Tucked away at the rear of the southern-most of Wildwood's Morey's Piers, East Coast Helicopter…read moreoffers rides and mini-tours of The Wildwoods and it's 5 mile island. The price in 2014 is $50 per person or $130 for a party of 3 (the helicopter is small and only holds 3 passengers and the pilot). The ride is 5-7 minutes long (depending on winds) and covers from the southern tip of the city of Wildwood all the way to Stone Harbor (it doesn't spend any time looking over Wildwood Crest). The staff was friendly and helpful, and eager to ensure a safe and happy flight. Cameras are welcome - rather encouraged! - allowing you to share your ride with the world. The pilot we had was professional and made the ride smooth as butter (no jolt at landing to bother my sensitive back). I encourage you to go during sunset. There is nothing like seeing the fiery clouds of a Wildwood twilight from the air! The only way they could improve would be with some guidance from the pilot (or a recorded tour guide) as to what you were looking at. Everyone wears ear protection, but without any method of transmitting voice between you. So, you're dependent on your own knowledge of the island to be sure what you're looking at the whole time. (If you're new, you may want to call up a quick map before you go up to familiarize yourself with the geography.)

In Niagara falls I went into a helicopter for $110 a person for 8 minutes so that just tells you how cheap it really is. The view was awesome, pilot/staff very nice.

The Cape May National Wildlife Refuge is a pleasant respite from the commercialism of Jersey Shore holidays -- its' boardwalk attractions, fast food and fast living. It is well marked and you can bring your binocs along to spot wildlife and unique plants and flora found nowhere else. Better still -- bike in and hop scotch around between dunes and other natural formations -- but avoid crossing into the restricted areas that are clearly marked by Area 51 type warning signs -- lest you want automatic weapon toting humans rousting you. We walked the trails in sand, alongside more poison ivy in one 2 square mile stretch than I have probably seen in my entire life. Bring bug spray, a fishing pole to cast off the jetty -- and maybe even long pants and an epipen if you are especially sensitive to insect stings and poisonous plants. Free bird watching walks are regularly available and -- thankfully -- it is a relatively unpopulated attraction so it is soulful in its solitude.

Access from the beach is closed off by ropes and volunteers monitor those trying to walk the refuge from April thru September 31st. Protected area for migrating and nesting birds. There is a great trails to see the wildlife refuge. It runs parallel to the beach. Guided tours are available. We saw some great birds this summer landing on the beach! My first spotting of an American Oyster Cracker. I only wish I was able to get a picture, happened so fast. Don't forget your binoculars! The butterfly migration in October is really something to see, nature at its best. We have spotted white skunks, and have seen one coyote.

Our Captain and first mate greeted us on the dock, and ushered us onto the ship to begin our adventure, complete with our own pirate names. We were entertained by the crew, as well as our group were included in fighting off the ship "Pieces of Eight", yelling " Ahoy scallywags" as other boats went by, and locating the missing treasure. From age 6 to 84, we all had a wonderful time!

Times are flexible and boats are never overcrowded. When you arrive you are greeted by friendly pirate/sailors and you can have a face painting design on your face. Once we board the children are included in a good storyline which basically has to do with treasure and X marking the spot. The boat is followed by bad pirates and their water cannons on the side of the boat are used by the kids to wet the speedboat next to us. They feel included and enjoy the entire experience. There is a new store they fixed up in the building where you can buy drinks and such. Make sure you dress the kids up in their pirate costume if they have one as it adds to the fun. I think parking is included? I'm not sure as we walked over. I'll definitely be back!

When you haven't had any days off in months though and your daily routine is getting to you and physically (mentally and emotionally not applicable here because there is alcohol for that), the idea of driving down to Wildwood with the possibility of swinging by AC, to be on a boat for 2-3 hours is pretty relaxing - dolphins or no dolphins. Getting a Groupon deal on this helped too, although these guys are not expensive to begin with - for two people, it's $35 on Groupon/$76 without. Although there were no whales, we actually did get to see a family of dolphins. Had we not gotten to see them, the tour itself would have been sufficient as well, as we got a pretty detailed tour of Cape May, its surroundings, and some interesting facts about the Jersey wetlands. Like I said - this may sound dull, but when you are on a boat away from work & worries - life is good. They have 3 cruises per day - 10:30, 1:30, and one in the evening. The afternoon cruise is a bit longer and features free hot dogs !!!!!!! OMGFJSDFLKJ1111!!!! With free afternoon hot dogs, a friendly crew, and an excuse to go down to AC - what more do you need?
