I also like the fact that after each treatment, he has various cupping machines that he applies. Like I said, it has been 2 years and I have not had any acid reflux issues. Now I have been suffering from sciatic nerve pain for the past two months. I was getting massages and seeing a chiropractor. Everyone said it could be from my shoes, lack of stretching at the gym, etc. The doctor prescribed pain pills and said rest. I was done and I just restarted treatment again for sciatic nerve pain with Dr. Lee. I had tingling uncomfortable strain/pain running from my right butt cheek down behind my knee. It was uncomfortable to sit/stand/run/lay down ... anything! Dr. Lee stopped the tingling on the first treatment. The relief was immediate. Dr. Lee is a miracle worker! He takes the time to explain what my muscles are doing, how my body reacts and the proper stretches I should implement. He truly cares about his patients. His staff is very professional and friendly. I love that they text you the day before to confirm appointments. I never sit more than 5 minutes in the waiting room before they usher me into a room. The entire session typically lasts around 45 minutes. If you can't make an appointment, they are very easy to reschedule with and someone will always get back to you fairly quickly. Acupuncture is really something worth trying if you're frustrated with being pushed around to various doctors and no real solution in site. It is so worth the money! read more

I've been suffering some pain on my right foot for a few years now (on/off) perhaps due to my active lifestyle:-) I was very skeptical going for accupuncture until I came to this place. My company has a very good insurance coverage that includes 60 visits to accupunture and chiropractic per year. I've gone to a few acupuncture doctors over the years and Dr. Lee is definitely the most knowledgeable. He helped me with my metabolic issues and most recently introduced me to a new anti-aging skin care treatment that made my skin glow! It is better than a face peel. No redness and no recovery time. Friendly staff, accepts insurance and best of all I can feel results! I work in front of the computer so I started feeling pain in my upper shoulder blade and back area. I decided to give this one a try since my mom's friend recommended Acupia Wellness to us. In the beginning I went twice a week then I slowly went once a week. The doctor put in needles in the appropriate areas, did cuppings and radio frequency massages (which basically relieves muscle tension im your back) and my knotted areas slowly became relieved. Now I have less pain in my shoulder/back. The doctor uses pretty high-tech, modern devices straight from Korea and you know Koreans have the best machinery for these types of treatments! I have tried physical therapy prior to this and that did not work...at all...but this def. works! This treatment gives you a headstart in relieving your muscle knots and it is your job to keep them relieved by continuous exercises and stretches. I highly recommend Acupia Wellness and they accept insurance which a lot of other acupuncturists don't do.
