Jay is very rude and aggressive. Over charges and tries to do work that is unnecessary. Drove a vehicle there for a "free" transmission diagnosis. Was told the next day the battery was dead and it needed a starter. Both of which was untrue. He decided to put a new battery in it and charged close to $400.00 for that. Quickly got my vehicle out of there. They will suck you dry. read more

Transmission was shot on my Nissan, they advised me that there were class action lawsuits out there due to infamous unreliability of the transmissions on a number of Nissan models - I juuuust missed the window to be eligible to have Nissan fix it. Point being, they tried to help in that regard, my transmission was on back order for a couple of weeks, but they managed to find one in a couple of days, replaced at a very fair price. They had my transmission twice, when I got the truck back it was leaking and making noise. I took it to another shop after they told me I would have to pay for the tow bill back to their shop, and the other shop found that HALF THE PAN BOLTS WERE LOOSE AND IT WAS 7 QUARTS LOW!!! (takes 14 qts to fill) Unbelievable! Terrible work, and he wouldn't pay to have it towed back to his shop after it was their fault. I will never take anything to them and I have several work and personal vehicles. He will never get my business again and you shouldn't give him yours.! read more

My car sat at a Hyundai dealership, going in to the the 5th month, needing a transmission. I became very annoyed, especially, when I was told a transmission was on a truck coming from Texas. 2 weeks went past, so I went to the dealership, to find out the status. Somehow, that transmission went from being a truck to being on back order. I then decided, enough is enough. I searched for a transmission shop and found Jay, at Manchester Transmission. I read all of the reviews, sounded like the perfect place to have my car towed to. Jay, kept me updated and in less than 3 weeks, I finally got my car back. Had an urgent need late on a Friday to have our 2005 Scion XB checked for a possible transmission issues. The owner had us bring it right in and within 5 minutes was able to tell us that it was a coolant issue. Jay recommended another local shop to take it to for attention. He was honestly interested in getting us help not matter if it was from him or someone else. He would not accept payment for the quick visit and support! Had an issue with the transmission engaging on a Friday night, however were able to get it home. Called Manchester Transmission and left a message not knowing if they were open Saturday's due to COVID-19. We received a call back Saturday morning and had the car towed over. Jay was very forthcoming as to the options we had. The car was older so we were able to make a decision on either replacing the transmission or purchasing another vehicle. We went with the later and appreciate that Jay was honest because anyone else would have just recommended a new transmission even if the value of the car didn't warrant it. I had the transmission on my Town and Country replaced here. The owner is nice enough and the price was about average, but two things happened that will keep me from going to this shop again. First, right after we got our van back, the steering felt funny. It gradually got worse, to the point where whenever we turned it would continue turning further on its own. We brought it back and they checked it; I asked that they take it on a test drive so they could see what was happening. They told me that they didn't take it on a test drive but that they checked it and everything looked fine. However, the problem persisted. So I took it to another shop and the mechanic there did take it on a test drive. When he came back, he said that it was the scariest drive he's ever had; he found that the steering rack was completely loose. He tightened it to the correct specs and this solved the problem. Second, right after the they replaced the transmission, the van ran pretty irregularly. It would change gears at the wrong time and sometimes would stay in a gear for too long, causing the engine to rev very high before changing gears. We went back to the shop and were told that it would take a bit of time for the transmission to learn how we drive, and then it would work normally. That never happened, and when we took it back they couldn't find the problem. We then took it to yet another shop, and they found a lose hose that was not reconnected after the transmission was installed. They reconnected it and the van ran the way it was supposed to. The transmission itself does seem to be working fine, however, they did put my family's life at risk because of the steering issue, we had to put up with a lousy-driving van for a long time, and they were unable or unwilling to diagnose and resolve either of these issues, which they had caused. read more

My 2005 Ford Sport Trak was having all sorts of issues going into park. I was distraught because this meant the dreaded transmission job that I knew would cost me a lot. So I put it off until the truck was almost un-drivable. I decided to take it to Manchester Transmission and truly just wanted a ball park figure because I felt it was a linkage issue and not a transmission issue. Jay said he would have to see it and that it may not be a big deal. He was right, I went over on a Saturday morning, waited about 10 minutes while Jay had it in the bay, he came to the waiting area and took me out to the underside of my truck. pointed out the issue and explained it to me. I was referred to Manchester Transmissions from Pop's Exhaust. I spoke to Jay and he set up an appointment for the following morning. They offer evening "drop off" service. Transmission issues are never a "good thing" so I was anxious to hear the bad news. . .well, Jay called me the next morning and told me that he "coded" the car and took it for a test drive and could find nothing wrong with the transmission! Phew! He did however note that the battery terminals were corroded and the battery was charging low. He took the time to clean the terminals and replace the battery. I was thrilled that their wasn't a diagnostic charge and he replaced the battery so my car was ready to be picked up before noon time! I appreciated Jay's honesty (because the car is 15 years old and a "new" transmission could have been an easy diagnosis). If you feel you have ANY type of transmission issues. . .GO TO MANCHESTER TRANSMISSIONS! Tremendous service. Monday morning I feel some delayed engagement when I put it in drive. So @ 645am Im calling around to see who I can talk to. The only person answering their phone at that hour is Jay from Manchester Transmissions. I tell him about the latency I experienced and he tells me to come in around 730 when he's finished opening the shop. GREAT! I'm there right on time and so is Jay. I speak to him again and I told him how my warranty expires tomorrow so I really need to figure this out. He keeps his word on the free diagnostic even after I told him I'd be getting it serviced elsewhere, which is extremely professional and honorable, and appreciated. He then calls me back earlier than estimated with what he found, I had a dry dip-stick. Now I don't even know what a dip-stick is but he explained it to me without making me feel like an idiot whereas some people just like to show off their knowledge in a particular field. Finally he tells me that the best thing to do is to get it worked on by the dealership or the folks that worked on the car before. Super honest and thorough and the free diagnostic was amazing, I will definitely be going back to Manchester Transmissions (hopefully not though) in the future.
