After one trimester, our daughter is transformed. She started middle school at the local public school. However, it was a terrible match. The teacher played an audiobook in class, allowed yelling and screaming from unruly students, allowed students to paint their nails in class, and left our child painfully bored every day. After a massive security failure on campus, we searched for alternatives and found West Valley. Within a week she went from resisting getting up for school to being ready on time daily. She cheerfully did extra work to catch up in Pre-Algebra and has gone from hating math to loving it and feeling like she's always learning something new. She immediately made a posse of friends and tells me daily about what they did at school today. If you have never had your child thank you daily for "spending money so that I can have an actually good school," I highly recommend it. This change has been night and day. read more

UPDATED review. (GO TO NEAR THE END IF YOU PLAN ON SIGNING YOUR KID UP). This school has changed man. If you're a parent reading this, take this review into consideration since I'm a former student who graduated last year in summer 2026, so this is the most modern and up to date review as of September 2026. Starting off with the "good" (skip this if you're a parent since you've probably heard this), the single handed reason this review isn't a one star is because of the teachers. They kept me sane, even if I wasn't the best to them, which I appreciate greatly. Especially Mr. A, Ms. Elston, Ms. Monika, Coach Juan, Ms. Jaqueline, Maestra Naranjo (who left sadly), Mr Aranas (who was unfortunately laid off), and even more of the staff that I don't have enough time to name. The staff was amazing and good people, and so were the students. I also made a lot of good memories there because of them, especially on the field trips. That being said however, NOW we get to the actual part. Starting off, this school is extremely small. Too small, you could say. My high school freshman population is more than the people in this school. This is also the reason why the tuition to funding ratio is so bad. This school barely gets any of the action day funding, which has let to teachers being laid off, lack of cleanliness, and lack of equipment. The bathrooms most of the time look like a crime scene, there's barely any equipment, and the field is small and FILLED with squirrel holes (and rarely found spirit bottles and dog droppings). Also because of the size and lack of funding of Action Day Middle School, they got rid of their library and turned it into a "media center" (a big empty building with a bunch of desks around, a lone green screen, and like 2 tvs for some reason). Much like the library incident, a lot of the school has been rebuilt to look more "modern" which takes the life out of it. Finally, my biggest complaint, AFTERSCHOOL. If you do decide to put my review to the side and sign you kid up for the school, just note that THE AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM IS NOT WORTH IT. It looks fun right?? WRONG. ALL of the pictures they show you on their ads and magazines of it are old photos from the OLD SUMMER PROGRAM. I've even confirmed it seeing that I'm in a few. All they do during afterschool is they sit you in a randomly chosen classroom for a grand 2 and a half hours and nothing happens. They want you to do homework, and if you're finished with it and/or you don't have any homework, there is absolutely nothing to do. I had to rely on a single friend or two to keep me company for the grueling hours there. Maybe every once in a while you can go out on the field to do absolutely nothing too, but that's not common either. Overall, I personally wouldn't sign your kid up for this school. For the tuition, there are so many better schools, specifically the Stratford near there, that you could choose. If you're staff or a teacher or anyone else who recognizes my name, yes this is mooman. I'm sorry I had to write this, y'all are amazing people, but I'm telling the hard truth. Also shoutout Mr. A, Coach Juan, Ms. Elston and Ms. Monika for completely changing my academic life. Bye bye read more

My kid loves going to Action Day and has wonderful things to say about the quality of instruction and the level of engagement from every single teacher. What I also love about ADMS vs. other private schools is that the parent community is down to earth, and I don't hear about the other kids having access to expensive or unnecessary privileges. I love the fact that my kid is surrounded by other regular kids - something that's really hard to find in the Bay Area. read more

This school features a small, caring community with fun activities, dedicated staff, and well-rounded instruction. My child is lucky enough to have Mrs. Kim, who models dedication, kindness, and excellence every single day for her math students. My family is thankful for this middle school experience and the ADMS staff. read more

My daughter started at ADMS in 5th grade after spending TK-4 in the public school system. The larger class sizes at the public school in 4th grade were overwhelming for her. ADMS has been a great fit for her. From small class sizes, to an even focus on all academic areas, she is thriving. She is a more confident student and learning so much. We love that she gets Spanish, computer science, and performing arts; things she was not getting and would not get in our public school. The school has a nice selection of elective choices. The staff here are friendly, attentive, carand prompt. The array of extra curricular options is nice as well. read more

My daughter is LOVING it here!! The curriculum and teachers have really proven to be superb and absolutely dedicated to each student. I was worried about her attending here from public school and whether she'd be up to par educationally. However the Teachers have been nothing but patient with her and are working rigorously to bring her up to standards. Her confidence levels have risen and she is so happy to come every day! Thank you Action Day Middle School!! read more

Our son graduated from Action Day elementary school and now enjoys attending summer camp at the West Valley Middle School. Here to treat children with care and respect. Varied and eventful days at the camp leave only positive impressions. Special thanks to the reception staff. Melinda, Bianca and Jacqueline, your communication skills, attention and willingness to meet are beyond any praise! read more

We read the one star review of this school. I wanted to share our experience. Our son graduated from wvms 2 years ago and our daughter is a current 8th grader. We absolutely LOVE this school. From the great teachers and academics to the most caring administrators, Darci and Mr C, social emotional support, to the most amazing families and kids. Our kids were always happy there and every concern of ours was addressed seriously. Obviously not every teacher is perfect and not every student is perfect but for us this is as good as it gets. We are choosing to write this review for people who are considering to send their kids to this school, this is a safe, nurturing and loving environment. Our kids did not attend action day elementary, they attended a different private school so we do have a basis for comparison. We highly recommend West Vally Middle School! read more

From a student (so this is pretty long): I went to infant care through elementary school with Action Day Schools which have all been more than great, but the middle school is definitely questionable. I transferred to West Valley (they changed the name to Action Day after I left) from a public middle school in 8th grade for the 2023-2024 school year. Pros: 1. They offer higher levels of math than just the regular middle school pre-algebra, I took geometry. 2. Of the sports offered, there are no cuts, making it really easy to actually play the sport you want. 3. Most of the teachers genuinely want to be teaching which makes such a huge difference. Taking to my teachers always made me feel cared for. (Shout of to Maestra Lara, you were the best Spanish teacher I've had and I enjoyed my year with you as my teacher) 4. The community there is really close and everybody knows everybody, despite their grade. 5. All my teachers allowed anyone extra time on a test if they did not finish it. 6. I took an elective taught by Mr Aranas for applying to private high schools which helped me write my application essays, and he greatly supported me. All the people that applied in my grade got accepted into at least one private high school so I would say that he helped us all. Cons: 1. Only sports are Volleyball, Basketball, Flag Football, and small Cross Country team. 2. The staff have favorites, which would be a problem except that they treat their favorites differently because of it. 3. Every year from 5th to 8th grade, there would be new teachers because the old ones were fired or moved schools. 4. PE is really only running a mile once a month, then a free period to play outside for the rest of month, which isn't bad but is taken advantage of so many people are not exercising. 5. Punishments are definitely not handled fairly. 6. As a person who shuts down when people yell at me, the staff and teachers yell at the students kind of a lot, not like when giving instructions for a group to hear. 7. From my experience, most of the students there were homophobic/conservative and quick to separate themselves with others that were 'different'. read more

My son started at West Valley in the middle of the pandemic as a 5th grader in Fall of 2020, which was tough for us as parents. With the uncertainty of the pandemic and ever-changing protocols and policies, the teachers and staff adapted and showed resilience through it all, setting an amazing example for the kiddos. They understood the hesitancy we faced, yet they were still flexible and respectful of mixed decisions we (and other parents) had. My son comes home on most days talking about the things he has learned and also raves about the fun he has. He has built positive relationships with friends and teachers. He absolutely loves it here and we can't imagine having him at another school. So grateful for the teachers and office staff at WVMS for making middle school a positive experience for my son. Highly highly recommend looking into and enrolling your child(ren) at West Valley. They also have an elementary school and infant centers/preschools for younger siblings. My younger son attends one of their preschools nearby and they, too, are amazing! THANK YOU WVMS/ADPP FOR ALL YOU DO! read more

Between our son and daughter, our kids have been a part of the Action Day Primary Plus family of schools for almost 12 years (since our son was 10 months old - he is now 13 years old). Both kids now attend West Valley Middle School as part of the ADPP program, our son in 7th grade and daughter in 5th. With the wonderful work of his teachers, and the amazing staff and administrators of WVMS, our goofball son has continued his middle school education in a positive, creative, and forward-thinking environment. From his STEM-based project completed across all disciplines, to his financial literacy and speech/debate electives, our son has been handed the gift of an all-around education at WVMS. The teachers and staff are rock stars and have never complained or passed their challenges of a pandemic education onto the kids. Instead, they have adapted and modified and worked to make sure that every child walks out of their school a success. For our daughter, who is more serious and quieter, moving to a new school where 5th graders are on the same campus as the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders has been such a wonderful experience, allowing her to grow both emotionally and academically. She benefits from changing classes and teachers each period as she moves to a new subject, which is not a traditional 5th grade experience. Reading has always been a challenge for our daughter, and when she was asked to read out loud by her history teacher, Mrs. Sanford, what was an intimidating experience made more challenging when a classmate teased her, turned into a huge growth in her belief in herself when Mrs. Sanford defended our daughter and allowed her to read at her own pace. Now she tells us she loves reading out loud in class, which we never thought we'd hear. Like our son, in addition to the academic excellence of WVMS, our daughter has thrived in her electives as well. She has found a new passion for sewing as part of her stitch lab elective, which she would never have been exposed to outside of school. Looking back over the past two and half years of pandemic learning, we can see how unbelievably lucky we are to be a part of the ADPP schools during these unprecedented times. We have been an ADPP family for 12 years now and are even more grateful today for each day our kids get to attend their schools. read more

Darci is the most incompetent school administrator I have ever encountered. She is too simple-minded to know how to run a school well and it shows. At a very basic level, she doesn't understand nuance, lacks empathy, and has inconsistent enforcement of school policies. read more

We recently moved here from Florida and we're looking for a good aftercare option for our son. By chance we found out west valley was having an open house and we're intrigued. The day we went we fell in absolute love. The classrooms are small and cozy, the school is well sized to be large enough to be diverse and small enough to have personal attention where everyone knows you by name, but most of all we fell IN LOVE with the teachers and office staff. I don't think we've found such a group of lovely, kind and motivated people all in one place. We enrolled him that SAME day. He's now been in 5th grade there for about half the year and I've never heard him complain about school. In fact, he often speaks well of it, and has school pride! We're really seeing a dramatic difference in our sons attitude in general and in his academic achievement, and you'll often find us saying 'thank goodness we found WMVS'. read more

My son is in his last year at West Valley Middle School. He was previously in a different Primary Plus school. I am generally pretty happy. The prices are a bit high but it is nice to see a non religious private school read more

Things to look for in a school: small class sizes, dedicated teachers who inspire and make learning fun, students who are supportive of one another. We have found all these things at West Valley Middle School for our child, who started at this school in 6th grade and has grown to be a responsible young man finishing 8th grade this year. There is a strong sense of community between the school staff, students, and parents. Everyone is always greeted warmly when walking onto campus! The teachers understand that there are many ways to teach students: some children are visual learners while others are audio and still others tactile. And they give students opportunities to express what they have learned in different ways from building a 3D structure to making a drawing. Children need a safe environment to learn and that includes not being afraid to make mistakes... And learn from those mistakes. The teachers' goal is that their students truly understand the concepts that are being taught and not just memorize facts for a test. When my child brings up a concept he learned from school, applying it outside of the classroom, I am reassured to know he is an engaged learner and is in the right school for him! We highly recommend West Valley Middle School and encourage prospective students and families to visit the school and ask questions! read more

This year is our first year at West Valley Middle School. My daughter was at our neighborhood public elementary school and when she was getting ready to graduate and move to middle school we became very concerned. We were nervous not only about the large class sizes but also with the kind of environment she would be in all day. We enrolled her at WVMS for 6th grade and to say we have been thrilled would be an understatement. She loves the school and has made friends quickly. The environment is fantastic as well as the staff. The teachers know her and show a true investment in her education. My daughter feels comfortable and academically she is doing better than she ever has. As parents we feel safe sending her off to school each day and know that she is getting an excellent education as well as a more enriching social and extra curricular environment. read more

Mr. Schoppet and Mr. Mikels are wonderful. Beyond that, things get sketchy. Quite frankly, I would not recommend this school. There is way too much turnover in the administration office. The owner is a Qtip that only cares about money. If the leadership is not consistent, fails to listen, and is not objective, then that is a deal breaker for me. I tried to get out of the school sooner, but our child was too attached to their social connections and was making fair grades. Now that we are back in public school, I feel liberated. As the student mentioned in the prior post, there is way too much DRAMA. I agree 100 percent. The public school system is about learning and less homework. The stress level is way down and our student is doing a lot better now. read more

I have had both my girls at WVMS- my oldest had been with ADPP from 3 yrs old through 8th grade and my youngest is now in 6th grade and has been with ADPP since she was a baby. I love the small class size and individual attention at West Valley. The parent teacher communication is excellent and I don't think you would find that at a public school. Ms. Merlo is a great principal- she truly cares about the kids and is always there for them and the parents too:) She has made a lot of positive changes in the school and has a built a strong sense of unity among the students. Miss Jaquet has been there for years and is an awesome history teacher. She make history fun for the kids and she is very enthusiastic about her job as a teacher. And with the drama that comes with girls she is one of those teachers that girls feel comfortable coming too and talking to about their drama. Ms Tate has been there for years as well and she makes math fun. I love when they prep for a test by playing a game in class. The office sends out emails just about daily regarding upcoming events and reminders. They are very good about keeping the parents informed and encourage parent participation. They have family events such as Bingo Nights and BBQ's. The school is also open during non-academic days which is nice for the working parents. During the non-academic days they plan field trips or special activities. During the summer months there are always field trips or outings such as swimming, movies, Sky High, or a park for hiking. I have been very happy with the school and truly feel lucky that my children have received the education that they have at WVMS. I feel WVMS is the best school for my children. So many children slip between the cracks at public schools not that the teachers don't care but they just don't have the resources or support to help all 30 or 40 children in their classes. read more
