I had previously been a satisfied Action Plumbing customer, which makes this experience especially disappointing. I called Action because my AquaNot backup sump pump alarm was sounding. During my 8/13 call, I was told they could come out and replace the battery for $150. Instead, when the technicians came, they did not replace the battery. They told me the backup pump didn't work, the system was outdated, and I was presented with an approximately $3,000 replacement option. I was charged $175 and received no repair. Action's invoice states that the battery needed replacement and that the pump did not operate when they forced the float. When I called afterward, I repeatedly asked what was actually wrong with the pump. I could not get a specific diagnosis beyond "it didn't work." After questioning the ~$3,000 replacement, I was later told they could replace the system for approximately $1,900. I eventually spoke with service manager Paul Dykstra. When I explained that I had originally been quoted $150 for the battery replacement, he said Action didn't offer such a service and that battery replacement started around $550. He told me their calls are recorded, so I asked him to listen to my original call. Instead, the conversation became confrontational. Paul told me, "You seem to have a hard time keeping your numbers straight." He accused me of being rude to the technicians but could not give me an example when I asked. He then told me I was being "emotional" and actually said, "You should see a therapist." He ultimately told me I could pay approximately $1,900 for a replacement and they would credit the $175, or nothing. He ended the call with, "This conversation is over." Rather than immediately posting a negative review, I wrote Action's ownership a detailed letter with the dates and times of the recorded calls and asked them to review them. I emailed it and sent it Certified Mail. USPS confirms it was delivered and signed for on 8/26. I received no response. Here is the most important part: I then had another technician look at the system. He found the actual problem. The fuse was bad because the pump shaft had seized. He cleaned and lubricated the shaft, addressed the fuse issue, and restored the existing pump to operation in less than 1.5 hours. The battery was working. The system Action recommended replacing for approximately $3,000 was repairable. Another technician diagnosed and repaired it in under 1.5 hours. I paid Action $175, received no repair, could not get a specific diagnosis, was urged toward an expensive replacement, and was then told by their service manager that I "should see a therapist" when I questioned the situation. I gave ownership an opportunity to address this privately and received no response. After previously being a satisfied customer, I can no longer recommend Action Plumbing. read more

In April 2023 I called Action Plumbing to repair a drain problem. The telephone receptionist was very courteous; she setup an appointment quickly and efficiently. Within two days of my call, service technician Brandon came to my house to repair the drain problem. Not only did they charge a ridiculous amount to drain my water heater, ( what they call a flush) . they spent 2 hours here, and accomplished nothing. Then they leave with out starting the water heater up. ( turning back on) . So now it is one day later and I have zero hot water. Very unprofessional. I will never use them again. read more

We purchased a hot water heater from Action Plumbing, and also had them install it. The installers were very nice and seemed to have done a good job. After they left we noticed a funny smell in our utility room. They had done some welding, so we thought it was from that. The smell did not go away. After a few days I was worried about a gas leak, so we called them back. They came out and did confirm that is was a leak. (Small they said) but still a gas leak. They repaired and left. The next day I called the manager at Action just to let him know what had happened. I thought he would be very apologetic, He was very rude to me. He said he had had enough complaints for the day and actually hung up on me. I was being nice to him, but just wanted him to know what had happened. Service was okay. Both employees acted very professional and were helpful in decision making of where to locate new water lines. The plumbing repair is functional, but exposed work was less cosmetically pleasing than other plumbers I have used in the past. I was given a price over the phone for the time/materials anticipated. The plumbers matched the time/materials exactly, but told me a price that was $50 higher, and without prompting offered a discount, which just got it back to the same rate I was told over the phone. Very generous! I was a little aggravated that a team of an experienced plumber and an apprentice came to work at my house. I paid the same hourly rate for the experienced plumber as the apprentice. This includes the time the apprentice took to redo work that was deemed bad by the experienced plumber, and the time the experienced plumber was training the apprentice. I understand the importance of training and apprenticeships, but if an experienced plumber had done the entire job it would have cost me much less. For this reason I would not call back. read more

We built a new home 2 years ago Action did all the plumbing no issues. A year later we had the sewer back up to the house Action couldn't respond during the day but could come after hours so of course we said yes. Turned out it was Nipsco had cut the line, Action was paid in full by Nipsco promptly, I followed up and made sure in person. Today no water to the house at all...called 8 am they stated they can't come till Tuesday, I said you are going to leave us without water for 3 days. They said we could pay after hours fee and they would come Saturday. I than said we paid a lot of money to you for new construction and PAUL proceeded to say Mam we can never make you happy don't call us again and hung up. Thank you I now am a customer of Maglish Plumbing who contacted AM Water for us and told us if its not that they will be right out. Now that is customer service. Action Plumbing installed a water softener for us yesterday and they were fantastic! We have recently moved to Indiana from Texas and know very little about basements, etc. Not only did Ralph install the unit with professionalism, he also explained why we needed a softener and trained me on how to use it. He also patiently answered all my questions --- how does a sump pump work, what's an ejector, where is my main shut off for the sprinkler system, does this drain seem clogged, and many more!
