The rental portion was just what we needed, but a day after dropping the car off, one of our passengers seemed to recall leaving an item in the car. Nila helped us out a great deal by searching to both find our dropped off car again and find the left behind item!! I can't thank Nila and the team enough. Great crew! read more

This place is horrible.!! Horrible cars horrible customer service. Car's windshield was cracked on driver side in my line of site . No front license plate and we got pulled over .! Windshield wipers were rotten . And rained the whole time we were there . Windshield was was so water spotted couldn't see crap .! All four tires were passed the wear bars . The car was still dirty inside. Waited an hour and a half when we returned it for the manager with our little kids at 11 at night . Nothing got resolved he said call corporate. This was my first time using Avis. The app was good and told me I could go straight to my car to pick it up. But then when I hit the button that said "Pick Up Car" it told me I'd have to verify my identity in the "Avis Preferred line." That line had a 45-minute wait, which caused me to be really late to work. When I finally got my car, it had a spilled container of ketchup in the passenger side door. It was hard for me to find where to complain about this in the app, so I was on the phone for 15 minutes before I could talk to anyone. Finally, there were so many fees I hadn't expected when I returned the car. Avoid this Avis. read more

Customer service was terrible, I would never book through Priceline neither with them also, I return my car early, did not get credit for the time not iused, lost all my money, back and forth blaming game, they hang up the phone when I told them I was going to call bbb, and file a complaint, I had a better experience with ace rental car service. read more

After getting our reservation cancelled from Alamo they day of my reservation I was in dire need for a car. I ran over to hertz with no luck and budget had an insane line. Enter My hero my savior John who works at the rental counter at Avis. I had no reservation but they got me a great car and a great deal. The line was not long the service was great and the car was clean and sleek looking. Thank you John and Avis you guys saved my trip and during these difficult time you still manage to have a great attitude! I will be returning here for every time I need a rental car! read more

Don't usually write reviews, but Joseph (and the entire team) at this location were absolutely terrific to work with. First, there was a little bit of a line, and instead of being stressed out, Joseph was calm, and nice to everybody. He even offered umbrellas to people as they went out to their car (clearly was going above and beyond). All AVIS rental car places are pretty similar. The cars don't change, but the people working at them do. Def. recommend renting from this one. read more

Avis. Here is what to expect at LGA: 1) Friendly people 2) Slow checkout process. I'm more used to "hand em the contract and my license and I'm out." Here, the car had to be walked around and 3) Shuttle delays. 4) Clean decent car like any other Avis. 5) Little bit of a rough area. Probably don't get frustrated waiting for the shuttle and make the 8 minute walk from the airport alone...at night... Once you leave, you have to navigate New York. I'd suggest NOT stopping at the 7Eleven across the street to get your bearings. Otherwise, solid 3 star experience. I'll be back next week and the week after and the week after... read more

No customer courtesy as far as return rates. I was charged 2 days full day rate. I only used it 1 full day and 1 hour

Do not and I repeat do not rent a car from them. Their cars are all damaged. I rented a Ford Expedition and the tires were all bald. Look a the pictures below. They offered me 50 dollars and told me there was nothing they could do. The car drove funny and didn't have have the ability to break well. It shook over 50 miles per hour. What a dangerous car. Never ever rent from this location. I made a second mistake. See next review. read more

The Uvalde Police department of car rental companies. Avis is basically at the bottom of the tier of the not-good-at-all but still not just renting a cardboard box with wheels class of car rental places. Like, you know the car is going to be bad, somehow unclean, physically damaged, or somehow dramatically different than what you ordered, but at least they're not going to ask you to deliver meth on your way. That's all Avis really has going for them is the upside of not being worse in a way that you know actually exists in sketchier places. This particular Avis though is completely useless in a way that's not just regular annoying, but is dangerous. My wife was in an accident in an Avis vehicle out of state. Everyone was fine. Everything was insured. But the car was damaged, and had to be towed, and New York has a strict time limit in which you have to turn over paperwork to the DMV or else you can lose your New York driving privileges. Well there's information that only Avis has (VIN number etc) that's needed for this paperwork. That's where things went down that extra step Avis is supposed to be clinging to. No one answers the phone at this location. Ever. No matter who is calling. If you call the number, you get routed to the Avis national call center. They told us explicitly that the LaGuardia Avis branch can, should, and will be handling the paperwork. We asked them to please call and get a confirmation only to find out that they couldn't get a single person on the phone from the LaGuardia branch... for weeks. No one at this branch would respond to a phone call, or email. I held a customer service manager on the phone for about 2 hours and this guy couldn't even get LaGuardia to answer a phone call. They eventually put us in touch with a regional manager who still couldn't get them to acknowledge an email or phone call. Like... what do you even do for a job where you're the "regional manager" and you've clearly never even spoken to your single most high profile branch. What are you even doing for 8 hours a day? I don't know how a national corporation can design itself to have a single branch (a pretty important one at that) just be able to isolate itself from responsibility like that just by consciously choosing not do work, but they did it. And Avis and everyone who is supposed to be managing them has just shrugged off that they've seceded from the company. To the surprise of no one, the LaGuardia Avis laid and egg and never submitted the paperwork to the DMV. My wife's New York driving privileges were revoked which she needed for work, AND... in case you didn't know, Massachusetts will order a reciprocal suspension if you lose your license for any reason in New York since it's a sister state. So not only did she lose her license in two states but having a suspended license on your record impacts her insurance and mine for YEARS. Altogether it took a form and a phone call to get the NY suspension lifted. It was a wildly unimpressive amount of work that Avis just did not care one iota about doing. They're useless and criminally so. Their customer service reps don't have any training. Their managers, verifiably, don't even manage anybody. And the LaGuardia office is filled with the most pathetic helpless people on god's earth. I didn't even rent a car there and so will be literally paying for their stupidity for years. read more

What a horrible experience....The staff was not helpful and my rental was filthy. There is NO way that the car was cleaned before I rented it. There was empty water bottles, dog hair and slobber ALL over the windows. I left something in the car and realized when I got home I left it in the back seat. I called and spoke to someone who stated she would send the item back and to follow up with her manager in the morning. When I called "Fred" , he refused to ship my item because he didn't have a box. I can't possibly be the only person to forget something in a car. If you do....I guess you say good bye forever. I was told I needed to come back to retrieve it and I am in Florida. I am beyond disgusted and will NEVER rent from Avis again!!!! Such a shame! read more

Supposedly, Avis was one of the more reliable car rental companies. Big surprise! When the car we rented sounded what sounded like a car alarm as we were driving in heavy traffic, we assumed it may be one of doors not securely closed, maybe the trunk. Because we were in heavy traffic, we couldn't put over immediately. Also we were not familiar with the car and couldn't find a cause for the alarm. Finally, worred that we were driving haphazardly, we found a place to pull over. The doors, trunks were ok, but big surprise -- the hood was not closed. Just closed lightly but not locked. If we were driving at a higher rate of speed, this would have opened on us. And Avis is not too concerned about our problem, as any attempt to reach them requires a customer number -- which is not to be found on their receipt. So I guess they just don't want to know. But warning to all other drivers -- Do not use Avis! read more

Doing a small trip with my mom, I had the idea of renting a car because I wanted to drive a small car again. The compact car a Ford Fiesta 2016 was given to me at a great discount, the agent over the phone gave me a Costco member discount. This location had nice service agents to help with the paperwork onsite. I took the insurance and road assistance service which I didn't have to use but peace of mind is worthy. The car had a few small scratches all around the car, the front, the sides, the back, and paint drop in it. I didn't mind the scratches at all, I don't care much for how things look on the outside, I care on how they are in the inside, performance, and reliability. The car drove and handled excellent ! I loved it ! one of the best tiny cars I ever drove. I felt like I was driving a toy car, I drove 546 miles. The steering wheel is tight and firm grab and ride feel, because the car is so small the road and lanes felt huge, total cost in gas $52.00. Driving with the GPS, back camera, and tuned to the Bluetooth with my playlist was an amazing time to drive all over. On the way back I drove in the snow and rain at night the car felt the same in safety and ride comfort. Avis has lower pricing to another place which quoted me $298.00 for the same car. read more

Bad bad bad. ARRIVAL I arrive to pick up vehicle and I'm told the rate has changed. I canceled the reservation and had to redo it to get my original rate back. The guy behind the counter was more busy gawking at the young lady next to me than actually attending me. DROP OFF I get to the drop off location and there were no waiting customers. 2 attendants look over at me then they walk away. I go inside and woman Rudely asks: "what do u want?" When I tell her no attendants outside she points outside and tells me I have to go outside. Still nobody. Eventually another attendant helps me. I tell her it's the dark Ford Focus I'm returning. She then proceeds to check in a silver Hyundai. I point to the correct car..... Again...she goes back to the silver car. At this point, i walk her over directly to the car and show her the car. Another couple arrived and was late 6 min late dropping off. They asked if they would be charged. They didn't get an answer then they walked outside. One they were outside.... I overheard the rude woman from before laugh and tell her co worker, "I don't care, I'm gonna charge them anyways". Wow 6 min late and being charged a whole day??? No wonder they have poor reviews. I rented a car from Avis through Travelocity. My experience upon arriving was awful. It was a freak snowstorm (Thursday 11/15/18 in NYC) I requested a car with bluetooth. The car they brought up didn't have blue tooth. Instead of bringing up another car, they gave me a list of a few cars that may have bluetooth. The catch is I had walk around the parking lot to look for the car in 4-5 inches of wet snow. They told me to bring the key back and they'd get the car. When I got back, with a car that had bluetooth, they assigned me a different car. It may have been an upgrade, I'm not sure. However, again, I had to go walk out in the driving snowstorm again to find the new car. Not only that, but I had to clean it off myself. To make matters I only cleaned off the windows, so the snow was still piled up on the rest of the car. As I was driving down the Grand Central parkway, 5 inches of snow slid down the front window covering the entire windshield. I had to stop 3 different times in the middle of the road to clean off the windshield. The snow was so wet and heavy, the wipers would not work. Not only did stopping in the middle of a parkway to clean off the windshield cause huge traffic stop, the car could have been hit, or worse, I could have been hit. After my complaint to Avis, they granted me a $50 credit towards a future rental. I never received it. When I followed up, I was told they sent it to an email address that was not mine. Since it was sent out, they are not able send another one. So that everyone is aware of what happened, I just was to say Avis sucks. Their customer service is the worst. read more

Avis? More like Anus. Every time I have picked up a car here there is sort of snafu that of course, they can "do nothing about." Order a convertible? They will give you a dirty Camaro that smells like a cow patty. Don't ever expect to get the car that you paid for, just whatever they decide to throw your way. Avis has always had terrible service, but this location is particularly bad. Just more proof that the market is begging for competition. I hope they start listening to their customers soon because they've lost this one. read more

Terrible customer service. Waited over two hours (between 12am and 3am). 20 ppl in line and 2 ppl working until one decides to leave her desk after helping two customers. I'm here Sunday evenings for the Avis preferred service and service is fast and friendly and I can always pick and choose different cars. If possible go to any other Avis location. In fact, take a train to Newark or pay an obnoxious premium to grab a car from Manhattan. Walk if you have to. Everything from the lack of customer service to the quality of vehicles and general lack of efficiency appalled me. We were once given a car with snow in the back seat. SNOW! This Avis is worst of all Avis. There is no info of where your car is even if you are a member. Cleanness is a foreign word, once I had vomit on side of my car. Maintenance means your rental car looks better shape than yellow cab. Shuttle is a joke - I highly recommend WALKING, esp for Delta Shuttle, I don't care what port authority cops warn you, walk to the terminal because buses never show up! And often time return agents are not working in the lot, so you'd have to write down all info, walk in the building, find counter, wait in line....oh is that my flight!? Exactly. But if you read my review and thin Avis @ LGA is worst, welcome to NYC, this is what you get no matter which rental car place you'd rent from. Didn't pay attention when checking the car in to me and entered the wrong mileage, resulting in a $3,900 charge for 17,000 miles when it was a 73 mile drive from New Haven to LGA. After dropping off the rented car I was running late for a 6pm flight - rather than let me take the usual shuttle bus (which meant transferring to a 2nd bus) a nice Avis guy jumped into another rental car & brought me straight to terminal B. Love this place! Living in NYC we don't own a car so we have happened to rent from many different places and Avis at La Guardia airport is without a doubt our favourite. Staff is very polite, efficient & friendly as well as knowledgeable and happy to help! We have never had any problems, or waiting time. In fact we have just returned our rental and were looked after by the same employee who rented our vehicle, his name is Joseph and I hope his manager gets to see this review, because Joseph was so helpful & courteous, his customer service skills are spot on! We are renting again this coming weekend and even though Avis is slightly more expensive than other companies, I can guarantee it's worth the extra dollars! read more

Tried to scam me out of $300 saying when I returned the car the key to the car was missing. After landing back in America, sorry I mean Dallas, TX I received a voicemail from the store manager at the LGA location flat out accusing me of having the key and telling me it would cost $300+ if I didn't come back and return it. Needless to say I felt great satisfaction when I called the manager to discus this and asked him where the car currently was. His reply was "The car is in our cleaning area where they go after they are returned by our customers." It was the exact answer I was looking for because it completely debunked Avis' assertion that they needed to charge me $300+ for a new key because as I explained to the manager that there would be no way his employees could have moved the car from where I left it in vehicle return, where I also turned it off, as the key would have needed to be in the cup holder where I left it for his employee to start the car and drive it (which I saw happen while boarding the bus to the gate area) to the cleaning area. The silence from the manager on the other end of the phone told me he knew their key scam wasn't going to work on this guy! Add'l now not only will I be taking pictures of the inside and outside of the car when I pick up and return it (especially in Northeast locations), but I'll also be taking a picture of the key in the cup holder when I leave the car. And to think they are doing this to an Avis preceded member, I can only imagine what they are trying to do to those who aren't preferred...? read more

We just returned from NY for a family wedding and the AVIS service needs to be improved at this airport. I'm giving it two stars vs one star only b/c of the LGA construction and giving the benefit of the doubt that some of the poor service could be attested to that. LGA is going thru a complete remodel. New buildings, new construction, new roads - everything. It's a nightmare there and so the rental car pickups have been moved to the Marina/Delta shuttle. So you take a bus from the baggage claim to the Marina/Delta Shuttle area where you then wait for your rental car bus to take you to the rental car area. Annoying, yes, but it's due to LGA construction. Well - we waited for 20 minutes on Friday afternoon for an AVIS bus. We did see an AVIS bus (who saw about 6-10 people waiting), but he didn't pull into our area. Enterprise and Hertz buses came three times before an AVIS bus came! After 20 minutes, I called the AVIS phone number and after 12 rings (kid you not), someone answered and I explained that we had been waiting for 20 minutes. She promised to send someone right away. We then got to the AVIS lot and the priority access screens in front were not working so we had to stand in line for 10 minutes to get our car. After we got our car and were leaving the lot, the person checking us out asked if our gas tank was full. We mentioned it was not, it was less than the "Full" dial. She looked in the car and said "oh that is full. It doesn't go further in this car." We questioned her again and she said she was sure. Imagine our surprise (not really) when we filled up the tank this morning and the dial went all the way to the Full position. Shocking! (sarcasm). Upon returning the car this Sunday morning, only one person was working outside checking people in. So, that took about 10-15 extra minutes. Thankfully, our flight was an hour away. Then, when he came to us, he said, his "device" was out of paper and he could not print a receipt. We would have to go inside for it. Not having the time, we said we had the price from the contract and we were fine. He took the contract and went to keep it but I said "no - I would like a bill of the car rental." He tore off the second sheet and handed it to us. Lo and behold, the second sheet was completely blank. I told him, I wanted the contract with actual printing on it. The issue was that his "device" wasn't printing, so he was writing down notes on the blank sheet of paper instead. If your "device" wasn't properly working, why would you come outside with it to check cars in? Is there not a properly working device inside? Just not a fan of AVIS and how everything was run. I would try a different car rental place if I were you. read more

Chose by size and price: lucky enough to get a Hyundai Veloster, nice car, clean inside, moves well enough for a 4-cylinder and has great fuel efficiency. The price was very reasonable: $40 for the rental for 24hrs, add approximately $10 for insurance. I didn't like they charged my credit card over a month later. Just remember to bring it back with full fuel as they gave it to you or they charge you. The M60 bus brings you about a 2 street walking distance to the lot. The Avis bus brings you through a circle around LaGuardia Airport. That morning of my scheduled rental they caused me a small shock. I thought they were closed, when I NEEDED a rental car to go out of state. There's no one around and the front door has a sign not really relevant to whether they are actually open or not and no one is at the front desk but the door is open. You actually have to walk across the lot to get to the rental desk. There's two people stationed there and a couple more workers handling the cars. Pick up was pretty simple and fast, so was drop off, both very fast and efficient. The customer service is not the greatest and a bit cold or unprofessional. But they do get the job done and weren't rude or anything, just bland. The whole lot seems clean and organized. For the value it's 3 stars -average- but the fact that it's not a 5 star restaurant and provided me a whip on a Sunday fast and efficiently to get out of the City, I'll add an extra star. 4stars. read more
