Mike and Wanda O'Niel possess a great attitude about their business and how seriously they take whatever their guests want or inquire from them. Both are excellent conversationalists, with strong knowledge of the leisure industry and the desire to make travellers comfortable and happy. The house is magnificent, with every room designed to fit the historical accuracy of its build, while still providing all the modern amenities one comes to expect. The meals provided were unique and an eicurian delight. They both know every restaurant and its address to recommend for dinner. Their house is just three (long) blocks from the Atlantic Ocean, a perfect distance - just close enough to walk, but far enough not to hear the noise.. Every evening at 17:00, they host the "cookie hour" with unusual, again, unique cookies and light drinks. Even the weather was great; but I don't think they'd have accepted rain if at all possible! My husband and I had an incredible time. Never have we had such a boundlessly beautiful three days and two nights in a lovely room, with a jacuzzi, a huge bathroom, great property and such dedicated hosts! They also provide a Tesla and another EV electricity provision for energising one's vehicle! I happily and highly recommend the Candlelight Inn for anyone visiting southern New Jersey's beach area.

Chilled bottled water and soft drinks were supplied in a hallway alcove. Most of our activities were centered in Cape May, but it is an easy drive from the inn. The Candlelight Inn is not a suitable place for families with young children, but they allow dogs in lower level rooms. We can confidently recommend this place to other travelers, and would be happy to stay there again ourselves.

The rooms were dirty(like smudge stains on the mirrors like as if wiped from a dirty rag, stains on the floors and ceilings, a qtip from the previous tenants still on the floor in the bathroom), the fridge wasnt working and the top shelf in the fridge was cracked. The pull out sofa had no mattress in it and when we asked for one we got one right away and later realized that it came from outside where they have a bunch of these mattresses stacked up. We had to go to walmart to get fitted sheets, blankets and pillows cause we were not going to use anything they had down... The cable went out and never came back on even tho they said comcast was coming to fix it, so we bought a really cheap dvd player and dvds and watched them. There are also a lot of issues that included cops being called to break up a fight and people in the room across from us getting so drunk and high they kept us up almost all night, although they did quiet down after i called and the manager told them they would be kicked out if he got another call.. It quieted down but then you had people yelling from the streets and the hotel behind us. It was just non stop b.s..... As nice as the price looks, you most definitely get what you pay for. The room was a decent size too with two bedrooms, a dining table that seated six and a pull out sofa. They are located in the block with the beach so it was a short walk to the beach. And they have TWO heated pools! Staff was friendly and accommodating. Any other guests we crossed paths with were friendly too! It used to be five stars but if I could give them ZERO stars I would I was taught by my mother when I was a child that if you really want to get your point across with a business, you do not make a phone call or send an email, or even write a review about them on their webpage, you send a well written letter because it hits harder and it shows seriousness about the issues at hand. We have been back from our annual summer vacation at The Biscayne for a few weeks now and I have been thinking about how I would write this or if it is even worth my time writing this. All this time I kept hearing my late mothers voice in my ear telling me I must do it. Me and my fiancée Tina have been coming to The Biscayne now for the past 11 years. Before that she would come with her family every year well over 20 plus years. Over those years they had became very close with the ownership there. The problems started when we checked in. We had 2 rooms reserved. When we arrived only one of the 2 rooms were ready. We got checked in and we were told that we would be called when the second room was ready. So, we unpacked the car and put everything into the available room. This was at approximately 1pm. We then decided to go to lunch. We got back to the Biscayne at approximately 3pm and still no phone call. Tina's sister arrived with her family at approximately 330pm and they got their room. At 4pm myself and Tina walked down to the office and inquired about the second room. Pretty much to make a long story short they forgot to call us and made up some excuse. Strike 1, We were given the keys to the room and proceeded up to the room. As we walked it the room was nice. We immediately noticed there was no air conditioner in the bedroom and it was very uncomfortable. The only air conditioner was located between the bathroom and the kitchenette. Me and Tina both looked at each other and said "this is not going to work" We both went back down to the office and addressed the issue. We both got looked at as if they had no comprehension of what we were talking about. Tina explained that she is in menopause and she could not sleep in a room with no air conditioning and if we could possibly have our room changed. I guess that was not an option. We were then offered a fan for the room as if that would really help when the temps were over 90 the whole time we were there. Tina then stated to the staff at the desk if they could call Patrick to see if he could try to resolve the problem because if not we would just go home then she began crying. Patrick arrived and Tina explained the problem this is now after 5pm we went back up to the room and Tina showed him the issue and stated some ways that could fix the issue. The response she got from Patrick was "well when you booked I told you this and that" Tina's reply was "you didn't tell me there was no air conditioner in the room" Patrick now visibly getting annoyed relies back to us "it's almost 6pm what do you want me to do now" Strike 2. The answer that should have been given was "Tina, John I'm on it" Ultimately Patrick got a portable air conditioner and had the maintenance person install it. We both thanked him and told him we were sorry that he had to come in and handle this for us. He was very understandable so for that we thank him so much. Now Strike 3 occurred on the afternoon of July 30th. Myself, Tina, her daughter, her niece and her niece's boyfriend were all by the pool along with numerous other guests. Because there were no umbrellas and it was approximately 95 degrees out I grabbed one of the potted plants and stuck our beach umbrella in it. Many staff members and guests noted that it was a great idea since there are not enough umbrellas. Patrick's father was doing his rounds and saw my umbrella idea. He immediately started screaming at us "You stuck an umbrella in a live plant, take that out" "you're going to kill that plant how dare you move it". He was literally screaming at us in front of everyone by the pool. We have never been so embarrassed in all our lives and you could tell that the other guests were very surprised on how he treated us. I then tried to explain to him that I only did it because it was blazing hot and we needed some relief from the sun and the only 3 umbrellas at the pool were being used by other guests. The way he was screaming was uncalled for and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! He then went on "How we were told the day before about doing it" I replied "it was not us, we were at the beach until 5pm" He then scolded me to put the plant back to where it was which I did without any argument or hesitation. I suggested to him maybe to get more umbrellas because obviously 3 are not enough. Ran out of room but you get the picture

We opted for the suite which was a nice size and clean. It had an AC unit in both rooms so with the 2 on full blast you could keep meat in the place. That's all I needed. I booked way back in Jan, so it would of been nice to not have the 1 suite situated in front of the stairs which meant an obstructed view & no outdoor chairs, a drop annoying but def not the end of the world. The owners and staff were extremely friendly and took pride in the place. There was never a time the owner wasn't sweeping or rinsing down something or throwing out the trash. You could tell he really cared about their place, which is always a good thing. The cleaning person was also super attentive. We declined daily house keeping as w 2 little kids, the room was a warzone, but she still made sure we had fresh towels and toiletries. She even noticed after my swim with my daughter that we only had 1 towel and came over to offer another 1. Talk about attention to detail and situational awareness. I was super impressed. The pool was a nice size and kept immaculate. They had a lovely area to eat and bbq if you wanted. They also had a second area to eat that was shaded but also next to the smoking section so we opted to eat in the sun and fresh air every time. We were super happy w the place and will def be back. There were no negatives. As the owners work super hard and want everyone to have the best experience possible, my only suggestions would be to add extra hooks in the bathrooms for wet clothes, maybe some shelving as the sinks have no counter space and perhaps demo the step or paint it yellow that the surf shower sits on as I watched numerous people trip on it while there.
