Early back in March 2025, we booked our vehicles through economybook.com and arranged for a car via "Drivo/Ace rent a car" at this East Elmhurst location (August 8th). We encountered several problems with the cars that were assigned to us, particularly regarding the billing when we returned the vehicle. There were issues with the charges. After reaching out for assistance, we finally connected with Carolina M, who was able to resolve the issues. A big thank you to Carolina M for her attentiveness and for effectively addressing our concerns. 0 stars! Do not use this company! They will put your safety and wellbeing at risk!! I rented a car from them Friday morning to take a trip out of nyc. A few hours later I became aware that there was a problem with one of the tires, it was leaking air and going flat. I then noticed holes in the sidewall of the tire. I immediately called and was asked to bring the car back, being hours away and 3 faulty tires that was not possible. I was then told that they cannot help me and that I should just pay for new ones. Being hours from home and from my destination I had no choice but to put new tires on. At the maintenance shop they noticed that not only was there holes in the front tire but the rear two tires were bald with cords of the tires exposed! This is a serious safety hazard and put my safety at risk! The tire easily could have exploded on the interstate. This type of damage only comes from prolonged negligence to providing proper maintenance to the vehicle. Customer service was no help repeatedly telling me there was nothing g they could do and showing 0 sympathy, care, or any concern. When returning the car I asked for a refund for the tires I paid for and a full refund for providing me with a car that was not safe to drive. They in turn deny fault and refuse any refund including for the tires that I paid for. I was sent a return summary that states all tires pass their inspection when I dropped the car off however the rear driver tire (4th photo) was still bald! Again showing that they do not provide proper maintenance or safety check. They likely have already rented the car out with the same bald tire on it. All I asked was for a refund to make this right and they refuse stating they gave the car to me in better quality but being unable to provide proof. There is no way possible to create wear damage this severe in a days let alone a few hours from when the car was picked up to the first notice to the company of a problem. Awful company read more

This place is janky. That really is the best descriptor. It's cramped and oddly situated. The place is humid with no A/C and I got bit by a mosquito. The bathroom isn't clean. The folks behind the counter are not helpful. There were 4 people behind the counter but only one was checking folks in/out. I got there with no one in line--I thought it would be an in/out situation. 40 minutes later...! They try to upsell you with their extras. But when I declined because I had insurance, they made me go through some QR scanning rigamarole. After I jumped through all the hoops to connect their sketchy service to verify my insurance, it lied snd claimed I wasn't covered! I travel almost every other weekend. I'm well aware that my insurance covers rentals! The guy at the desk said I had to call the company to verify. I did but when I tried to get him to speak with her he decided it was fine. Why did I have to go through all that then??! Also they have geofencing that tracks the car. If you go outside of a certain area you get charged. I didn't care because I was in area. However, that should be disclosed on the website before you rent the car. It should also be disclosed that this is no longer ACE (which I've dealt with before) this is Drivo (which I've never heard of). The car itself had issues. First of all it wasn't entirely clean from the previous driver. I didn't notice until I opened the front passenger door. Also, there were mechanical problems: from the driver's seat I could roll down all four windows with the driver side power buttons. But rolling up the passenger side front window and rear window required having to go to those windows to roll them up individually--which was a pain. I took video, but I think yelp only allows you to upload still pictures. read more

When asking where the shuttle is EVERYONE told us we have to call and they rarely come on time, this location has a reputation. Everyone says they're not good at all. After waiting 30 minutes we took an uber to the rental place only to be denied. They swiped our car to only tell us they don't accept it because of the bank BUT they took my deposit. This is the same card we booked the rental with and PAID the deposit. I wanna mention that again because they'll take your $300 deposit and all of a sudden you show up to this location and all of sudden they don't accept THE SAME CARD WE BOOKED with. After calling Ace customer care to deal with this we are told that basically each location operates as is. After paying all this we had to go and rent a car from ENTERPRISE/ALAMO/NATIONAL. The manager here is not helpful at all, he will basically shrug his shoulders at you THIS IS NOT ACE THEY'RE A 3RD PARTY THAT WORKS WITH ACE. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID read more

I booked my trip in early April for mid-June. Paid $395 through Hotwire and then nothing--no email confirmation, no call, not a sound. My trip is arriving and I start to panic thinking I didn't book the car. I had to look up the charge and call Hotwire to send me a confirmation code and instructions. When I arrived, the reservation was there, but the representative said that I hadn't filled out the insurance, and because of that, I needed to pay an additional $200. The representative helped me bring down the price, but it still stands that I was never emailed about the insurance. If I were, I would have filled it out and never been charged. Do not rent a car here! We waited 90 minutes in line! There were only 4 people ahead of us and only one agent at the desk! Everyone of those 4 people were complaining how long they were waiting! Finally got a car and the interior of the back lift gate was all broken and separated. There were no other cars available- so they told us to take it and they would give us a very generous discount when we returned it. Well - this back door rattled very heavily and loud and would not close properly. It was awful driving it for over a week! Upon returning - we saw so many people in line to rent - the line was out the door! Everyone looked pissed - like they were waiting for hours. Thank goodness we didn't have to wait on that line to return the car. The return agent noted the door issue and also promised a nice discount - which we will receive by email. Total lie - they never sent an email and I had to call to beg for a discount. Got a whopping 10% off - which was a slap in the face for such a crappy broken car. On another note - the people that worked there were polite and nice. The shuttle drivers were excellent. It's not their fault. Please do yourself a favor and rent elsewhere - even it's more money - you'll thank me. read more

I had a confirmed reservation, with an 8 page contract. In the contract it said "maximum age 80". After a 10 hour flight, I arrived at the rental car to be told that I was "too old" (I just turned 80). I offered to put the rental in my husband's name (he is 69) and the agent refused. We finally got a car through Thrifty after 3 hours and an additional $450. I ride a Harley and have an International Driver's License. Unreal. read more

Imagine reserving and paying for a rental car then going to pick it up only to be refused at the counter by a snotty customer service agent who claimed that running a credit check is their policy. My excellent credit rating is not their business. (According to the credit card company that I used for the reservation, this information is only necessary when an individual is looking to increase their line of credit.) The two star is for a very specific reason, but not a reflection of the front desk staff. The front desk staff was reasonable and courteous. Yes, the wait was a bit long, but that was expected as people often did not have their files ready. This location asked for insurance information page, which was surprising even to my insurance agent. Many customers were on the call and I suspect they were all on the phone for the information page. The vehicle was nice to drive, smelled a bit like marijuana when we first picked it up. The front desk staff was nice to talk to and helpful. Now, the reason. About 2 hour after we got out of NYC's traffic, the tire pressure warning gave us a 26 on the right rear tire and the tire was discernably flat. That was concerning for sure as we had to get somewhere the same night and that was already later than 8:00 pm. We called and was told to get a store to fix the tire in a place that was completely strange to us. No sympathy or help, simply we, the customer, was responsible for a capital investment in their vehicle. That was a one day rental and we return the vehicle the next day, basically, if the tire were damaged, we would be spending all the money to get a vehicle only to fix its tire and not getting to our destination and return it the next day. They insisted that they inflated the tire before pickup. They even promised to send me the photo of the tire pressure at the time of pickup, which never showed up in my email. Luckily, we found a place to inflate the tire and the tire never showed any warning after inflation for the rest of the trip. This really refuted their claim of properly inflating the tire before pickup. No tire, if functioning, would drop pressure that fast from 30+ psi to 26 if the tire were checked and inflated 2 hour before. Our conclusion was that they failed to maintain proper tire pressure. read more

Worst rental company out there!! When you arrive they tell you that you that to use your own insurance you need to bring the declaration page from your policy. Who carries that?? in other words they want you to buy their insurance. So they give you this cheap price to draw you in and then get you with the insurance when you get to the desk. I reserved a full-size SUV (Tahoe or Yukon) but was given a midsize Chevy Traverse instead. I spoke with the supervisor at that location, who assured me I would receive a 20% discount upon returning the vehicle. My wife found this rental service location via Travelocity. We booked it three months in advance and the price was reasonable around $200 from Sunday 10:00 am - Tuesday 10:00am. The location was easy to get to from where we live. Now, yes given we went to pick up the car the day before Memorial Day (Sunday) but wow! The wait to check in was terrible! There was only about 8 people ahead of us on line, but it took about an hour of waiting, even though we were fully booked for a reservation. Only two people checking people in, and one girl sitting at the parking desk not doing anything. Okay they seemed understaffed. When we got close to finally checking in, the line got ridiculous and there were people all over the place, the line out the door trying to get their reservations. I understand they may have been overwhelmed but this wasn't the worst part. We were told they would extend our return drop off an hour later due to the long wait. And if we don't return the car on time; we will be charged for a full day. Basically if you pick a pick up time of 10:00am, they expect a return by 10:00am the following day; or it's an additional charge, out of all the times I've rented cars this was a first. I've never been charged a full day for returning a car a couple hours over 24 hours. Whatever we were supposed to return it at 11:30am or we will be charged an extra day, yeah we'll probably take the additional charge, right? The worst worst part was when we were on the road coming back and on our way to return the rental, we get a phone call which I couldn't answer, and minutes later a text saying if we don't return the car or call back they will report the car to the police as stolen. Absolutely ridiculous and threatening text was sent an hour and a few minutes after the scheduled drop off time. We were fine with paying the extra money for returning it late. But to send a text message like that, is uncalled for. Granted it's an automatic message. But that is absolutely ridiculous, for only an hour after the return time, I get if it's late in the day or the next day even. We wound up returning the car around 3pm cause I did speak to someone after the text message, so we will be charged another full day for not returning at 11:30, so paying a full day for an extra 3+ hours, is understandable but also a new experience for me for renting a car. Needless to say, I will not be using this location any longer, especially after recently learning of a zip car location close to me. The car itself was a good condition and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is well kept. But the process, the organization, the policies, the threatening message, the ridiculous 24 hour on the dot return policy, these are cons that overlook any staff friendliness or inexpensive prices. read more
