Even though Ace rejected my booking that I prepaid for online because of a "credit check", I have to give major credit to James for how he handled the situation with helping me find another company that was open that late and calling them to book a rental for me. He went above and beyond to help me out when I felt stuck and frustrated at almost 12 midnight not knowing how I'd make it home. His professionalism, patience, and willingness to assist, even when the decision wasn't in his hands really stood out. I will not recommend ACE car rental. I My experience with was terrible. I booked my rental through Expedia for four days. My flight was delayed for 1.5 hour. I got to LGA and called for a shuttle. The customer service representative was very rude. Told me my reservation was cancelled since I was not on time. He said the office was closed and I must wait until 6:30, and they will not be able to accommodate me then. He then hung up the phone on me. I prepaid for my vehicle and I came later and they said they had no vehicles. I had to wait over 45 minutes. And I was told that it was a waitlist even though I prepaid. I was told that if I came the time I should've they had cars available. I said it doesn't matter if I prepaid you leave the car. Then they do a soft credit check if your license is from NYC EVEN if you have a credit card which you should have that advertised on a third party booking like Priceline. Then the bathroom at the site had no soap for the bathroom or toilet tissue. I had to ask. The experience was too much for regular cars that were old and needed maintenance read more

I had reservations for 1:30pm at this place and I came in at 210pm. Went to the counter and for the first time asked to do a l soft credit report because my drivers license wasn't an out of state license. I've always rented cars in NY whenever I'm in town and I've never and I mean NEVER had anyone check my credit report. Whatever, I was hesitant but gave in and that should have been a red flag but ok whatever. Next he proceeds to tell me that I can only go to certain states but if I surpassed those states then I would have to pay extra mind you even though I paid for unlimited miles. I Iaughed at this point but was like ok weird but ok. Then and the final bullshit they didn't have a car available. That's when I lost it. He explains I was tardy and that there won't be a car until 3pm. My husband has to be at a place by 3pm and now due to their inability and shady tactics he will miss this event he has to be in. They want to charge me extra fee for an upgrade because they didn't have a car available. They told me they only had SUVS OR MINI VAN. I spoke to the manager who is also incompetent with his duties and refused to provide a better experience and a solution to this situation. Instead made it worse. I have the utmost and strongest suspicion that they didn't even have a car if I had come in by 130pm. I tried calling corporate but because it's closed they're not open until Monday. Best believe I will call customer service about this horrible experience here. Please avoid at all cost this location. Don't try to save a buck or two as you will end up spending much more. I would give it zero stars don't come here. Update it's now 3:32 and still no car. read more

Horrible Experience! We had rented a vehicle for 7 days at the LGA airport 2 weeks ago. At the time of pick up for the car, even though my husband had told them we had our own car insurance, with the hard copy of our insurance in his hands, they still made him signed a contract and charged $391.51 without informing him that it was for purchasing their insurance. After we both made numerous calls to correct their wrongdoing, it was to avail. When I finally got to speak with the supervisor today, he stated the camera footage reported that we did not provide our car insurance and went as far to say that they do not have time to check our insurance at the counter! When I was asking why the customer had to pay for the agent's misconduct for not taking the customer's insurance, completely neglecting the customer's verbal statement of having their own insurance, he said that my husband did not tell them we had our own insurance and hung up on me while I was still talking. Now I understand why on the day we picked up the car, there was another customer who walked up to the counter and exclaimed, "This is a scam!" although I don't know what happened to him. P.S. Good luck to whoever rents the same car after us. There was a Vehicle Alert on that warned of High Engine Coolant Temperature, but their tech report showed that the car had no issue even after we reported this to them. read more

The car that I rented needed bricks smelled like smoke and when I returned the rental this company charges for an additional driver, even though it was my wife. I have never been charged for an additional driver when it is my wife from any other car company I do not recommend this rental company regardless of the cost. read more

This place has the worst customer service EVER! The convenience is the ONLY reason I come here. They FORCE the insurance down your throat and if you don't swallow they give all type of issues for your reservation. This time and the time before I delt with a gentleman by the name of Jalol. I've never met a man so rude in my life! As I approached him I said, "good evening" he looked at me and said, "license and credit card." His face was very serious and stoic. We proceeded with the transaction, he then told me my reservation was canceled and he had to make another reservation. I told him in advance " I DID NOT" want the insurance. Once he was done booking my new reservation he tells me that the total is 660 with the insurance and he is unable to take the insurance off. I would have to step to the side and book a new reservation. No problem, simple. Nope once I was finished booking he told me I had to wait 2 hours for the booking to appear in their system. As I srltood there I heard customer after customer complain. One young lady was crying because the same gentleman, Jalol, refused to rent to her because of the insurance yet again. Just ridiculous! To make matters worse he initially refused to give me his name. He took his name tag off and places it in his pocket. As him and his co workers spoke in another language as im asking for his name. We booked our reservation though Travelocity for memorial weekend from Sunday-Tuesday. Upon arrival even w a reservation we had to wait on the line.. the lobby inside is not very big & it got crowded very quickly with the line forming out the door. They had only 2 people checking u in, didn't help that there seemed to be no real order as after checking in more than a few people would pop back in to the front of the line this of course delayed everything even more we were on line for an hour & another 10-15 minutes later waiting for the car to be ready, it was a holiday weekend & they were clearly under staffed. 1 other person at the "parking counter" who wasn't really doing much? Still don't understand why she wasn't helping with the overflow of people checking in. Our rsvp was from 9am to 9am since checking in took so long they extended the rental by an hour & did tell us that if it wasn't returned on time that we would be charged the extra time which was whatever. On our way back my hubby got a text from the rental saying they tried to reach him but couldn't so if the car was not returned that it would be reported to the policy for non authorize use .. this was an hour later from the time we were supposed to return the car. It's an Automated text ok fine but really why so hostile? We get it but honestly completely uncalled not like they literally don't have all your info on file. We called & told them we were going to arrive late & we were 3 hours later from our initial time but to charge u for an additional day for 3 hours extra is ridiculous. Never had such an unpleasant experience with a car rental. We booked this initially because the price was decent not worth it as in the end it went from about $200 to $415. We will definitely not be using these guys again not worth the aggravation. The 2 stars is for the service, the staff was nice, car was decent, clean. read more

This was a horrible experience. Drivo/Ace rent a car" at this East Elmhurst location (August 21th). Avoid. The shuttle from Le Guardia airport took at least 1 hour. I was 2 hours late arriving at the Ace location (since they must have very few shuttles) but also because because I flew in during a hurricane. They told me the reservation was cancelled. Thank god I has in communication with Hotwire who I had made the reservation with who told me the reservation was for 24 hours. Had to log into my insurance on their computer screen even though I had my insurance confirmation. The man said he could not accept it.... no reason. Finally, spoke to a woman, who knows if she was the manager or not, telling her I had hotwire on the phone. And out of the blue she told me she would honor my reservation. I think the man on the phone influenced her. Two people in front of me did not get cars. REALLY A NIGHTMARE. AVOID AT ALL COST. I told Hotwire never to use this company. Quite possibly the worst car rental agency I've ever dealt with. I've rented all across the US, Mexico, Costa Rica and Europe and never have I been treated so rudely. I should have known when the customer in front of me got so frustrated, he and his wife walked out angrily. They do not honor the price quoted on Travelocity and constantly try to add hidden charges. I brought my insurance card and policy with me to prove insurance (I do not give out my login or password--which is what they want). They wouldn't use this and still tried to charge me daily insurance. Even worse, the agent found it more important to argue with me rather than try actual customer service. Signed off on tablet with no visual. I was a little wary and should've asked for a print out. Corporate even stood with their management so forget trying to get a refund. Terrible service. Constantly trying to scam people in every possible way. Their strategy is to price low and scam you with upsells on insurance that you don't need. The car I got only had 3/4 of a tank left. I returned the car with more gas than that, yet they charged me to fill up the tank. In the end, it's just not worth the mental stress and anger of being scammed. I recommend people read the many one-star reviews. Yelp, you might want to double-check the way they force people to submit reviews on the spot for a 15% discount. It is clearly against any policy. A car rental facility with no cars available when they allowed you to reserve one. No courtesy call to let us know they screwed us over. We wasted fare to get there only to be left stranded. They don't always answer their phone calls and will offer no comps for their screw up. Enterprise/Alamo/National car rental is down the street from them. Go there instead.
