[Ace Rent A Car / Drivo Rent A Car] Coney Island Avenue -- False Confirmation & Gatekeeping 1 star. They'll tell you your car is "ready and waiting" even when they know it's damaged -- then block you from anyone who can fix it. The 30-Minute Lie: My pickup was 6:00 PM. I called at 4:30 PM to confirm my SUV was ready -- they said YES, come get it. I arrived at 5:00 PM, paid in full, and immediately after taking my money they told me the SUV came in damaged. They knew for that entire 30-minute window (or longer) that the car was damaged, yet confirmed it was ready and let me pay anyway. Then stuck me with a Toyota Camry downgrade and I missed my $250 Sunday tour with my kids. Management Blocked Everywhere: On-site, they refused to get management. Corporate? Same thing -- rudeness, blame ("you came early"), and refusal to escalate. It felt like a system designed to keep customers away from anyone with authority. I had to force my way through. The "Fix" That Came Too Late: After my trip, I called back and refused to speak to the representative at all -- just repeated "management" until they transferred me. Only then did I get: 20% total discount (bumped from 10%) Immediate deposit refund (not the 20-day hold) $50 gas fee waived Management tried -- the immediate refund and gas waiver showed they recognized the failure. But 80 in credits doesn't replace the250 non-refundable tour or the Sunday with my children that their lie destroyed. The solution came after the damage was done, and only because I bypassed their gatekeeping system entirely. If you rent here: Confirm your car status before you pay. Once they have your money, you're trapped in a system designed to wear you down until you give up or force your way to someone with authority. Have rented from this company several times. This time I returned the car and was charged a $150 fee for "smoke". I do not smoke and neither does my wife. I call to inquire and the story changed, now they tell me it was "dirty" because of a little bit of dust/dirt that is unavoidable after a 4 day rental and a straw wrapper in the center console. Representative hung up on me when I called to inquire about it. The rental agreement says I may be charged "cleaning fees if returned substantially less clean." Is dust and a straw wrapper worth a $150 cleaning fee? I hope that fee was worth losing a customer for good who has spent thousands with them in the past. read more

I rented a car through this company from Friday Sept 19-25th. For a road trip to Virginia Beach. I picked up the car Friday and I mostly did local driving low speed limit. Later in the day Friday when I got on the highway I noticed that the car was shaking anywhere near 60 and the brakes would sputter especially going downhill. I called the company to tried to switch out the car in Jersey. They told me I have to pick up the new car from the original location where I got it. (Brooklyn NY) so I stopped driving the car. I got up the next morning. I drove back to Brooklyn to switch out the car. ( mind you I'm in the middle of vacation.) I reached out to the company for compensation because the car was faulty. ( someone could've been seriously hurt and I also had to delay leaving to the beach.) I requested compensation for the entire day Friday and half or all the day on Saturday. I called the company a total of four times before they gave me a 10% comp and then proceeded today that a manager did call me back, which was a total lie. I never spoke to a manager and I was now on my fifth call. The customer service representative Raymond proceeded to hang up on me after he told me that the case had been escalated. I called back and spoke to Ali, who said the case had not been escalated, but he escalated it. I received a call from Hunter at almost 8 PM. I am now on my sixth call October 1 and I still have not directly spoken to a manager or received my money back in any way. read more

Absolutely terrible! DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. I have never dealt with such a terrible car rental company and we rent cars all the time. Pick up was easy but they ended up charging us OVER THREE TIMES the amount they were supposed to. We got some money back but not all of it and now we are disputing the charges with the credit card company. Completely dishonest company with a staff who have no idea what their policies are and tell customers the wrong thing. Absolutely furious -- we would have flown our family rather than rent from this atrocious company. read more

I left a bad review, changed it when they fixed the issue, and now I'm changing it back because after traveling an hour and a half to pick up the car for my new reservation, I found out I was blacklisted. I spoke to someone earlier and was not informed. You should not be blacklisted for requesting help when you face an issue. read more

I originally rented from Ace and they sent me to some company called Drivio which is scam company told me i had unlimited mileage but restricted where i can go. Also they made me purchase insurance which i have my own but couldn't produce it (like who walks around with car insurance) then they took a deposit that's was more then the rental and when i brought the car back charged me again. Now it's a been over a week an im still waiting for my $427 to be return. Please stay far away from this company if Ace try to send you there, i'm loyalty member to Avis,HertZ, and Six think i'll keep my business restricted to those companies read more

Rented a car for four days at ACE Rent a Car in Brooklyn (Coney Island). The location was convenient and the car was brand new. The staff was friendly but misinformed about the charges they were suppose to charge costumers. In my case I ended it up with a bill with additional charges that were not suppose to be charge. For instance, there was a surcharge for pick up/drop off airport. ACE also charged me an extra $10 a day as per price agreement contract. Furthermore, even though I chose basic car insurance, at the end ACE added a suplemental car insurance. I was able to get back some of the overcharges from ACE but it took me a while and I had to deal with headquarters because staff at Coney Island site could not help me and at one point they just hanged up the phone. I do not recommend this rental company as they don't have the personnel trained enough to provide adequate service. You may loose money using them. read more

Very easy pick up. The person behind the counter was nice and helpful, and made sure to inspect the I side of outside of the car thoroughly. Although we were late to drop off the car, we were able to leave the car for after-hours drop off, which was super easy and convenient. It was hard to find the front door of the place but the garage attendant helped out. Also showed up late for the pick up but it was not a an issue. Thanks! read more
