Spoke with representative Steff and explained that I had a hard thick glaze of creosote that had ignited in the chimney the previous day. Steff, who was pleasant and professional during our conversation, said she would try to get a technician to my home today. I was quoted a price for the job which was fair and reasonable. Thirty minutes later, a Kiwi utility truck entered my driveway. Technicians Gabe and Regan introduced themselves and I gave them an overview of my woodstove and chimney. They wasted no time and immediately went to work. They thoroughly cleaned the chimney and removed all the glazed creosote; they went on to clean the stove, stove pipe, chimney cap and screen. A thorough inspection was performed, and I was happy to hear the clay flue was in good shape. Upon completion of the job, they vacuumed the area around my stove and cleaned up loose debris from outside. These two gentlemen did a great job and where very personable, knowledgeable. Gabe was at the ready with information on products currently on the market for upgrades and equipment that enhanced safety of wood burning stoves and chimney liners. This afternoon, I received an email from Gabe with my inspection report and before and after photos. What an absolute satisfying experience from start to finish with Kiwi. I highly recommend this company for your chimney service needs. OUTSTANDING WORK! Thanks Steff, Gabe and Regan.

A day…read morebefore the appointment, I received a call from their service department verifying the appointment time and that they were coming to CLEAN my wood stove. I corrected her and stated that I only need a gasket replaced. She said she wold make a note of that. Next day, Marco shows up and reiterates that he is there to clean the wood stove. Again, I corrected him and stated that I clean my own stove and that I just need the gaskets looked at and replace the ones that need it. He stated that hid notes were for a cleaning but he would just replace the gaskets that need it. He only needed to replace one, the damper gasket, which is about a 10" piece. He was there 20 minutes. He said to wait a few hours before using the damper so the glue can dry properly. Since it was only September and wouldn't need the drive for a couple months, I told him I'll wait a few days. Marco said the service call cost $299 because he was there for a cleaning and his time there was up to 1 1/2 hours. I reluctantly paid him $300 for a piece of gasket 10" long and that took him 20 minutes to install (I know I'm an idiot). A few days later, I go to check on the damper gasket and I can't move the damper at all. It was out of its bracket and I didn't know how to fix it and didn't think I should have to anyway. So I called the number cell number Marco had on his card and it went right to voicemail and the voicemail box was full. I called Higgins service and told them the situation. They made another appointment for Marco to come back about a week later. He comes back and takes about 5 minutes to put the damper back in the bracket. Then he says the charge will be $99 for having to come back. I told him there was no way I was paying again. He then says that the damper was working properly when he left the first time (calling me a liar) and that he will take the hit on it this time, but in the future, I will have to pay the charge. I won't be an idiot a second time. There will never be a next time!!! Update: Upon starting the stove for the first time this year, the damper was still not working correctly. Took me about 10 minutes to figure out that one side was not seated correctly. Unbelievable!!!

He installed a chimney liner and replaced the cap at a price that was lower than I expected, he was absolutely meticulous about keeping everything clean, and he was incredibly patient about answering all my questions. I'm a first time homeowner who's never had a chimney before - he really helped educate me and I appreciated that. Here's the really amazing part, though: after he installed the chimney liner and cap, about a week later, one of our three carbon monoxide detectors went off. It was an old one and even though I knew it was probably just malfunctioning because the other two showed no danger, I was nervous and since we'd just had chimney work done I wanted to make sure there was no issue with gas venting into the house. So I called Erwin and explained my issue. He happened to be in the area so he came over immediately. He checked everything, verified the chimney was drawing in air properly (and even showed me the trick for how to check it myself using a match) and gave me the peace of mind of knowing that nothing was wrong. He didn't even charge me for coming over the second time. A truly nice man who cares about people and knows what he's doing.
