Talk about awesome customer service. I stopped by because I was having problems with one of my headlights. I had already changed the bulb yet still nothing. I dropped it off and took the little one to the Subway across the parking lot. Before we had finished ordering, they not only fixed the problem, a blown fuse (duh), they had brought the car to us. Three stars as the transmission was successfully repaired/replaced, because Acme owner and lead technicians communicated with me professionally and politely during a difficult repair, and stuck with it until completed for the quoted price. Transmission operated very well after that. Vehicle was sold 10 months after repair, transmission still working flawlessly. However ... vehicle was in the Acme shop for repair 7 times, a total of 45 days. This incl. 6 weekend days that Acme didn't work, and I didn't have my vehicle. First repair drop off was Sept. 20 2016 and final pickup was Dec. 20. Typically the transmission would malfunction after pickup during the drive home, so most of the days I did have the vehicle it didn't shift properly. In my opinion this discouraging three month period could and should have been much shorter. read more

Stay away from ACME TRANSMISSION, they had my car for over 2 weeks for a simple transmission job which takes 3 to 5 days, the owner Mark stroked us around rather than telling me when I called they were backed up and it would take 3 weeks. Not good business at all... I am very upset. read more

My ACME Transmission experience is COMPLETELY OPPOSITE of Angus MacGyver's! I have been taking my car to ACME Transmission since 2007, when current owner, Mark Boothby took over the business. Mark has done a great job, and has gone above and beyond the call of duty, to keep my previous 2 Subaru Legacys (1995 + 2000) running in tip-top shape, and has recently (in the last 2 weeks) replaced the engine in a 3rd of my Subarus (2006). I have had oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, and a transmission rebuilt at ACME. ACME Transmission employs experienced, problem solving mechanics, who excel at troubleshooting and repairing automotive and transmission issues. If they uncover a problem, that is different from the reason the vehicle was initially in the shop, they follow-up by contacting the customer, apprising them of the additional repairs, the urgency of the need for that repair, and the cost of those repairs, and the customer is given the opportunity to either authorize, decline, or schedule the additional repair(s) for a future date. I've been taking my car to Mark at ACME since 2007. If I have a problem, I can drop my car off to have it looked at. Mark and his crew are great. Mark talks to me first before any work is done. He's very knowledgeable of what needs to be done, can be done and what can wait. Giving me options, and being honest, is very worthwhile to me, when a repair is needed. I've had multiple maintenance jobs, and repairs, done here. I've never been disappointed in the work. Mark has also gone above and beyond to keep me, as a valued customer. Recently, I found myself stranded in another state. I gave Mark a call and he talked me through the symptoms and possible options I could follow in order to get back home safely. Once I got back home, he took my car right away to give it the 'once over' to make sure my car remained safe to drive. Who else does that? I will continue to go to ACME. A couple weeks before the holidays I was driving home before work and stopped at the gulf station because I noticed my tire was extremely low. I tried putting air in it but it was retaining the air, so I called triple A and they told me they were going to have to tow it farther than I would have liked. So I noticed I was right next to Acme and ran over to ask them if they could help tomorrow because it looked like they were closing. To my surprise they fixed my tire and my headlight right on the stop, completely saving me for having to pay triple A fees. They were extremely nice and I will definitely be back for more work soon. THE ABSOLUTE WORST AUTO REPAIR EXPERIANCE I HAVE EVER HAD!!! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE had my vehicle towed on 2/12/15 to Acme for transmission rebuild. I was quoted 3 days start to finish. I called 2/20/15 after a week of no contact and was told they would start working on my car the following week! Finally i was told the car was "all set" on 2/27/15. Brought the car back 2/28/15 because it was making a loud clicking sound that it never made before. i was told they couldnt even look at it until 3/2/15. I arrived on 3/2/15 and was told to come back the following morning the exhaust just needed to be adjusted he said. Brought the car back the following day, acme kept the car all day long and when i got the car back there was still loud clicking. Took the car to FORD and they say when transmission was swapped there were no gaskets placed between exhaust and manifold. I thought these were professionals. AVOID THIS PLACE! read more

I am writing a review on behave of my family member who was repeatedly taken advantage of and screwed over by this awful company. From the management to the mechanics, no one takes pride in their workmanship or customer service. My family member had work done that was "guaranteed" by this company. As the repair continued to be a problem the vehicle was taken back several times and held for multiple weeks, for the same problem. After well over 1k dollars paid to Acme the vehicle remained broken. The company then voided any guarantees in order to insure the truck was not brought back! Don't worry, NO ONE in my family or anyone that sees this, will ever return to your business. Consumer should avoid Acme Transmission on 383 Southbridge Street to prevent this from happening to another innocent customer. read more

This place is a total rip-off. First they had my sons truck for a month for a 3 day job. When we got it back reverse didn't work after one day and we had to bring it back. Another 2 weeks go by and we finally get the truck back. One month later the transfer housing cracked in half and the owner would not honor the warranty. When I pressed the issue we actual pull pictures off of the son's Facebook page which were a year old and tried to say they were recent. I have filed a small claims lawsuit against them. My daughter had her car fixed at Acme transmission, we got the car out and something else was leaking, the owner Mark was gracious enough to get us back in in a timely fashion and get the car fixed right. What a nightmare! First they kept the car for a week, then it leaked as soon as I got it home. I took it back 3 times and they always said it was due to their overfilling the system. Then they changed and said it was not their work leaking. So, 2 trips to another shop proved it WAS their work leaking. So, 3 more trips before they could even work on it and now they claim they won't cover it.....they want to charge to fix the leak they caused!! What a rip-off - BEWARE of these guys! read more

My acme transmission experience. Brought my Ford F-250 in for transmission work the replacement took 3 weeks to complete I was told 1 week but it took 3 . When calling I was told the tranny they got was garbage and they had to get another . When the job was completed and I picked up my truck a flange on the exhaust pipe had broken . I was told they wouldn't fix it for free I was not expecting free but at the same time they didn't tell me I had to get under the truck and find it my self this could have caused at least $1000. For an exhaust system if I had not found it myself. Now fast forward to the next day my newly placed tranny will not shift I had to tow back to acme $125 they fixed it and I had them do a couple of other things picked the truck up 1 week later drove the 2 miles up the road and the truck wouldn't shift again brought it back down there and left it for another 2 weeks . Please keep in mind I have three trucks they are all work trucks that get maintained and repaired as needed at the time of this experience I was in between mechanics and in search of a new one . I gave acme my truck for 9 out of 10 weeks over $4700 for repairs and in the end I still had to have that tranny rebuilt by another tranny shop acme sucks if you bring your vehicle there and they rip you off like I got ripped off then you deserve it , how this place is still open is beyond my comprehension. If I ran my small business this way I wouldn't be working for long my trucks are tools that worked and repaired regularly for one to be in a shop for 2 full months and then still need to rebuild the tranny they sold . Drove from Florida June 2016. My Aveo has a history of problems .. then boom, my car wouldn't shift. Found Acme Transmission .. was prepared to dole out mucho money for a new transmission. The owner's name is Mark, my Tech was Rich. Rich found my problem! It took several days, and they not only fixed the problem, but also drove me home several times while they tested the car over and over. They could have sold me a new transmission ... Rich, using his analytical skill, drilled down to the problem ... my Aveo master computer! Their honesty and careful analysis fixed my transmission problem and every other recurring problem I had for years with this car. The car has driven like new, with no problems whatsoever since June (I write this review Nov 2016).
