Decided to pick up fried chicken for my family for dinner. The fried chicken tasted like someone doused it in lighter fluid. Did researched and discovered that fried chicken that tastes like lighter fluid or chemicals is typically the result of degraded cooking oil, retained processing agents (like chlorine), or lipid oxidation. Because this flavor indicates a breakdown in quality or an unintended contaminant, it is highly recommended to stop eating the chicken. Basically, Acme is using dirty old cooking oil and not changing it which as a result is giving the skin of the chicken a chemical or lighter fluid flavor to the breading of the skin. I will be returning the rest of the uneaten chicken and will be requesting a full refund of my money and WILL NOT be purchasing fried chicken from this location again. read more

Went in on Friday around 5 pm - went to fish counter, no one there, came back, no one there or in the back, went to customer service counter to call someone, nope no one working that desk either. Ordered five hoagies from the Flourtown deli. Picked up a nicely prepared tray with bagged separate veggies to prevent soggy sandwiches, pickles and condiments. Impressive until I got home & saw the hoagies. Literally! one piece of meat & cheese. The Italian, because it's a two meat sandwich, also had only one piece of each meat. $6.49 per sandwich. Too late for me to take it back & complain but not too late to say "never again". Very disappointed; could've made so much better myself even if I had to pay $5 more for veggies. read more

Flourtown stores manager just yelled at me "Andy" is his name about questions re the free turkey program and shamed an elderly man looking for incont products all in the same sentence. Told me he doesn't want to work the holiday. Told the older male "isle 18 didn't you listen!!" Neither does anyone I said in my scrubs post 36 hours in 3 days caring for the elderly as a RN. I went to order deli meats and the guy behind the counter was slicing sweeping the floor with gloves on. He asked me what I wanted and then proceeded to attempt to slice my Turkey with the same gloves he had in handling the broom. That's gross and unsanitary. Never going there again. read more

I like the Acme in Flourtown. The staff is usually friendly and helpful, the store is clean and the selection is decent, but over the last year or so their pricing has been substantially higher than the Giant just 3 blocks away - particularly for produce. Just this week (ending 9/14) for instance, Acme offers a seedless watermelon for $8.99. Giant has that same exact item for $5.99 (regular non-sale price). That's a $3 difference on a single produce item. During the peak season, Giant had those melons priced at $2.99. Acme has always been at least $1 higher. Other produce items reflect that same pricing differential - and Acme prices remain generally higher - comparing apples to apples as to quality, pack size and price - across all categories. I comparison shop every item every time I buy groceries and unfortunately, I find myself consistently placing my grocery orders with Giant, only using Acme as an occasional fill-in. WTF indeed. I can never find anything in that store. What's up with the section behind the registers that you don't even see until after you've paid? I think maybe it is an experiment to break me of my usual shopping routine, you know the rut, you assume similar items would be in the same location. Instead Acme has broken that paradigm and dissociated items and their context. Maybe its actually a huge installation art piece. Or maybe the people who decide the layout are messed up on cough syrup. Whatever the answer, shopping at Acme consistently provides for mind altering experience. read more

The cashiers are the friendliest in town. No complaints except for lack of check out registers. Difficult to understand because it seems to be everyone's reason to stop shopping there because you just can't get out quickly. Otherwise really nice store with nice and hard working people. Don't know names but my 2 favorite cashiers are the man who used to be a drug rep (I am a nurse lol) and the man with the chihuahua mix (I too have a small dog). Both kind and friendly and a pleasure to see after a long day. They make food shopping bearable. Acme hires nice people. Customer Service is nice too and will try to help you. I also use their pharmacy and trust the pharmacist there and again I'm a nurse so selective where I go. Thanks Acme for an all around great experience! read more

Acme in Flourtown is good for a small local grocery store. It's clean, has a fairly decent layout and selection and the staff is pretty good. If you're looking to grab something quick it's the best option close by. (The Genuardis in Flourtown and Acme in Ft Washington both kinda suck) However, If you're looking to do some heavy, stocking up, grocery shopping you're probably better off heading somewhere else. read more

Nice staff here. Clean. Relatively small store for the suburbs, but MUCH larger than the Acme in the Andorra section of the city (about 3-4 miles away). Better since the re-do of the aisles, even though someone else complained here. Since this original review, they have constructed a giant "Giant" store about a 1/2 mile up Bethlehem Pike. It's pretty darned nice... modern, wide aisles, well lit and well stocked. But I still go to this Acme more often because the employees at Acme are more informed, and nicer. Really. read more

I LOVE the music at this Acme! It has a pretty awesome soundtrack. Got to disagree with Joan. The music puts a little pep in my step. Also, I am in this store at least twice a week and I have never heard an instructional video. Maybe they did away with that in the last year. The staff is seriously the most friendly staff I have ever encountered anywhere. And if you know how to shop, you can get great deals. It's not the cheapest store--but if you plan, and only buy what's on sale each week, you can make it into one of the cheapest! The Acme brands are great deals and they never disappoint. They have tons of 10 for $10 deals (and PS people you don't need to buy 10 to get the $1 each price!). It's close to my house, friendly, and economical. Not to mention clean and well stocked. As supermarkets go, this is a good store. They have recently upgraded their meat and fish departments. The produce is generally good, with a lot of loss leaders. And the staff is unfailingly friendly. BUT shopping there is such a NOISY experience! There are always a loud "instructive" videos on in the produce and meat departments and in the rest of the store the ambient "background" music is so loud and tasteless that it's hard to concentrate on complex shopping decisions! read more
