We read every review on Yelp available before contracting with Ben from Ace pool plastering.  The one scathing review we read almost caused us to blow off Ben.  However, we had already met with Ben so we decided to ask him to explain the situation with the bad review. We have had trouble with Ben. Seems to be Inexperienced. We are still trying to correct some of the mistakes that he caused. He does not communicate well ( especially when there is a problem) He does not show up when he said he will. His team, that does the work, are great, but Ben doesn't relate well with people. He needs to get more experience before taking on projects that are over his head. read more

While I have not used Ace, I did receive a quote. Ultimately, budgeting has preventing me from continuing at this time but when I am ready I plan to all Ace. As promised the owner showed up on time and gave me a heads up for the quote. His quote was reasonable. I plan to strongly consider Ace in the future. read more

I hired Ace Pool Plastering to replaster my pool on 4/14/2020. The owner, Ben Panell, was quick to respond and provide a contract. He was quick to drain my pool and to show up to collect money for phase work before completed. He used generic language in his contract and produced inferior work. He did a poor job prepping my pool (he did not power wash or use cleaners before adding a scratch coat to the inside surface) and he used unknown materials for the scratch coat. He also insisted on refinishing my decking which was in good shape prior and now I have to strip the whole thing down to the substrate and start over due to excessive cracking on surface and coping (I have an estimate from a professional deck company that it will cost me over $5000 just to grind down). The only prep materials I found onsite were from Home Depot. He filled the expansion joints above tile line with tile set and the whole perimeter of the pool below the pool coping is cracked at more than 1/2" in some spots. I stopped work on 5/30/2020 prior to plaster work with a projected finish date of 5/1/2020. In addition, I agreed to QuartzScape as the plaster material which Ace sold me on and the owner wrote "Quartz" on the contract. Given Ace performance and contract language, I have no doubt that if I did not stop work, Ace would have use plaster material other than what I was sold on. Beware if he says he'll do extra work for free or any extras at all for a price...get a change order! Make sure you get EVERYTHING IN WRITING and in DETAIL. Don't let him bully you into thinking he'll do you right. Others that have posted reviews on the work Ace did on your pool, I hope your pool lasts. I currently have a claim with the CSLB due to inferior workmanship and damages. read more

Benjamin did a fantastic job replastering our pool. He was quick to respond to my very first phone call when other companies didn't even call back. He was always punctual, polite and professional. He was willing to go "the extra mile". He even did little extras for no extra charge. His crew had the same great work ethic he possessed. Benjamin has a great sense of pride for his work. He has been in the business for 20+ years but just recently acquired his contractor's license and is on his own. Kudos to him! Benjamin was good about keeping in touch with the progress and when to expect completion of each step of the job. He took the time to listen to my concerns and questions and never became impatient when I repeated the same question. He was very thorough and was genuinely concerned about my happiness and satisfaction. I would not hesitate to recommend him. I would also use him again, if the need arose. However, unfortunately, I will probably not need him again since his work is guaranteed for years; and the pool will probably out live me. LOL. So, the best I can do is HIGHLY recommend him. Ace Pool Plastering, owned by Ben, just finished our pool remodel and re-plaster and we cannot find one thing we would change about the whole process. First, Ben was fully involved from quote to final check in after the pool was filled with water again. He is hands on and very prompt with return calls, he or his team show up when they say they will show up, they clean up all the old tile and plaster that was taken off and were always extremely polite and respective. Ben had multiple types of tile/glass options and even made recommendations for taking out our spa and making a sunbathing or kiddie area, which we did. The pool is beautiful and the craftsmanship amazing. He was very reasonable with his pricing and we highly recommend him. My husband saw his truck at a gas station one day and he was one of a few quotes we received. We are rather picky who we will have do any work on our home and are extremely happy we chose Ace Pool Plastering. read more
