I cannot speak highly of this contractor... Although the job got completed in an untimely fashion, there were several bumps along the way. From the contractor trying to save money by not bringing in a dumpster to keep things contained, to him getting in verbal altercations with his workers for non-payment, Alan was very unprofessional. The industry standard is 50% down, he requested 75%. He does not have the money to start a job, let alone pay his workers. I will take blame in that I asked him to wait until insurance paid me before he would receive the remainder of his money, but he went back on his word that he would complete the job and wait on the check. It started with yes, I can do the entire job and wait for your insurance to I can't afford the material to do the second part you're asking me to do to I need money to pay my workers before I can continue. For a job that would have made him 10k, he was given the original 75% down which was 4,800 which should have covered him until the job was complete. But that was not enough, he needed more and more. He ended up talking himself completely out of the second portion of the job. He repeatedly showed up to the jobsite later in the day then I would have expected from a roofer. Between 11-1pm. He complained there was rain somewhere else so he couldn't do my job, even though it was not raining at my location. He also told me he's 42 and can't be up on a roof all day, he's just too worn out for that. If I would have told him that the entire roof was going to be completed, he would have shown up with a larger crew. I explained that the insurance decided to pay for the entire roof before he even started the job. He could have made that decision and chose a different start date. Did he fulfill the original contract? Yes. Did he do a decent job. The roof looks good, but the jobsite was left in tatters. Was he professional? After claiming I was trying to rip him off, screaming at his employees in my front yard over pay, and going back on his word, I would not recommend him for any work. He is not prepared to be in business. read more
