Sure the whole district has issues. They tend to spend money on dumb stuff like fences (which really won't stop a shooter) or large solar panels in the parking lots that are covered in a thick layer of dust. The district management is just that way. (i.e. an overbearing bureaucracy that is out of touch) Despite upper management there are some good teachers at Westmont who get the job done. The 3 Rs are solid. Civics seems good. (My kids complained about the amount of home work so a good prep for college) I have heard that theater is very good but none of my boys was interested. My kids did marching band and they both love(d) it. So if you got a good kid wants to go to college this is a great place. Much cheaper than paying for private school. Not as crazy as the Cupertino schools.

We are so far very happy with our choice! One of the standout experiences was the comprehensive planning session with her counselor, Mr. Cheng, back in 8th grade. They mapped out a four-year plan for academics and extracurriculars tailored to her interests, which gave us a clear roadmap and a lot of confidence. The academic programs are rigorous, as expected, but what we've been most impressed by is the supportive environment. Our daughter feels challenged but not overwhelmed. She joined the cross-country team and, as a freshman, was able to represent the school in the HS league. The athletic programs are in a growth phase, which we see as a huge plus. It gives students a real opportunity to make an impact, be part of a close-knit team, and help shape the program's future. Beyond sports, the competitive clubs are a major strength. The robotics club, in particular, has fantastic mentors and provides an incredible amount of hands-on experience for the students. It's great to see her so engaged and learning so much. We highly recommend Stratford Prep!

But he was not prepared that while working like he has never worked before, he would enjoy himself so much in the process. Both, he and I were touched, when more than one of his teachers sendt him encouraging emails, noticing that he worked hard while trying to adjust to the new school and find his own rhythm and method. His Chemistry, Chinese, English, and History teachers were cheering him on, knowing he wanted to take Honors classes next year and were always available for extra help. I have read reviews of Harker, where parents (or their friends) complained about the quality of teachers. In our first year at Harker, I only saw teachers who want their kids to excel, who are experts in their areas, who know how to motivate kids, and help them realize their full potential. When he started at Harker, my son joined DECA club and fell in love with all things marketing and business because of the two teachers and DECA team. He traveled and competed within a few months of joining DECA. He enjoyed his time with the students and made lots of friends. He was happy that he could talk finally with kids about politics, history, as well as other teenage topics. Harker Dance and Theater programs are very impressive. The new theater is beautiful and their boy hip hop dance team is really top notch. I love it that the school with such strong academic emphasis is developing the whole child, offering arts, sports, and really wide variety of activities. Choosing what to spend time on is hard. But it is a good problem to have. I have not heard any complaints from him about unhealthy competition or lack of friends at school. Based on our experience so far, Harker created an environment where kids who love learning get to do just that, learn, and enjoy themselves in the process.

The EDS band, orchestra, and jazz band all participated and each went home with a trophy. Symphonic Band placed first in the category with a rating of "excellent". On top of that, the number of kids here on antidepressants is way more than I should ever know. You wanna know why this is. It's because of the toxic environment. Kids here are mean and entitled. The staff here isn't all that. And the true reason why all these kids are like that is that they compare themselves to one another. Envy and jealousy are a MAJOR trait these kids have. It's just terrible. On top of that, the athletic department isn't great either. Their athletic director is rude and tends to favor all the boys' teams. Completely disregarding other teams' needs. Lynbrook High School isn't the best choice for you if you truly want the best for your child.

We've been happy with the way they've handled issues, and clearly customer service is an important part of their philosophy. After OOS, kids attend highly selective high schools, and doing great at rigorous classes; which is again a great compliment to OOS teachers for good preparation. OOS does a great job at helping their 8th grade students with the high school admission process. The school community is wonderful, great families, many of which became our close friends. The classes are small, allowing each student to grow. There are always lots of opportunities for parents to be actively involved in school life, but it is not mandatory if your busy life does not allow you to do it. Highly recommended this school!
