But the server on staff was so clearly irritated that I came in so close to closing, I couldn't wait to get out. So I ordered a chai tea so the visit would be a total waste for either of us. Bonus: she didn't secure the lid on my to-go so when I took my first sip in my truck, I got hot chai tea all over my new jeans, just as I was headed out to meet friends. Nope. I won't be back.

When I came in at 10:30 on a Saturday, and there was plenty of seating available, mostly inside but also a few tables outside. We ordered at the counter and I got a pastry and an Americano with hazelnut syrup. The pastry they served right there and the drinks were prepared at the other end of the counter. I waited about 5 minutes for my Americano and when it came it was with a different syrup than the one I had ordered. The barista said they were out of that syrup, but I was a little annoyed that they didn't just ask me what I wanted instead - I was standing right there after all. But that is my one small complaint. The barista was nice about remaking it with the replacement syrup of my choice so it wasn't a huge deal. To eat, I got the peach danish. It was very yummy! It didn't taste exactly freshly baked so I can't give five stars but it was still nicely crisp and buttery with a good amount of filling. My friend is gluten-free and unfortunately there weren't a lot of options for her, but the raspberry square she got she said was very good. My Americano was also yummy and not too bitter. Just a note that by 10:30 the pastry case already had quite a few sold out items so that's something to keep in mind if you come later in the day for a sweet treat. In my opinion Maynard is lacking in cute cafes so I'm glad to know Boston Bean House is an option with decent food and drinks! I do want to come back to try their sandwiches too.

Hence, one of my latest discoveries: a coffee shop set up in a literal garage, next to a Safelite. This is a perfect place to host events, including live music. The space is huge. When you walk in, there is an outer lobby area filled with comfy chairs to sit and relax while sipping your coffee. Walking in, there are various areas to sit and socialize spread out into this industrial space, which still retains a certain coziness despite the size and high ceilings. You can definitely engage in the most inappropriate conversations here without being heard by other parties, which scores high marks in my book. I wish I had taken pictures, but I left my phone in the car. They have a variety of gluten-free desserts (and regular, as well) and I have never seen blueberry muffins that were more photogenic. They were MASSIVE, and loaded with tons of berries. They looked like something straight from a magazine. They also had cheesecake, red velvet cake, cupcakes, and other assorted treats. I ordered a black coffee, and one of the best cupcakes I've had in a while. It tasted like it came fresh out of the oven, and was incredibly moist. The coffee I picked was super strong. It was a medium roast, but reminded me more of a dark French roast. I'm used to drinking light roasts, though, so I think that it was just a little too strong and dark for me. I just love that someone decided to take an industrial garage and turn it into something you wouldn't expect. Such a cool concept!

A Little Bit of History Fotomat started in San Diego CA in the 1960s & was a film development company located in a shack in the middle of a Parking lot in a shopping center. Before Fotomat came along, there were no Cell phone cameras, so you took your pictures & dropped them off. It took more than a week to have your film developed. Fotomat came along & revolutionized the photography business by offering Next Day film development. Soon their business skyrocketed & there were more than 4000 Fotomats across the Nation coast to coast. Some of their commercials were very funny & can be seen on YouTube. Check them out! They even had big stars like Pam Dawber from Mork & Mindy with Robin Williams pitching their product. Their shacks had pyramid shaped gold colored roofs with blue lettering. Fotomat sold their own film & Kodak film also. Everyone in the 60s & 70s enjoyed going to Fotomat to get their pictures developed. In the 1980s mini labs revolutionized the film industry once again by offering 1 Hour lab development inside independent stores & chains like Walgreens & other Drug Stores. Soon Fotomat 1 Day Service was outdated with 1 hour service shops. Fotomat however hung on & was one of the first to introduce renting Hollywood movies. Yes before there was a Blockbuster there was a Fotomat. There would be no Netflix today without its founding father of video renting Fotomat. They also got into the transferring of home movies into video cassette market & digital media. But enter a new millennium & their competitors were doing a faster cheaper way of doing all of their services. Fotomat was sold to Konica & then to Viewpoint. They tried to hang in there by switching to an online business. In 2009 the lights finally went out on Fotomat.
