I tried the pizza once and it really wasn't good. I tried a second time and got a pasta dish with meatballs and sausage along with two other entrees. The sausage was completely raw on the inside. I found out after taking a bite. This place is awful, never going there again. Absolutely any Italian in the area would be a better choice. read more

If this review was based soley on the food, it would be 5 stars all the way. The food is exceptional. The wait staff is exceptional. Unfortunately it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch and I have actually held off on the review to give this person, who I believe to be the owner, the benefit of the doubt (new business jitters, etc.) but he has never changed - he remains a rude, disrespectful person who has absolutely no business dealing with the public in any way. We have a large family so we have sampled most of the menu and been very pleased with it all. That being said, whoever this gentleman is, and whatever capacity he serves at the restaurant, he is hurting what is otherwise a goldmine of a business. I have personally witnessed him creating a hostile work environment for his employees, he has made derogatory comments to my children because they asked me if they could please have a mint after dinner (rather than asking him) and has chastised me while picking up a to-go order for my family and making small talk with one of the cashiers with the warning "Don't try that again." I don't understand this man, I find him offensive and rude. I do love the food there and so does my family. I just wanted to take a minute to explain my frustration with the staff of Acropolis Pizza in Arden. Not only have they refused to pay me for hours I worked, but are now being super uncooperative with getting my W2 to me. I am planning on filing complaints with the dept of labor as well as the IRS, but I need all of you to STOP supporting this business. They are a sleazy company who doesn't even slightly care about their employees. The manager, Liz Falcon, is probably the most unprofessional and immature person I have ever dealt with in the work place. I haven't ate there in about 4 years, but remember the baked spaghetti w/ onions/peppers & mushrooms being very good. The bread sticks were too. Food was really gross. Very canned taste, wilted veggies, and the french fries were ICE COLD! My husbands sandwich was cold in the middle and obviously microwaved. The server handled the situation in an extremely rude manner and did not offer to comp the uneaten food, even though they served it when it was obviously bad. Wont be eating there again!! Perfectly cooked thin crust pizza! You know what I mean, no raw dough, yet not overcooked. And delicious! The best pizza I've had in the Asheville area. I'v been frequenting Acropolis for years with my children as a family tradition that my parents started years ago with me and my brothers and sisters. To be honest though the only reason we've been returning time after time is because of the nostalgia of that tradition. Every time we would come we would end up leaving unsatisfied and frankly upset that we keep coming back. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about and everything else in the restaurant just seemed like a mess. Service was always terrible and "management" was essentially non-existent or rude and unprofessional. However, this last time we came to Acropolis (this most recent Thursday) OH MY GOODNESS! As soon as we walked in the doors the change in appearance, atmosphere, and overall cleanliness were extremely apparent, even from our last visit a mere 4 months ago! Our pizza was GREAT (maybe still a tad heavy on the cheese - sorry) and our server Jacob was phenomenal! He was knowledgeable and very timely in everything he did and just overall seemed like making our visit a good one was genuinely important to him. About halfway through our meal a young man (Gaven) claiming to be the manager walked up to the table and introduced himself. I held my breath due to interactions with Acropolis's "managers" in the past. Not only was Gaven polite and easy to talk to but he seemed to really care...I must have talked his ear off for what seemed like forever about bad experiences in the past. After listening to me complain like a teenager for half an hour and making sure everything for our current visit was perfect he left the table. A few minutes later after we had paid and were getting ready to leave Gaven stopped by our table again, but this time with a piece of their homemade maple bacon cheesecake (WHICH WAS AMAZING). He told me the dessert was on him and that he couldn't wait to see us back again to start helping us enjoy our tradition again. Before he left he gave me one of his cards and told me that if ever anything wasn't absolutely perfect to let him know and he would personally take care of us! If this is any sign of the direction Acropolis is headed then I'm very excited to say that eating there will remain for a long time to come one of my family traditions! AFTER 20+ YEARS, I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE ACROPOLIS AGAIN. I picked up a to-go order, as we usually do. Unbeknownst to me, the incorrect food was given to me. This was not discovered until i got home. I called the restaurant to let them know what had happened and asked if they would deliver the correct order (we live less than 5 miles from them). They refused to deliver. They also did not want the wrong order back but, the employee who made the error, would be made to pay for the extra order if i didnt pay it. I could not, in good conscience, punish the employee so i ended up paying for both meals. Very disappointed in my local pizzeria. We will not return. read more

The food was delicious....had the supreme pizza and it was everything we had hoped for and more the veal parm sub was excellent especially with the hand cut fries!!! The fresh cannolis topped off an exceptional meal. The only damper on the whole meal was the horrific service. my family and I had come in around two in the afternoon for a late lunch the servers would rather sit on their behinds then.check to make sure everything was good. One gave us our check before we were even half way done with our meal after we had expressed interest in dessert saying that she knew we were in a rush (we were not at all and had hours to kill before a flight).after trying to wave down several servers to get said dessert...then when my husband was at the counter to pay he was again treated rudely by a woman who was more interested in stuffing her face than taking care of us...thank goodness we do not live in NC and were only visiting so it will be so much easier to avoid the place. read more

Went for a late lunch (around 3pm), service was a little slow in spite of being nearly empty. My lasagna was amazing. My daughter ordered a small pizza, which had great flavor and fresh toppings, excellent quality cheese. Only complaint there would be the crust was very soggy. My mother had the eggplant parmesan and my son had the chicken parmesan. They both enjoyed it, and the portions of everything were very generous. The waitress could have been friendlier, and I would have given this a higher rating. The restaurant appeared very clean and tidy, though the bottles of house Greek dressing on the table was quite bitter, so I couldn't tell if it had perhaps been out too long, as it seemed past its prime. The small salad that came with the entrée was a bit too big for a starter, or maybe just too big for the plates they were served on, as it was difficult to dig in to without pieces falling off the plate, and they seemed a little less than fresh too. Not days old, but maybe made that morning and kept in the fridge? Not a surprise, but just took away from the freshness. The (beef) meat sauce was delicious, though and the cheeses and other entrée ingredients seemed high quality. The menu had many options, but I was very happy with the lasagna I chose. Would go back if I was in the neighborhood, but maybe not seek it out. read more

We went to Acropolis Pizza today. Weren't wanting red sauce so we ordered the Penne alla Vodka. A vodka sauce is creamy and reasonably light and creamy. This sauce had so many hunks of tomatoes (appearing to be canned) that picking them out there was virtually nothing left. Garlic is good but this was way over anything normal. However it didn't even change the tomato hunks and flavor. The bread was possibly toasted but I'm not sure. We also got Greek salads with the dinner. There was a good amount of feta but it was actually romaine lettuce with a cherry tomato on top and one small calamata olive. They forgot the pepperoncinis and I had to ask for them. We both hadn't eaten since the day before and were famished so we ate it. That is the only excuse I have for not sending it back and eating elsewhere. I have to rate this so I give it a 1 star actually was a -1 I have to say the service was excellent but Ice Bar provided that. read more

Yummy gluten free ravioli, lasagna, salads and dressings! Sauce is just ok, needs more garlic and other herbs for my taste.

We used to be regulars here, but not anymore. We got 2 pizzas to go and after my husband got home, he realized one of the pizzas was totally wrong, He called them up and they said to bring the wrong pizza back and they would make a correct pizza. After driving all the way back up there, Alex (the manager) offered no apologies, only excuses for his staff and their mistake. He then gave us a $5 gift card to the Ice Bar next door and rudely walked away. There are far better restaurants with much better service and management where we will be spending our money. read more

Honestly I try to call in a order to go at this place. These girls don't know the prices of the items, they guess at the prices. Are rude when you question about what is in the salad. Then after you finally place your order they hang up on you! This place used to be great! Not anymore, their food is not that good, service sucks! My fiancé and I randomly chose this place on a whim while running errands and it was amazing. He said the fried mushrooms were delicious and the mozzarella sticks were just ok but didn't damper the trip. We both got 10 in pizzas and it was top 3 best pizza I've had. You get quite a bit of food for what you're paying too. I would definitely recommend this place and will absolutely go back. I have ordered from Angelo's multiple times and have been very pleased with the food - I consider it the closest thing to NY pizza. I moved about a month ago and have ordered and had it delivered twice to my new home. I called on 7/6/17 to place an order and after I told the person on the phone what i wanted - he informed me that one they do not start delivery until after five. Which ok not a big problem but the first that i have heard from a pizzeria ever and second when i gave them my address he told me that i was to far exactly 9.8 miles. I said that you have delivered twice with no issues and he spoke to someone in the background and said sorry to far we only deliver within five miles. Again i have been to the store and have not seen anything like that before stated anywhere or I have not been told by a driver. I really disappointed and will never ever eat from that location - felt like the caller on the phone didn't care about customer service. read more

We had the Carolina Fries (cheese Fries with jalapenos cheddar, mozzarella and bacon. Very good. We then had a pizza which was okay. Crust was very basic, nothing special and toppings were fresh. Also had lasagna. Not bad (garlic bread was stale. We will go back but will stay away from pizza and concentrate on the greek and italian pasta dishes. Server offered samplings of all the gelato offerings which was nice. If the next visit (in a couple of days) goes better, I'll update my score. BTW, cash only. There is an ATM on the premise. My third time eating there. All 3 times I have been with a large group, a girls volleyball team and parents and they sat us quickly, and our food came promptly. I have ordered 3 different dishes and all are excellent. Large portions for a great price. Several tickets per table were always done correctly. Food was the excellent. WORST GYRO EVER. These guys need to stick to pizza because they are clueless when it comes to Greek food. Two sticks of lamb thrown in a pita with some wilted lettuce and dried out tomatoes. It looked like it was a week old. The owner came out after hearing the complaint and said he didn't see anything wrong with the gyros. As for the tomatoes, he said "don't you know there's a drought in California?" What a douche bag! Obviously he doesn't support the local farmers because the tomatoes in North Carolina are beautiful. Probably some of the best pizza I've ever had anywhere (and before you roll your eyes at my statement, I did grow up in Brooklyn, NY). Their regular cheese pizza is absolutely delicious. The sauce is fantastic and they don't go light on the cheese. They have fast delivery and are better priced than other pizza joints in the area. read more
