The recent Cabrini Carnival was a huge success and such a fun event--it reminded us that this school isn't just great for the kids, but for the whole family. In addition, the school does not offer any after-school activities or programs. Kids play and eat at the parking lot. Parents have been reminding them that Jesus loves EVERYONE for several years, but the administrators will not listen. They actively teach that being gay or trans is wrong, making some students feel that their very existence is wrong. How can kids learn, when they are made to feel that way? You might think, "well, I can just teach my children that that being gay is OK. That's what our family believes." Well, it is not that easy. Kids walk away with a bias against LGBTQ+ people. Some boys there call some kids "tranny" and "gay" as an insult, followed by "I'm going to kick your ass after school." Sadly, the high school principal says that his school takes the same stance as the middle school. I have been thinking about how to phrase this post for a long time, because the school's stance hurts us deeply, as people who believe in God. If you switch to a public school, you will likely be behind in math and have to play catch up. So, you can get excellent grades and meet some good friends, but you will likely fall behind in math, and feel miserable about school. You have to be a very specific type of person with a narrow view to feel accepted and happy at Valley. During these very formative middle school years, is this what you want your child to walk away with?

None of the teachers can even give a course summary of topics covered prior to the starting semester and act as if the curriculum is a national secret. Schoolwork is never sent home so you cannot even see what your child is learning, assist or even get a tutor because the teachers keep all work internal. It appears that the majority of work is now computer generated so the teacher can sit on their asses all day long and pump out AI generated assessments with out actually doing anything. The principals are equally derelict and will make every excuse under the sun to avoid making any real changes. If your child has to attend this school and you are concerned about their education, or college... run, don't walk to the exit. Good teacher are worth their weight in gold, unfortunately Moreland Middle School educators are worth their weight in crap. Both of my children have suffered from this pathetic excuse for education.

After looking around and going around every school for an inspection, they did a good job of keeping their curriculum up to date. So much better than the antiquated stuff I had to see when I was a student here. For teachers that work here, they are highly appreciated especially during their retirement year. We were lucky that for the first 3 years of our daughters life, we could rely on grandparents for complete childcare. When going to work, our minds were at ease knowing she had excellent care and attention at home. The downside was that at 3 years old, our daughter had not had much opportunity to socialize with other children or stay with an adult other than her grandparents or parents. We were of course, concerned that the transition to child care or school might be disastrous. I cannot be more satisfied with our decision to enroll our daughter at the Challenger School, Shawnee campus. We began with the summer school option, enrolling her in a half day program, 5 days a week when she was 3 years and a few months old. This was the perfect transition for a child who had no experience staying with other adults outside of family. Her cognitive, social, and emotional progress was visible immediately. That Fall, we enrolled her in a full day program in the 3 year old class. A year later, and we are still so happy with our experience. Our daughter will be enrolled in the 4 year old program for the 17-18 school year. While the curriculum and academic expectations are indeed rigorous, the staff is so incredibly loving, caring, and nurturing. The instruction is given in a way that engages the students through music and art. The children genuinely have fun while they learn and appreciate the structure and routine. We are always impressed with the work our daughter brings home. She is only 4 and can print her name, blend letters to phonetically read and write 3-4 letter words, add and subtract numbers, and so much more. Her experience is not unique as most if not all the students in her class can do the same. On top of this, every staff member from the administration, security guards, secretarial staff and teachers are excellent. I feel as though I am leaving my child with family. This is an incredibly important feature to me as I need to feel as though I am leaving my daughter in loving and capable hands when I drop her off to go to work. We have bonded with a number of parents from her class and get together for the kids birthday parties and other social events. I cannot imagine a better place for our child. The turnover among teachers and headmasters are high at this campus. Don't know if it's the same for other campuses. It's upsetting when you're getting new teachers who aren't experienced in teaching. Honestly Challenger also preps you to be concerned when transferring schools because Shawnee is so small it will be easy to get lost in other campuses and like I hate this school. But they give you gold for completing PreK to eighth grade so I like that

Our daughter started her school journey in the TK class last year at CCS and each day started with so many smiles during the morning flag salute and daily prayer. It's a wonderful way to be together with the rest of the school and teachers and also parents! They have a holistic faith-based education focusing on values and principles that children need growing up in today's environment. My best part as a parent was during pick up and drop off where every teacher greets the kids and parents with a smile :) The warmth and love shown by the teachers every single day makes this school an excellent choice for children. Also, they have a very organized car-line for pick up and drop off. All teachers are hands-on during the pick up and drop off. Annual performances are beautifully organized and the kids love it! All in all, this school is perfect for those who value the little things in life and are looking for a place where kids feel loved and valued.
