The sales professional I worked with was amazing. So sweet and calm, this review is more so for the white sales associate who decided to racial profile me while I was in the store. While waiting for the item that a spent hundreds of dollars on to be processed he came beside me and started fiddling with the the small items to the right of me. this included mini wallets and purses. I understand people steal ... but I don't. And this sales associates assumptions and obnoxious whistling next to me while he did it was annoying. This review is less for Acne - I know they won't change a thing - it's more so for people of color who are entering the store. As we always are - be cognizant of how you hold your body and where u place it. I was so excited for my purchase and of course that got overshadowed by a fool who deems himself more worthy than me. Maybe u steal. But I don't. If u read this note and want to chat over lunch or dinner - please let me know - trust me I can afford it. Just like I could afford those purses on the side table. This was a lovely shopping experience. The store is spaced out nicely so you never have to worry about being too close to anyone. The staff was nice but there wasn't a lot of them, so you have to be patient when they are checking on sizes for you. I called the location at 3:34 PM on 12/29/2020. The person who answered the phone was male. The call lasted 3 minutes. This representative, whoever it is which answered is a terrible representation for Acne Studios and its product line. I initiated the call by asking if they had a Black Leather Biker coat in stock and if it ran large. The representative was unsure of the item and asked for the item code. This is understandable. I don't expect employees to know every item on the floor. But in this scenario, there wasn't one in shown on the site. Here's where HE becomes frustrated with ME, not the other way around. He annoyingly responds "that makes no sense and what is the item was called". I replied "Leather Biker Jacket, Black in Mens". He then becomes increasingly more frustrated and annoyed saying, I know that's the description of the item you're asking about but what is it called? There should be a name for it. I replied, that's the name of it on the site. He then claims there are dozens of black leather biker jackets for men and he has no knowledge of any specific one. There's only ONE black leather biker jacket for mens. He then continues to say "This call has taken too much of my time already, I need to get back to my customer" and hangs up. I know we're days off from Christmas and we're in a pandemic, but this guy honestly doesn't care about your brand, his job or a sale. Get rid of him. Unacceptable behavior, my wife and I overheard him loudly trash talking another customer while we were checking out. Hearing your fellow patrons be completely disrespected behind their backs is not the type of experience I like to have while shopping during the holidays. Wanted to look at some bags that I had been looking at online while visiting nyc with my parents. We're not the most fashionable family, but upon walking in, we're ignored by staff, which is fine. While looking at a bag, I had wanted to adjust the straps, and my father saw an employee making a face at us- maybe I shouldn't have been adjusting the straps but the associate did not let us know. As soon as my father sarcastically confronted the associate that was making faces, the associate proceeded to walk away. I'd understand if it was a busy day, but there were no other customers, and being judged for our fashion, and cringed at by employees is not a fantastic experience. Coming from Canada, the only to shop Acne Studios was at Nordstrom, Holt Renfrew or Acne's website; so I was extremely excited to finally shop in person. I walked in and was greeted by Tammy who greeted me with such a bright smile! She helped me look for a scarf that I was interested in. Tammy also helped me look for the perfect jeans for me as finding jeans are always difficult for me. She picked out the River Mid jeans for me, I have never been into such perfectly comfortable jeans! It felt like it was made for me, Tammy knew exactly what I was looking for! A day after my purchases I received an email from Tammy notifying me the care instructions for my items. You know how in your mid-20s you have a stressful week and a zit suddenly appears on your nose right before a big date? As you do everything in your power to get rid of it just hours before said date you look in the mirror and think, "I thought we were over this?" That's a lot like shopping at ACNE. There were a few pieces I actually liked, but the sales people are so bizarre. A bunch of them stand against the back wall elbow-to-elbow giggling and snickering and looking everyone up and down as they come in. If you look up, they giggle and run into the back and then another group of sales people comes out and repeats the same performance. It looked like my nerdy kindergarten class picture circa 1981. As you try to go through one of the cramped racks, one of the sales people will stick his/her head around the rack silently and when you look up, he/she will run back to the wall, giggle and run through the back door. It was asinine, unprofessional and annoying. I wanted to try a few things on, but wasn't interested in playing their game. Their clothing isn't that original, nothing that couldn't be found at Opening Ceremony, where the service is great. My prediction, ACNE, like Cloak, will be gone in a few years, the only difference being, I'll have a beautiful Cloak suit to remember them by, but I left my ACNE in my jr high locker... read more

If I had unlimited supplies of cash, I'd spend some serious dough-ray-me in this Soho boutique. I'm essentially a Levi's guy, but these jeans are pretty sweet. They're made in Sweden, but don't seem too Euro for me. Acne also has nice khakis and even nicer fancy clothes like suits, slacks and blazers. Sadly I don't have the never-ending cash flow, so my stockpile of Acne clothes remains a pair of hand-me-down jeans from my little fashionista bro. Still, I'll take what I can get. Acne (Ambition to Create Novel Expressions) has opened their first store here in the states and I was lucky enough to duck in today. The store is a bit small, but extremely nice. Wood checked floors, stacked books, cute shabby chic bureaus and geometrical mirrors decorate the store that is packed with cute and casual designs, including their signature jeans. This store was opened in cahoots with the now infamous Opening Ceremony and the casual and cool vibe in the Acne store definitely pays homage to its mother store but still has its own quirky unique quality. I've been to this store twice, and both times I was the only shopper in there, which didn't feel awkward since they don't pressure you to buy anything...the staff is friendly and willing to help if you need it, otherwise they won't bother you (which i personally like, some people dont), the layout of the store is amazing, very chic...did i mention their dressing room is hidden behind a wall where the jeans are stacked the jeans are excellent! i have jeans from a.p.c, ernest & sewn, theory, ralph lauren, nudies, and the acne ones are by far my favorite, they also offer instore hems if the length is too long which takes a few days... the price may be steep for some people (200+ for jeans) but compared to mainstream jeans (ie: american eagle, A&F, express, etc), they are well worth it IMO. nobody said fashion would be cheap, they're not JUST jeans at least it's not 1k a pop like rby45rpm read more

I have shopped at this store several times and didn't really have a good overall experience. Today was particularly bad. First of all, the sales associate took forever to get the coat that I wanted to try on. Second, after the coat was obviously too big on me, two sales associates insisted that the coat was supposed to be "over sized". I mean, I understand that they want to make a sale, but is it really ok to tell customers that they look good even when the clothes are obviously too big or don't fit their body type? However, the thing that really set me off was when the sales associate agreed to call me back on one coat I wanted in my size but I never received the phone call. While I do adore their clothing, I found the customer service at this location to be practically nonexistent. First, it was difficult to identify who actually works there because they tend to just stand in front of the racks of clothing and not acknowledge anyone. After I decided to make a purchase, I asked one of the salespeople if they could get me a new one from the back as I saw people throwing the item around. He rolled his eyes at me and reiterated "What? A new one?" as if it was the most difficult task he had ever encountered. I contemplated speaking to the manager but honestly, I just wanted to get out of this place. I'm not sure if I just happened to go on a day where the least pleasant sales people were working or if they were just judgmental because based on other reviews, some people have gotten terrific service. A little north of a truly abysmal stretch of Canal street, Acne keeps a small but well curated selection of their expansive clothing line. The emphasis is on minimalist, expertly cut American and continental standbys. The outerwear is frequently impressive and frequently still around at sale time; I especially love their denim jackets. Everything but the jeans is massively overpriced at retail, but that's just in the nature of brands like this. That said, the Max Raw are always a good buy. At 2 hundo, they ain't cheap but these things are built like Volvos (well, I guess? that simile got away from me). I had mine for a year before they even started to stretch and fade in any real way. The Cash overdyed black are a good buy as well. It's a good place to find a lot of signature pieces to try on, but they're often on deeper sale elsewhere. read more

What a twist of events, I truly never predicted that I'd be writing a very negative review about one of my most beloved clothing stores, but here I am...doing just that. Acne on Greene has always had a pretty 'iffy' staff, their employees are either hyper-attentive and helpful, or will avoid interacting with you (the customer) like the plague. It can be a genuine toss up whether you will go in and have a good or bad experience. My most recent experience wasn't necessarily bad, per se, it was more of the aftermath of my visit that truly shook my perceptions of this store. So for context, I just came home from school for winter break and headed to SoHo to check out all of the lovely clothing stores that make me despise going to school in the barren upstate.. So I went to Acne a few days ago, since I wanted to try on a few pieces that had been added in their most recent FW collection. It went fine, decided to purchase a casey crew in their newest palette, 'balsam green'. This was great and all, the experience was pretty typical: I walked in, saw a few idle employees, they scurried away, I took sometime to look around, found the piece I liked, asked to try it on at the front desk, tried it on, bought it, and left; pretty mechanical. Anyway, the real dilemma was that upon returning to my house (I live about 45 mins outside of Manhattan). I had realized that my sweatshirt still had its security tag on it, which I know better than to try and remove by myself at home. So, since it's close to Christmas, I knew my best bet was to head back to Acne the next day. And that's exactly what I did. Now to quantify it; a trip to Manhattan + Metrocard fare adds up to around $35ish-$40 for me, based on peak & round fares. It also takes up a significant amount of time, I actually had to cancel my entire list of plans for the day to come back to Manhattan. Now, as a person who works in a service/retail industry position, I totally understand mistakes like this, they happen, people are human and are inherently imperfect. That's fine, and I was NOT mad at the employee for making the mistake. However, after calling and letting them know I was coming back down, I strongly had it in my mind that I wanted to speak to the store's manager, as I was dissatisfied with my latest experience, especially having to pay for an employee's mistake. So I did just that. I went to Acne, waited around, finally got help, they promptly removed the tag and apologized, and then I proceeded to ask an employee that I would like to speak the their manager. The first thing that kind of ticked me off was a bit of a nitpick, but the employee asked me why, which I think is not something an employee should ask in the first place, because it was clear why I was upset, but also, because it is not their issue to resolve if I have actively committed to seeking out a manager. He got the manager, Matthew, I believe his name was, he was nice enough, gave me a managerial apology, which you can imagine, is an over-inflated apology, which is quite halfhearted and only done for policy reasons. I gave him my spiel on how everyone makes mistakes, etc. HOWEVER, I did add that when in a service industry, based on a system where the customer is the main priority and generally is "right", I felt that this mistake needed to be amended beyond just a "sorry". I told him that it wasn't right for me to have to literally pay for a mistake on their behalf with no level of compensation. (And just for the record, I honestly couldn't care less about trying to squeeze them for money or whatever, I'm much more concerned with the principle of the matter; which is, having to suffer consequences based on someone else's folly). So I asked him straight up, "I believe that compensation at the barest level, for my travel expenses would be quite fair". He did not go for it, he refused and said that the best he could do is say sorry again. That didn't fly with me, especially in a service where store credit costs the store nothing. I just wanted to the core principle of what happened to be somewhat rectified, but it wasn't. So I told him I found that response to be unacceptable and I would not be buying from that store again. Look, if you read all of this, I hope that it doesn't seem as if I'm just ranting or whining, you can choose wherever you'd like to buy your clothes, but honestly as far as I'm concerned, if this is the kind of vibe Acne exudes towards its base (consistent Acne Studios consumers, such as myself), then I'm really not interested in their product/service, because I'm not just a dollar bill. I shop at stores like Acne because a) you get better quality clothes and b) better customer service than at other places. This store gives me no reason to come back. I purchased jeans and paid Acne to hem them for me. When I went to pick them up today, they were still way too long and instead of apologizing for the mistake, they made a big deal out of taking them back and hemming them again. They then also made me pay for another hemming even though it was obvious that they had done a poor job the first time. I was clearly annoyed with the situation which they tried to ignore. They don't really seem to know how to take care of their customers in a way that represents their high end brand positioning. Not impressed read more

I love their product but this isn't a review of that, it's more for the location itself and the staff. TLDR; Karen is awesome; Alison is shit. In the past couple months I've popped in several times and I've had the best experience and been helped by really great staff. I generally like this location better than Horatio because the people are kinder. But today I was "helped" by someone named Alison (tall, platinum/blonde hair) and she was unlike all the others. She asked what it was I wanted to try on, I told her exactly the style name, wash and size - both waist and inseam. She handed me one pair of jeans with a diff inseam and suggested I try it on and then based on the fit she will get the rest. I did as she suggested, and popped out of the dressing room to follow up with her. She and I made eye contact several times; she flat out ignored me. It was a touch worse in fact, it almost felt like "I see you, I know I said what I said, but nah I'm going to continue doing what I'm doing and help these other folks." As I stood outside my dressing room confused and annoyed, another person, named Karen, came over, apologized for the mix up even though it was not her fault at all, and helped me find what I needed. At no point did Alison return to me to apologize or make sure I had everything I needed. I understand when stores get busy and people forget but this wasn't a case of forgetting. read more

I would not even give one star to this store. They have a horrible return policy, knowing that many vendors who sell their products (who are almost neighbors to their store) accept refunds, they choose just exchange or store credit. I got Acne products before in other multi brand stores (not Acne stores) and I went to the Greene store for the first time to buy a pair of shoes. I was undecided and told the girl who helped me that I would take it home to try it again with my clothes. The girl at the store who sold me pair of shoes I heard clearly saying to me refund or store credit (but I give them benefit of the doubt in case I heard it wrong). I went back to ask for a refund and they totally deny they told me that. They were really unhelpful and they did not even want to discuss it or bother to understand I was as a first time customer in their store and mistakes happen. Certainly they do not care to keep customers coming. I'm definitely not coming back to an Acne store, I prefer to give my money to different vendors... A cult classic. I love their Needle jean, the lyocell tops are perfect, the Lanvin collaboration is genius. Not to mention what they can do with leather and fringe. And I love that Acne's color palette is almost entirely neutral. With that said, I was elated when Acne opened a stand alone boutique. Sifting through the racks at Opening Ceremony for Acne was getting tiresome, as they've always been relevant enough to have their own store. The store is just off Canal Street, across from a parking lot. It is light and airy, decor is minimalist, and the sales people are very helpful. I should also add that its amazing how excited people get about Acne. Once after a shopping trip to the store, I stopped off in a bar on Broome Street for a drink. A tall, pretty boy noticed the Acne shopping bag and demanded that I show him what I had bought. read more

Horrible customer service! The black employees totally conditioned to ignored us, whom ourselves are black! asked a white couple if all is well and skipped past us. A male with a receding hairline who was very curt and unhelpful. i have personally never bought anything from acne. but, my fiance is a huge fan of their denim. i can't speak for other locations, but the people working here were friendly and helpful. my fiance asked questions and they were answered. they pulled the jeans he wanted and gave suggestions on fit and wear. the store set up is different. it kind of reminds me of an apartment with different rooms. kinda neat, especially if you're there just browsing as you wait for your shopaholic fiance to finish trying on jeans (hahaha, hopefully he never reads this review). all in all, i don't get the other reviews about the rude service or whatever. i thought everyone was perfectly nice and helpful. but, i guess you can't please everybody. read more

I live down the street from Acne, so when I saw a beautiful scarf online, I was excited to be able to see it/buy it in the store almost immediately. Unfortunately, the salespeople are super unhelpful. The store was crowded, but the salespeople were just awkwardly milling around by the register. As of 2018 Acne has completely turned over a new customer service leaf. Two extremely lovely people helped me try on four sizes and two lengths (it's harder than it looks sometimes to figure out your size in advance). Shoutout to Mike. I had been dreading this errand for approximately a year. Buying jeans is time consuming and can be mortifying if you're rushed or cowed to ask for help. I love the brand and have many Acne items. The staff has been helpful while I've shopped in the store. Recently I had a warranty issue with a pair of boots and had so much trouble getting it resolved that I almost gave up. But once the manager stepped in, things were handled well and I was happy with the result. I bought a pair of jeans on a Friday and Kyle was very helpful. I needed them shortened so I had them done with their "in-house" tailor. I was promised that they'll be ready by the following Wednesday at 2pm - which is written on the pick-up slip. I leave the paper bag with my original receipt. Wednesday comes, I call around 1130am to make sure that the jeans are ready. They said I should come at 2pm and it will be ready. I get there at 3:40pm and I wait for 10minutes. The first girl tells me that "it's being packed together w the other alterations and it should get here in 10minutes - if not, she will go there and grab it herself as its only 2 blocks away." I wait for another 10minutes and another girl comes and tells me that it's done and she is sending one of the employees to pick it up. I wait for another 10minutes and nothing shows up. Finally, another girl comes to me and tells me the horrific news "they're being done right now and it should be ready in 15minutes or less" "it's 3 blocks away if you want to pick them up there - it's called *&* cleaners on grand street - you can't miss it. " my point is that I'm really disappointed as I had to pay $5 to have it done and the wait was such an inconvenience as I have a whole day planned out. I ended up going to the tailor myself and as I got there, it was folded and was just sitting on the counter, no paper bag no plastic no nothing. Why spend hundreds of dollars on jeans when it would just be treated this way? In the end, I got my jeans, without any receipt whatsoever. It's really unprofessional for such a luxury brand. I came in with my brother to get him some jeans. The jeans are nice, however the staff is somewhat cold. Two of the women were nice but quiet. The other woman, who was taking our sale, did not smile once. It was bewildering and could be interpreted as rude. If it was not for the fact I have been given great reviews for this denim we would have walked right out. When I asked if he could try on more styles they basically refused. Anyone ever hear of "give the customer what they want". I made it clear that he had the money to purchase the denim and we were not jerking them around. Despite this they were very unhelpful in the denim selection. Really should get some new employees who are more helpful and friendlier. He probably would have bought more jeans if that was the case. Instead, we got the one pair and walked over to 7 for mankind, where we were well-received with a smile and helped after we made inquiries.
