The empty shuttle lot where our AVIS shuttle should be.
    Freddy H.

I have just gotten off of a 3 hour flight anticipating waiting 10 minutes for my rental shuttle to AVIS rental from the airport. I have been outside for nearly 45 minutes now, and between my torn knee and this cold weather, myself and many other paying customers are upset. We were told after one shuttle was full that another would come quickly, but judging off of their time value this would be another 45 minutes. I am tired, $600 broker, and confused about this lackluster service. After making it to the kiosk, I have learned that this location is severely overworked and understaffed. There are two attendants who are accountable for nearly 50+ customers. The promise of the preferred line (which I am a member of) was reduced to us waiting 20 more minutes once inside. I realize that this is not an individual issue, but a structural issue. AVIS on Bowery needs to focus on having staff for the entire day, so a travesty like this won't ensue again.

Easily we dropped off our rental & got on a shuttle to the terminal. It was a very quiet, easy morning here. Happily our 2025 Chevy was a pleasure.

Sweet ride for the weekend with family!

On a recent trip to New York and flying in and out of LaGuardia, I rented a vehicle from Avis through Priceline. I was looking for a vehicle that accommodate 6 people with a good amount of luggage and a car seat. A mini van seemed like the way to go and the pricing was pretty reasonable. To get here, you have to catch a shuttle from baggage claim. The office is about a mile from the airport. There was quite a long wait for the shuttle on the day we arrived as well as when I dropped off and needed the shuttle back to the airport. Luckily I was the first one off the shuttle on pick up day or else the wait would've been long to get checked out. Customer service was good at pick up and there was barely any interaction on drop off. I didn't even ever get a receipt after drop off. The vehicle itself was on the older side and had lots of wear and tear. Avis in my experience usually has a newer fleet of vehicles. There was a handful of scratches and dents so I made sure to take lots of pics before riding off the lot. I miss the days when someone would do a walk around with you before leaving. Inside the vehicle was not the standard of clean I am used to with Avis. There was dog hairs all over, smelled like smoke, and the windows were super streaky. When the car idled, it felt like it was going to shut off a few times. In New York traffic, that isn't the most safe feeling to have. At the end of the day, the vehicle did it's job. I have never had bad experiences with Avis, so I'm thinking it's just this location because of how busy it is. Their fleet is huge and I just probably got the one janky vehicle that's been through some adventures. I won't write the company off, but I will look at other companies when flying into New York.

Avis rented two dirty cars to me, this was the second one after I rejected the first one.

Flew in late to LaGuardia. It took over 20 minutes for an Avis shuttle to show up. Then, once there at Avis, I had to wait in another line. When I finally got my car, no one went over the car with me like an inspection and I had to find it myself in the lot. It was so dirty, obviously it had not been serviced, I brought it back. I had to wait again, I was given another car and it too had not been serviced. I was too exhausted from traveling all day to try for a third a car. Using AVIS was a terrible experience for me.

Just horrible in line for a hour waiting to pick up my rental car... they have two people behind the counter and a line out the door... this is ridiculous

If I could give them a -5 stars I would. Avis rental at LaGuardia Airport is the WORST!! It's 1:22am and they literally have one person working the counter and the line is out the door! The one person working spends 40min per person. This guy has actually been at the counter for 43 minutes!!! WTF - Unbelievably ridiculous!! Update: it's 2:00am and I'm still in line. Now she assigned two totally different people the same car. So the lady on the right is back at the counter waiting on another car!!! I arrived here at 12:33am and I am still in line and it's now 2:31am.

Terrible experience at LaGuardia Airport. The line is out the door, and there are only two employees working. Meanwhile, there's a separate "Preferred" counter where an employee is just standing around doing absolutely nothing--not helping a single customer. People are frustrated and upset, and the situation is completely mismanaged. How can they be out of cars and still understaffed? Total chaos.

If I could give zero stars I would. We arrived at 11:45 pm and when we arrived there was a line out the door. It took a hours for us to get a car. They only have two people working. I would hate to see how slow and packed this place is midday during peak travel times.

    Now 1.5 hours later...

The fact that they were not surly by default, thanks to Budget org's apparently indifferent management, is a tribute to innate good nature. Because prior reviews about persistent understaffing are accurate. We didn't hit excessive lines the three times we entered this weekend (15-20 min wait) but Fast Track was NOT an option at all twice due to single staffer. And at this locale, Fast Track requires checking in at the desk. So no speedy, desk-free pickup anyway-- allow for min 20 min (and up to 2 hours during holidays) for pickup. Management must set office temp at bare minimum -- it was miserably cold inside and out for those poor workers yet they were still professional. Cons: TEST KEY FUNCTIONS (lights / heat / wipers / syncing) BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE LOT. Also, per other reviews, TAKE PHOTOS OF MILEAGE / FUEL / CONDITION & CLEANLINESS. Understaffing means cars are not serviced & prepped adequately when busy -- which is always! First car we were given had NO wiper fluid as we belatedly discovered after an hour. Only to find wiper nozzles clogged & not working. Returned and car also had zero fluid at pickup. The car being picked up next to us had zero gas and wouldn't even start. Both cars had dirty side windows & side mirrors, and large smudges on windshield, creating poor visibility. They're just too understaffed for details like that. And these are niche tips, but... If renting during a freeze, be aware that most SUV models in stock have in-arm nozzles and those were frozen solid in both models we were given, even after new fluid added to reservoir. Took over an hour with heat/defrost on high to get front fluid to barely spritz and rear never defrosted. Critical issue for safe highway driving in stormy weather. Also, Apple CarPlay only worked with cable (not Bluetooth) in our 2025 Telluride model after much troubleshooting by tech savvy driver. Not sure if fault with model or just its default (most videos suggested it) but if using iPhone be sure to carry a USB-enabled cable, just in case. Kia Telluride did seem roomier (passenger legroom and trunk when seats down) than Mazda CX90, but the Mazda had fancier & easier to use media displays. If that helps when choosing.

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND RUDE REPS ALMOST LEAD TO A BRAWL AT THIS LOCATION!…read more Here you can expect long wait times and poor to no service at all! Read on.... I arrived an hour prior to my reservation pick-up scheduled for 11:00am on Sunday. Upon arriving, the line extended to the sidewalk outside, and only grew as shuttle buses dropped off people from the airport. There are two lines at this location, fast break and regular. The fast break line was virtually empty until I finally neared the counter at which point a shuttle was dropped off and the fast break line grew to about 4 customers, while the regular line continued to extend into the parking lot. The counter is severely understaffed and untrained. When the shuttle arrived tensions flared because there was no place for people to go and not one staff member ever intervened or addressed how to best form the line (granted at this point there is only one person at the desk because the other person left for over 30 minutes). I was next in line and the fast break line was the only line being addressed, and the rep refused to make eye contact with me to let me know it would be a moment or I would be next). I understand they get to bump ahead but even addressing each line every other turn would still honor their priority over waiting long periods of time. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION. SERIOUS STAFF TRAINING NEEDED.

I have observed a systematic pattern where high-end vehicles are removed from the designated member zone and restricted exclusively to paid 'Upgrades.' In my previous visits, I have confirmed that instead of placing high-end vehicles in the President's Circle area, this location consistently stocks only low-end, economic vehicles in that zone, while higher-category inventory is hidden to force additional sales at the counter. I have visited several times just to observe, and seeing that my status is not respected, I have chosen to rent with Avis, where I am also a President's Club member. It is regrettable that you would rather lose valuable customers than stop manipulating prices to force paid 'Upgrades.' Furthermore, the quality of service is inconsistent and heavily dependent on the staff on duty; the treatment and transparency are noticeably better during the morning hours. I am not asking for a favor--I am demanding that you properly stock the President's Circle area with appropriate, high-end vehicles and stop the practice of withholding them. I expect this location to honor the loyalty benefits of the program.
