After researching several tattoo shops and artists in the area, I decided that Aces High was going to be the best option for my tattooing experience. The artist portfolios look to be of high skill and the studio is known for its cleanliness. I had such a positive experience at Aces. I was in town for just a few days and called to see if I could get in with Jeff after looking at artists' portfolios on their website. I called and the man answering the phone was super nice and informative. He told me that I would need to come by the shop to consult with the artist and see if I could get worked into his schedule while in town. I did as he told me. When I arrived at Aces, I only had to wait a couple of minutes to consult with the artist. I told him exactly what I was looking for and he told me what would and wouldn't work with my design, of course looking for the tattoo to last and be readable over the years. I expressed worry about getting a straight line and on an uneven area; Jeff was honest about the difficulty of the area to tattoo a straight line, but was confident that he would make the tattoo look good. I was happy with what we decided and paid the deposit for a tattoo the next day. When I came back for my tattoo, I was taken back to where the tattooing would take place. There were two artists (including my own) and two people being tattooed (including me). I liked that it wasn't super crowded and minimal distractions, if any. Jeff showed me my sealed needles and expiration dates for each, which is comforting. We applied the stencils for each tattoo. Jeff was able to capture exactly what I wanted for each tattoo (size, design, etc.) and each was perfectly sized and designed for the areas of my body where I wanted them. Since my tattoos were rather small, I was in and out in just about 30 minutes. Jeff was super focused on his work and took care with my straight line that I had expressed concern about on the day we originally met. Everything turned out exactly as I had hoped and, even better in some ways. Not only was I met with a clean studio and friendly people, but I was met with knowledgeable people who focused on giving me high-quality permanent pieces on my skin. The artist took time to listen to what I wanted, asked a handful of clarifying questions to make sure he got exactly what I wanted, and took his time to tell me how to adequately take care of my tattoos for proper healing. I will absolutely go back to Aces High and see Jeff if ever I choose to get another. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. We went in with drawings and full descriptions of what we wanted. We were told no problem and gave a $300 deposit ($100 per person) when we went in the next day for our appointment we were told they couldn't do what we wanted. The "artist" Brian drew a quick new version that was nothing like what we wanted. When we asked for some small changes he gave us a nasty attitude and basically yelled at us and stormed off to do another drawing. We were told to get what they drew for us eventhough it was not at all what we wanted and proceeded to treat us with disdain for not just accepting a drawing we didn't like. They also kept out $300 eventhough they said they could do what we wanted when we have the deposit and apparently they can only do one thing and are too rude and careless to spend any time on the individual or the art Absolute WORST experience. read more

There were five of us with no appointment and they got us in right away. Made sure we were getting exactly the pieces we wanted and walked us through each step from the drawing to the aftercare. My wife and I were vacationing in North Myrtle Beach. and both of us wanted to get a tattoo to celebrate our anniversary. This was my first experience being discriminated against as a disabled veteran with a service dog, and overall denied access. They refused to acknowledge that the Americans with Disabilities Act (a federal law) supersedes SC Dept of Health & Education's rules, didn't bother to look either ADA or SC DHEC guidelines, then they didn't want to give my $60 deposit back. Backstory: I planned my trip and drove from Texas to Myrtle Beach, all planned around getting my tattooing done in an area I was stationed. I previously had gone to Joe at Elite Ink Tattoo who did amazing work. I wanted some of the color re-inked and start a new one. They couldn't fit me in but recommended Chuck at Aces High because they were familiar with and respected his work, thought he would be the best fit for what I wanted, and that the tattoo parlor was an excellent alternative. I thought it was great that they would praise a competitor. I went over to Aces High and told them everything. They (manager and an artist) immediately disparaged Elite Ink for not fitting me in, re-inking me for free, that the color didn't set right wasn't an allergic reaction but bad work, and wanted to know why Elite would recommend a specific artist when they were all experienced and amazing. So I think "Ok, let's let this go and focus on the tattooing". I explained what I wanted and they went back and forth about not having time, but Chuck was great and said since I came to the state for this and was leaving in 2 days that he'd stay late the next night for me. I made the appt, informed them that I needed to have my service dog with me, and it all started going downhill from there. They told me that my "puppy" was not allowed in. Side note: she's a 3.5yo well trained SD, in a vest, and behaving perfectly. The manager said it was state mandate that no animals are allowed in to the tattoo room. I mentioned that the ADA is federal law and supersedes state laws, that she is allowed everywhere any client would be allowed. But I said to avoid the problem, if I was feeling alright when I came in I could have her sit in the hallway where I could see her or leave her in my vehicle (evening with cool weather, don't worry!) but that I needed her close by in case any medical situations arose. They agreed with this and I paid a $60 deposit. Jump forward to the next evening and I came in for my appt. They had set up a table outside the door for screening, so the rest of this situation occurred outside and in front of about 8 other people in a 15ft radius who could hear everything. I'd had a very high stress day and my SD helps treat that and so told them I needed to have her with me. The female (front desk clerk?) said absolutely not and proceeded to again tell me that SC DHEC does not allow animals. She further explained that dogs shed dander which can cause allergic reactions and other issues and were not allowed in sterile environments for the safety of others. I explained that she was a Service Dog, not a regular dog, and that ADA states she must be allowed to go wherever I do so long as she is not out of control. She argued that DHEC overrules the federal law, that I didn't have the right to put others in danger of allergic reactions, staph, and other diseases with my dog and that I needed to call someone to pick her up. I asked if there was a way we could make this work and she went to get the manager. He came out and we went over it again with him verifying and agreeing with everything she said. I told them I had a history of seizures and other issues and that she is a response dog and not an alert dog so does not always have to be right there, but if my stress or pain was too high that I needed to have her with me in case something started and she could help treat it. He remained adamant so I asked if she could at least sit in the doorway or hallway and they said no, but that I could come back some other time without my dog. I asked if I could at least get my deposit back. He told me it's non-refundable. I explained that I'm not the one wanting to cancel my appointment and that they were already denying me entry despite the law that says they can't. They then went inside together to discuss it. While they were inside, the surrounding people chimed in with their opinions for and against, since they all got to hear everything. The manager came back out and announced (then looked around at everyone) "that they don't normally do this, but he guesses my health is worth more than them making $60" and gave me back my money. Then told me when I visited the state again to come to them and not to Elite Ink. I went back to my hotel and had an anxiety attack. Once I calmed down I looked up SC DHEC and it says clearly that guard and service dogs are the exception to the "no animals rule". The confrontation and anxiety attack lead to 3 days of full body pain while driving back to Texas and a week later I'm still stressed and hurting over it all. read more

I went in here to do a simple tattoo which I thought would be impossible to mess up... Boy was I wrong. I wanted a simple shading (smoke like) to applied around the lettering on my chest. I took in a picture of exactly what I wanted, but instead of a light gray shading, he filled in the area around it with nearly full black!! I have included a picture of what I showed him and what he tattooed on me. I'm currently rubbing Vaseline on it in hopes that it will draw out the ink and looking into bleaching creams, unfortunately I've heard these have adverse side effects. Loved going to Aces High for my 3rd tattoo, but my first in the local area. Adam did myself and my boyfriend's tattoos - was exceptionally friendly, funny, and personable. Didn't make a fuss at all over the stencils being placed 3 or 4 times on each of us to get the placement just right (I've been to an artist before who made me feel like I was inconveniencing him with this!). Though our tattoos were pretty straightforward and only black in colour, the design is all angular with long, straight lines, which of course the slightest imperfections or wiggly line would be noticeable. Nope. He did it perfectly, and the tattoos healed just as perfectly when the shop's directions were followed to the letter. I may not be a local, but I'm definitely going to be going back on my next trip to the area! (Also, I know tattoo shops don't like you to shop around, but the price for our tattoos was definitely reasonable and what I'd expect - $80 each - while another shop in the same strip wanted a whopping $200 each! Hello friends!!! Act 1. We came here a few weeks ago. After doing my Yelpsearch on some tattoo shops. I noticed the location for more than 5 shops in the same area. (It was a Tuesday, which was my birthday. And for that reason alone I fell like some places my observe it as a holiday). The guy ("J".... the Poe Fan) that answered the phone seemed up beat. I told him I just got married & my birthday is today. We would like to come in & get inked. He simply replied, "Awwww, sweet! Congrats. Come on in & I'll hook you up"! Act 3. After traveling 30 minutes, we made a LEFT onto the side street. GPS says its on the left. Well, it's in a business strip mall. And ALL the business's were You guest it, TATTOO SHOPS. Cool, no worries. Walked in, did a little vibe-test. Looking around & seen ut was very clean, lisence on ghe wall, etc. After a few sports talk minutes. He was OK with me.
