My daughter has been enrolled with AMA since the beginning of the year. My daughter is a social butterfly and had been experiencing problems in school due to being easily distracted. I wanted to find a sport for her that would teach her focus and discipline. We had tried a different TKD program that was too relaxed and seemed to promote students to the next belt before they seemed like they were ready. I had heard good things about AMA so decided to give them a try. It was evident during her first class that the instructors were patient but have very high expectations of their students - exactly what I was looking for. I started to see results within the first month of classes. Master Mary had some very direct discussions with my daughter about staying focused and Master Josh even assigned her some push-up for disrupting the class. I knew my daughter was getting it when her teacher mentioned she had noticed a difference in her ability to stay focused at school. My daughter is learning to stay focused on a task and that she needs to practice her forms in order to earn her stripes and move onto the next belt - something she has become very determined to accomplish. It was such a joy watching him become the Nevada State Champion, a memory he will never forget. Rather than focusing on each child that has their own needs & pace, they seem to just want you to test, test, test - money, money, money. Seemed great for the first few days, but after we finished the trial, we realized our daughter was not very happy. We ended up doing Karate instead, she loves it. I have a shy daughter and a crazy son and they both LOVE taking taekwondo here from Master Amador and Master Rigg! My son who is almost 8 behaves like a different kid in class, he listens and follows directions. My shy daughter who is almost 10 actually speaks up in class and will even yell "Yes Sir!" I cannot find the exact words to describe AMA and the wonderful people who run these fine studios! My 2 boys have been practicing the art of Taekwondo with Master Mary, Master Rigg, and Master Amador for over 5 years and they are truly a part of our family. Master Mary is the "Mom of the dojang" only expecting the best from each and every one of her students. She does a fine job structuring her training to each students personal abilities all the while providing a nurturing and caring environment. I can only speak for my boys, but they look up to Master Mary like their second mom. Kids feel when they are truly cared about, so they tend to perform to their fullest when they know they are highly appreciated and respected as little human beings. Master Mary and the crew do a great service to their self esteems. This is what they get out of learning TKD with these Masters... a love for martial arts, respect, love, discipline, friendship, and being an integral part of a team. This place does not push students through each testing... if they truly feel a student is not ready, they will speak to the parent and let them know where their child is deficient and encourage "homework" and improve until the next testing comes around. It has happened to my children a few times and I appreciate Master Mary's constructive criticism as opposed to just passing them through only to fail epically when the time comes to test for black belt. One time, my youngest son attempted to test for red belt and didn't pass because he didn't know his form. It was embarrassing because he was made accountable in front of his whole team but a true eye opener for him. There's no easy pass rates here. And they definitely don't take parents money! Even Master Rigg has taught these children, it's not the color of the belt that matters, it's what you put into the sport that matters. These are words of wisdom I want my children to live by. Kudos to AMA for teaching children what our society lacks... respect, love, discipline, friendship, and team work! read more

More like a family. You can't ask for a more dedicated studio. I have two boys enrolled here, and they love it. We go 5 days a week, and if we can help it, we won't miss a single day! The schedule of classes is very well organized, and they even have Taekwondo and kickboxing for adults. For the quality of training and care that the kids get, there isn't a better deal than here. They are extremely professional in handling any kind of question or concern, so don't be nervous or afraid to approach any of the masters or instructors. There are several masters and instructors that teach classes through out the day. Some of them are young, but very well trained both in skill and working with children. My youngest started at 3 1/2, but there are students in there who started at 3. Bring your kids in to try out a class or two and decide for yourself. read more

My family and I found AMA on yelp one year ago (April of 2015) My two sons, Liam and Landon, love the Master Riggs' (Mother & Son), they have grown so in confidence and self-discipline through their training. We were looking for a new dojang for my son who was eager to continue training in tkd. But we wanted his poomsae to improve and his sparring to advance with technique for tournaments. AMA is exceeding my expectations and my son is so happy!!!! This school is extremely dedicated, organized, and warm. Whether it's the masters/instructors, tuition, classes, sparring team, tournaments, testing or communication....they're passionate about making this the best place you can be. Masters and instructors try to get the best out of their students with good discipline and encouragement Tuition is fair. There's no initial fee. It's all straight forward. Many classes are available for any age and skill level. If you're dedicated enough to compete in tournaments, this is the place to be. They take competition seriously and my son is learning a lot. There's also an option to learn Hapkido, Gumdo (sword fighting technique) and/or kickboxing. I observed testing day last weekend. It's scheduled belt by belt and the students seemed very well prepared. My friend said she almost cried because she had never seen her son try so hard and succeed. I'm looking forward to seeing my son test in the future. Through Facebook and text messaging they make sure there's no confusion....they're constantly sending reminders of anything you need to know. If a child is not following in class they correct it..AND you do have to know your forms in order to test, what a concept.. Short version: AMA is amazing. Quit reading. Go sign up. :) Long version: Both my son and I are ninjas in training :-) and our contract was due a few months ago for renewal at the previous TKD school we attended for 2-1/2 years. Before making the decision to renew our contract with the other school, my husband and I did a li'l research checking out other dojangs. Primarily, we wanted to determine if there is a more suitable approach, higher level of instruction, challenge, and organization offered at other schools that is more beneficial to the family. We did a couple of trial classes at Action Martial Arts (AMA) and I was impressed at what AMA provides. We decided not to renew our contract w/the other school and signed up w/AMA. It has now been almost 3 months since we enrolled and I am pleased with this decision. AMA's level of organization is remarkable. Families are notified of schedules, tournaments, belt testing, events, etc. well in advance either through social media, text messages, flyers, and so on. If you're thinking this should be standard business practice, yes, I agree, but based on previous experience, I'm not used to this degree of organization. Certain days are designated for poomsae (forms), sparring, and techniques each week. The same state of the art electronic equipment (Daedo) used in many tournaments is utilized in training so competitors are well prepared. Not many dojangs seem to have this equipment available. Students are encouraged to take advantage of multiple classes not only per week but per DAY. For example, during sparring days, my son takes two back to back classes, on other days, he and I often take the family TKD class, then the Kickboxing class thereafter. The kickboxing class, by the way, is super fun and addictively (I just made up a word) challenging. AMA's Masters and instructors are professional and amicable. The level of instruction, training, and discipline is remarkable. Students are given personal attention during classes. Meaning, if your technique is off, they will take the time to show you how to do it right. There are so many dojangs out there who just push kids through the next belt even when they're not ready. This is not the case at AMA. Also, you will see all ages at this school. I'm surprised at the number of grown adults (as myself) who train there consistently. It's a welcoming, respectful, friendly, and family-oriented environment. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and the decor is warm and accommodating. See for yourself, do a trial week there. Speak with Master Rigg. She's so down to earth (as the rest of the staff), plus she's funny as heck. I think her alter ego is a comedian. Forget about her being comedic during class though as she is all business. I also have much respect for Master Amador; he is "no-joke" in training. He's got a hard exterior but I have a feeling he's a big teddy bear outside of his professional arena. I'm just saying. :-) read more

We have three wonderful and loving kids that have been taking TaekWonDo since they were about 4 and half years old. We want the best for our kids where they can learn respect, friendship and leadership so here we are and found the best school for them. Still the best Dojang I have trained in. The focus on respect and technique elevates the skill levels of the kids beyond the competition.
