I hired ACE for a relatively simple move (to a new apartment in the same complex, furniture only). They showed up about 15 min early, were polite and professional (and very competent- my furniture was in good hands, even the oversized and highly fragile stuff), and didn't mind my direction on what went where...which occasionally changed mid-stride. They finished in about an hour- and when I couldn't find the plug for my recliner, they came right back to show me where they'd stowed it. Fantastic! Also, in terms of scheduling, Josh was really responsive and respectful. I told him I was getting quotes from multiple companies and he didn't try to pressure or rush me. When the lock to my new apartment broke, less than 24 hours before my scheduled move, he was willing to reschedule last minute if needed. Price-wise, ACE was comparable to what the other three moving companies I contacted quoted me ($400-$500, with a 2-hour minimum despite this being a simple and quick job). In the end, it turned out to be closer to $300, which was great! More expensive than hauling this stuff myself, sure, but worth the money to not risk my back. I will definitely hire ACE again the next time I move. read more

Communication was very lacking. The crew that moved us out was good. I think the issues started during storage as my mattress was returned to me full of lumps, complete garbage now. a number of items were broken, my china hutch wasn't put back together and we are missing parts, and the worst part is they put my Grand Piano back together incorrectly. Here's a new note. Ace Moving ruined my life. They are a complete scam. Run as far away as you can from this scam that is Ace Moving. By failing so hard on my move out, they almost caused me to breach contract for the sale of my house, they only corrected it after I raised Hell, after they dumped over a can of paint and ruined the floors of that same house, after already breaking everything I own and care about, after quoting 2 hours and taking 6, and still didn't finish the job, then ballooned my cost from $500 to $1,000 because they sent me newbies and not their A team. My team asked for help, they said no, then I was charged $1,000 cash and one dude was threatening to quit his job with ACE the entire time. They hire homeless people and high school drop outs to handle your most precious possessions and then provide no training. Then when they break all your stuff, they try and blame U-Pack, before it even leaves your drive-way. This damage is no different than if they let guys take a baseball bat to everything I own and destroy it in my family home while in my living room. They did the same thing, just in a truck. Ace Moving broke or ruined everything I own. I scrimped and had a budget so I could buy this nice furniture over time. Ace Moving just ruined everything (literally everything). I don't have a dining room table anymore. 6/8 leather chairs are punctured and ruined, I don't have dishes because you broke them. And when you broke my dishes while taking your first paid break in 30 minutes, you also dumped soy sauce, and cooking oil, all over my apostered king sized bed and broke it. So not only did you ruin all the physical things in the move you were responsible for, (and was late, and charged me more) you ruined the already packed items too, when you let a stack of bins come crashing down with no restraints. (I have photos and video. Don't try and weasel out of this) You ruined everything I own. I ran the numbers and 90% of what I paid $7,000 to move across the country is going right the trash because of Ace Moving negligence and incompetence. read more

We hired this company specifically as "specialty piano movers," and they reassured us that they were highly qualified to move our grand piano--an extremely valuable and deeply sentimental instrument. Unfortunately, this turned into a stressful, distressing, and emotionally draining experience that did not reflect the level of expertise they advertise. During the move, they secured the piano with only one strap, which broke and caused the piano to fall. Although they said they would "make it right," it was very difficult for nearly six weeks to get clear communication about where the piano was, what repairs were being done, or when it would be returned. They did repair the broken veneer, but when the piano was finally delivered back, the issues continued. The pedals were installed incorrectly (not surprising, as they asked me how to reassemble parts of the piano during delivery), there are now noticeable scuffs and scratches on the most visible curved portion of the instrument, and they left the music rack behind and had to return for a second visit. Despite all of this, they charged full price for the move, even though the piano's overall condition was clearly impacted by the incident. If you want to avoid similar stress and heartbreak, I highly recommend another mover. read more

The pre-move was handled with much detail. They told me what to pack beforehand so I wouldn't be charged more if they boxed it up and labeled each box, bin, and furniture in the room it would go. I could go on the website to change my estimate, and I did. They told me it would take X number of people to move me and take two days, one to place everything on the truck and the next to move me into the new house. They even took my bed to the new home to set it up so we could sleep that night. Asking questions and ensuring they would take the appropriate time frame worked out fine, as I was on a budget and would not want to go over. It was clear that the move went smoother because I had everything organized and labeled. I was impressed that it only took 1/2 a day to unload. The movers were very polite and friendly and took extra care to wrap my furniture and the glass inside each piece. I did have a broken free-standing mirror that cost less than $100, but that was the extent of it. Everything was placed where it was supposed to be, as they made sure the furniture was where I wanted it. They also offered their option when a piece didn't look good when I wanted it, and they, in turn, moved it with no hassle. My husband offered them bottles of water, and they were very thankful! I highly recommend them as this was my second time using their services. read more

Even though my workplace was covering moving costs, he threatened to hold my belongings hostage unless he got his money right then and failed to mention that I had to get a "certified check" beforehand. The kids who moved us did their best and were nice, but they showed up 2 hours late both days and dinged up/scratched up our walls and door frames. They only sent 3 young men to move two houses. Our mattress got mud on it somehow and our tv stand was broken...but the worst was our couch having numerous stains, mud marks, and one cushion was soaking wet. They shaved off $ for the broken furniture and wall dings, but we were told to file a claim for the couch. 9 months later. Even after ensuring they'd take care of me through call, text, and email, it appears the company has now washed their hands of responsibility for repairs to most of the furniture damages. They sent one person out that did small touch ups and coloring in to scratches, yet any of the larger damaged items have now been written off by them as saying, "we've already sent someone out." No, the tech didn't fix the majority of issues, said they couldn't, and said I'd have to have someone else fix the rest as he doesn't work on upholstery and would have to haul the dining table to his shop to repair. During the move, one of the movers couldn't help the other 2 because his back hurt and shouldn't have been on the job, nor should we have had to help or pay for him just to make the job not take 12+ hours. I have damage at both houses, one of which is brand new construction, 2 fridges that needed repair (one was partially fixed after I spent hours of my own time), three chairs that have been almost tore apart, parts missing for furniture, damage to office furniture, entertainment centers, wrecked the dining table, and a laundry list of other damages. Dragging furniture across floors of the rough truck bed, not wrapping anything that went on the truck. It doesn't make sense. I used them in the past but apparently doing so again has been a mistake. After my move they fired one of the 3 movers, my guess being the injured one so they could get out of liability. The repair coordinator has also since been fired as he was reporting finishing jobs that weren't being completed. I scheduled over the phone. I signed for full insurance on the bill of lading the day they arrived before beginning work. I'll be reporting to the FMCSA, BBB, DOL, and OSHA. read more

My wife and I have moved 14 times over our 35 years of marriage and a career that put me in a role of expanding a company across the country. We have used virtually every well known moving company and generally have had good experiences. Recently we have had the need to use ACE movers in SW VA twice as we renovated our retirement home at Smith Mountain Lake. Both times we had them come in, empty our main floor including a piano. In one instance they stored the furniture for us and this second time they moved it into our garage. These guys are awesome. This last time we had all new hardwood floors and they were so careful when moving the furniture back in so as not to harm the wood. The care they gave in re-assembling the piano (an expertise of theirs) was fantastic. They communicate frequently, reconfirm details, and their costs were well below what I expected. They're okay. I hired them to load a 26' Penske moving truck and they took about 4 hours to do it, which is what they had anticipated before starting. They did a nice job loading the truck and making things fit. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that they didn't shrink wrap several items including a single seater couch, a dresser, and a few end tables. All of which I didn't notice until after I'd driven across the country. Part of our arrangement was for them to shrink wrap all of the furniture, except for one leather couch. So I'd hire them again, except I'd spend more time standing in the truck making sure things were done right. read more

Our moving experience with Ace Moving & Storage was a nightmare! We contracted with Ace to pack and move and store our belongings for one night. Their quote was reasonable. The day before our move (November 31), a team of movers came and did a walk-through of our house. My husband and I had been packing for six weeks, but we still needed a lot of help. During the walk-through, I made sure that the movers knew that our house needed to be packed up on December 1, we were moving into our new house on the afternoon of December 2. On December 1 the movers showed up early and got to work. They worked quickly and efficiently. My husband and I worked right along with them. At 4:30 pm, my husband and I had to leave home and go sign closing papers at the bank. I reminded the foreman that our house had to be packed up by the end of the day. He seemed surprised, even though he was present during the walk-through. My husband and I signed the papers and came back to the house to find the movers leaving. At first that was fine. Then, we started our clean up. We found, to our extreme dismay, that the movers had left a gigantic mess in the basement. There was broken glass all over the basement floor. They had piled garbage on top of the paints and chemicals that we were responsible for. They broke a ceramic pot that my mother gave me and tried to hide it under the garbage. We also found many things that they movers didn't pack. I called Al Broholm, the moving estimator and told him about the mess and the things that weren't moved, and he told me that the movers would be back in the morning to finish up. That wasn't possible because the new owners of the house were closing at 9:30 am the next day. My husband and I stayed at our house until 11:30 pm cleaning up. Due to a glitch in the move, we had to wait until December 3 to move in to our new house. When I told Mr. Broholm that we had to wait, he treated me badly. He threatened to put our stuff in storage. He blamed me for all the problems that he was going to have rescheduling his other moving projects. On December 3 the movers showed up at our new house and started to move our stuff in. My job that day was to be the traffic director. When the boxes came off the truck, I told the movers where to put them. Many times, I told the movers where to put the boxes and furniture and they put things where ever they wanted to. Consequently, there are things that are still missing, three weeks after our move. The clincher in our moving experience came when one of the movers dropped our TV. He dropped our TV right in front of me. When I called about reimbursement for the TV, Al Broholm told me that he would give me $50.00 for the TV. That was not enough. Mr. Broholm then proceeded to go on Craigslist and looked for used TVs and told me about several that were under $50.00. He also blamed me for not purchasing their moving insurance. We payed over $3500.00 for this entire move. My husband and I thought Ace Moving and Storage would take care of our things. When it became clear that I wasn't getting anywhere, I then asked to speak with his boss, Glen Childs. Mr. Childs gave me and my husband the same treatment. Our real estate agent had to mediate a settlement for us. Do yourselves a favor, avoid this company at all costs. read more

After dealing with ACE Moving for over a month when one of their truck drivers hit my car, I feel like I have no choice but to leave this review. Overall my experience dealing with the managers and the owners of this company went from disappointing to infuriating. Countless ignored texts, calls, voicemails, etc. over the course of a month+ to everyone I had contact for. Their actions were not simply immoral, they were illegal. Their lack of accountability and compliance with me and the repair shop I chose to get it fixed at proves how unprofessional the staff are at this company. Some of my favorite quotes include the likes of "we hit cars all the time..." along with calling the workers at the repair shop "scam artists." After a while I realized they were scared to get insurance involved (hence the driver taking off after only handing me a card with his manager's number), so I took it to gathering insurance information after the accident. Once again, missed calls, ignored texts and voicemails. It took threatening police reports to get anything out of them. Once I finally got in contact with insurance, that was just as bad of an experience, but that's for another review. If you want my recommendation, stick to dealing with anyone but ACE, and make sure if you see one of their trucks near your car, move your car or else you'll be playing phone tag with the managers, having to wait over a month for repair. read more
