[Ace Rent A Car / Drivo Rent A Car] Coney Island Avenue -- False Confirmation & Gatekeeping…read more1 star. They'll tell you your car is "ready and waiting" even when they know it's damaged -- then block you from anyone who can fix it. The 30-Minute Lie: My pickup was 6:00 PM. I called at 4:30 PM to confirm my SUV was ready -- they said YES, come get it. I arrived at 5:00 PM, paid in full, and immediately after taking my money they told me the SUV came in damaged. They knew for that entire 30-minute window (or longer) that the car was damaged, yet confirmed it was ready and let me pay anyway. Then stuck me with a Toyota Camry downgrade and I missed my $250 Sunday tour with my kids. Management Blocked Everywhere: On-site, they refused to get management. Corporate? Same thing -- rudeness, blame ("you came early"), and refusal to escalate. It felt like a system designed to keep customers away from anyone with authority. I had to force my way through. The "Fix" That Came Too Late: After my trip, I called back and refused to speak to the representative at all -- just repeated "management" until they transferred me. Only then did I get: 20% total discount (bumped from 10%) Immediate deposit refund (not the 20-day hold) $50 gas fee waived Management tried -- the immediate refund and gas waiver showed they recognized the failure. But 80 in credits doesn't replace the250 non-refundable tour or the Sunday with my children that their lie destroyed. The solution came after the damage was done, and only because I bypassed their gatekeeping system entirely. If you rent here: Confirm your car status before you pay. Once they have your money, you're trapped in a system designed to wear you down until you give up or force your way to someone with authority. The location didn't save my trip -- I had to salvage what I could after the fact. Avoid.

Finally I came in person and they told me they have no more cars. I asked for them to call me when they have cars. They didn't. I called back at the end of the week and they told me they will reserve a newer car for me. I told them that I would be there at 2 to pick it up. At 1:30 I call to make sure the car is still available and SHOcKiNGly it wasn't. They told me they have another vehicle which is "new". When I get into it, the car has 90K miles on it and no back up camera. Also the mileage was reversed. Despite giving me an unsafe vehicle that I stuck with... they wanted to charge me for gas. Overall horrible customer service, old and tainted cars, lack of organization and no remorse for anything. sTaY away!

I had notified the receptionist that i will be going 2,000 miles and need a safe and reliable vehicle to go the distance. Amore representative charged me $20 a day on top of the standard price for extra mileage. They gave me a vehicle and assured me that it is functional in every way. The same night i left for my trip, within hours the check engine light came on. At the time it was night and i was already a far distance away. Within 24 hours the air conditioner in the car ceased to work. I had no cell phone reception, and was 1,000 miles away. It was late August and air temperatures was in the 90's. I had spent my trip miserable with a dysfunctional car in extreme humidity barely being able to sit in the car during the day. Driving back 1000 miles with no AC was pure hell! Upon arrival back i submitted to the Amore representative all the evidence in which they had failed to provide me a safe vehicle, able to take on the additional mileage they charged me for. The vehicle they rented to me was unsafe, unclean, and not what i paid for. They had also charged extra for gas, and later on put a $3,000 charge on my account with no explanation. AVOID BY ALL MEANS!!!! Renting from them is DANGEROUS, they are schemers and have no regard for human safety.
