Nope, not again. This was our third time using Collegiate movers and is the worst moving experience we have had. For reference we have lived 5 times over the last six years. Asked for a quote, received it, but did not get anything in writing. Adrian said he needed $1200, for deposit, but explained there is a 3% charge for credit cards and asked for Zelle or Venmo payments. By the time we transferred the money over to that account, for the deposit m, the deposit was. $1500,. Thus was to be applied at the end. He had us send the money to his wife, not even to a business account.. Still nothing in writing, asked for this to be in writing, he sent an email with grey type on a white background. There was little communication after that. Even after reaching out the Friday before the move set to be on Tuesday, there was no response. He calls after 2 on Monday, to say the truck is getting repaired and still not back asking to adjust our move date. We had a short window, but was able to shift it a day. Asking us for places to stop for the night, putting their poor planning onto us. When they called to confirm the time was firm, they asked what kind of carts were available to move stuff out. They used a hotel cart that belonged to our building and got a shopping cart out of the alley, because they did not have a dolly or anything to move things with. I was surprised they had moving blankets at this point. They arrived 30 minutes later the time they were supposed to arrive and the set time we had access to the freight elevator. After showing them what they had to move, I suggested they not leave the truck where they had it parked, that things might walk off. They did not move it, felt it was okay (this was in Chicagoland). We made the block to see they left it there. They called when they finished moving out, no other communication until move in day. They sent a message the day if move in. They said they would be at the move in about noon and would give a call when they were 30 minutes out. At 1pm, we received that call, they were 30 minutes out. They arrived without a lock on the back. When asked, they said they park it so it is tight against a wall. We helped them unload the truck, because we were worried about the incoming rain. We changed nothing about our packing. Until this move we have only had one cereal bowl break. This time we had multiple glasses, a platter, a 5 gallon antique water jug and more. Also, completely missing whole boxes and at last count, at least $1,000 of our belongings. Several of which are family heirlooms that cannot be replaced. When we went to pay, Adrian wanted to add $450 for gas, to what he stated when he gave the estimate, was a fixed rate and is in the email he sent that is barely readable. Then wanted to change the additional credit card charge from 3% to 4%. I did the math for him and rounded up a few dollars, just to be done and stop the conversation. read more

Collegiate Movers - Truck arriving without a lock, so I asked - Movers Near Me - Roanoke, Virginia

I have used this company more than 6 times in the past 10 years between myself and children, this last time will be the last. I had items broken. My quote was not what I was charged. The vehicle ran out of fuel. The owner spilled diesel in my vehicle and all over my driveway. My list goes on. I hate it for the 2 employees because they were doing the best they could with what they had. My items were not wrapped, strapped down and my boxes were thrown around without care. The owner was the most unprofessional person and considering how well they did in the past, I am truly disappointed. I wouldn't use them again if they paid me. I wish I could give negative stars. I cannot replace what they damaged. read more

I had Collegiate Movers on 2 previous moves and were very satisfied with the job they did. I recently used them to move out of town which was a horrible experience. Initially the movers were late arriving the day of the move. Left left my house around 12:15pm and didn't arrive at my new home until 7:30pm...I only moved 3 hours away. I initially sent a text to Adrian, the owner with no response and then called him, leaving a message requesting a return phone call. After not receiving a return call, I called him back and was told he had a tire issue and would arrive around 6:30pm. They didn't arrive until 7:30pm. They may have had a tire issue but they didn't change the tire. The following day I left a message that my adjustable bed hadn't been hooked back up. Since they were so late finishing unloading my furniture / boxes, they stayed locally overnight. When I asked him to come hook my bed up, Adrian said he didn't unhook my bed before he moved it, it was already unhooked. I told him I'm unable to move my bed due to the size, therefore unable to hook it. When he came to my house, he accused me of calling him a "liar" and I was told to "check my attitude". I told him he was calling me a liar and he needs to work on his customer service because I shouldn't have had to call him to find out where they were and it's inappropriate for him to tell me to "check" my attitude. While working on my bed, Adrian took the cord to my bed out of my nightstand stating he put there when he took my bed apart. Before he left my house, he told me he was going to "hug me" before he left and I made him aware I would not be hugging him. After he left, I noticed that my dining room table and the upholstery on one of my dining chairs was punctured. I sent him pictures to make him aware of the damage. I saw that he read my text but have yet to receive a return phone call about my damaged furniture. When he should be moving items into my new home, Adrian was too busy playing on his phone or watching a baseball game on his iPad. One of the other workers even told Adrian to get off of his phone or he would "kick him in the face". I can't say enough good things about the 2 gentlemen working with Adrian. They were kind, respectful and worked instead of playing on his phone. If you are looking for a qualified mover that is professional and will take care of your belongings, DO NOT hire Collegiate Movers!!!!! read more

A clown show! They even dropped and shattered our TV during the move. This is not a professional group. I would definitely look elsewhere. Not a pleasant experience. read more

Since I posted the review of my experience with Collegiate Movers, the company responded in a very satisfactory manner, and provided the requested reimbursement. Since I cannot remove the previous review, I ask readers to disregard it as it relates to the company's business practices. While the company may not be particularly timely and quickly responsive in regard to communication, the men who actually did the move were on time, polite and courteous, engaging, and did all that was asked of them. I think this company could be trusted with your move. read more

They were well prepared for all of the furniture I had and able to properly wrap it for protection very quickly. They took time to evaluate all that I had in order to more safely and efficiently pack the truck. All of my items arrived in the same position on the truck and suffered no damage. They then quickly unloaded the truck and took the time to move some of the furniture around as I made decisions about where I wanted it. I have moved many times in my life, and these movers were the most efficient. read more

Would not recommend. Brock stuff. Did not use Dollie's too more anything. Grabbing anything to grip the item . Even breaking it to try to carry it. No straps used to carry anything. Guy jousting though landscaping to get to stairs. Should have used stairs. Dirt everywhere spreading on sidewalks. Higher price than quoted and broke stuff. read more

I used Collegiate Movers for a move this past Friday and I couldn't be more pleased. Austin, Justin and Ethan did a fantastic job, they were careful, fast, friendly and very accommodating. I always use Collegiate Movers, not only is the service excellent but they are very reasonable with their fees. Thank you Adrian and crew, we really appreciate you. Sandy Sprinkle. read more

Thank you for helping us out last minute.. these guys are top notch and did everything we asked them to do. Will definitely use them again for moving!! read more

I had a very small move transferring moving boxes to a storage unit. As soon as I booked the job I received constant follow ups and confirmations which kept my mind at ease during a stressful move. The truck turned up slightly later than expected but they kept me informed. Thiel and Ian were excellent in getting the job done quickly and smoothly and then we met at the storage unit where they again unloaded everything and helped me lock the unit. A very pleasurable experience, would definitely recommend! read more

My move was made very easy with this company. They were professional, timely, and affordable. I would definitely hire them again.

I am so, so, SO happy that I hired these movers! After an arduous move from Californian to Virginia, which I did myself (U-haul ) I was forced to put all of my furniture in storage for 2 months before escrow closed (long story). Anyway, I called this company up, and the owner was very nice and attentive, and explained everything to me beforehand so that there wasn't any surprises when moving day came. The three men were on time, efficient, polite, and they packed the truck with all my valuables with care and respect. No casualties and no damages to any of my furniture. Really just some one the best people that I have met here in Virginia. I give these guys a 10/10 for the best moving experience I have ever had in my life! read more

Beware...all good reviews are old. Company moved only bedroom suite. Broke head board..scratched up armoire...and hall and door frames. The owner after 2 plus months of "trying" to find someone to try to repair...wouldn't return calls. I finally talked to him only because I called from a number he didn't recognize promised a refund. That was 2 weeks ago. Again avoiding calls and messages. Terrible unprofessional. I would not trust Adrian and his crew to move lawn furniture read more

We used Collegiate Movers to move several inherited pieces of furniture to my sister's home in Roanoke and then to Alexandria VA. We had a terrific team of movers. On time, polite, respectful and careful of our furniture, as they wrapped and protected each piece. It was a long day for these guys, with a long drive home! Excellent service in the front office too with Adrian. Thank you!! read more

Adrian and his crew are awesome! I had to reschedule as the closing date changed. Adrian said no problem and scheduled it for a week later. The crew showed up on time and truck was loaded in a timely fashion. It was non stop loading and this group has it down to a science! We were moved out and in to new home in under 5 hours. They were very careful with the furniture and boxes! They unloaded and put into rooms that boxes and furniture were designated to. I would recommend these movers they were so kind and considerate. They did an excellent job and we are happy, happy, happy! Thanks Adrian and crew! You all did an excellent job and if I could I would give 100 stars! By far this was the least stressful moving situation we have had and you were all a blessing to us! Thank you!! read more

we used Collegiate movers for a local move. We got the estimate and scheduled the move. We were scheduled for 2 large trucks and 5 movers. The morning of our move, I received a call from the owner saying they were "running short on trucks" and ask if we could have our move that day, using one truck and what couldn't be fit on that truck, would be finished the next day. Well, the movers arrived with one smaller truck and 4 movers. We were told at their arrival that another truck would be arriving in a few hours, then another a few hours after that. Over the few morning hours, everything changed several times and no other trucks came. Our one day move turned into 3 days. The movers themselves, worked very hard and they kept apologizing for the continuous changes. I am giving 3 stars because of the good work of the men that did the actual work. I give the Adrian, the owner/scheduler no stars! read more

Booked them for 2 appointments. The movers themselves are GREAT but the scheduling guy is disorganized - he could't "remember" if I had paid my deposits (for which HE sent me an email confirmation), I received 2 calls for the arrival time (for the 1st visit) each a different time but it didn't matter as they arrived 3 hours late the first visit and 5 hrs late for the second. When I called the scheduler to see where the movers were for the 2nd visit I was told "I lost your file and figured you would be calling me". For the last appointment the scheduler told the movers to charge me for 3 hours (even though they had been there less than 2). You pay for 2 hours upfront when you book; I paid for 2 hous like they worked - not three. Movers are great but scheduling guy sucks. I had already unloaded most of the POD myself for my second appt as they were so late arriving (but would still have to pay minimum of 2 hours). read more

Collegiate Movers did an excellent job moving my daughter from one location to another in Blacksburg. They showed up on time, were very professional and incredibly efficient. I highly recommend them! read more

These fellows assisted us with a 25-mile move from two mobile homes and a storage site to a three story Victorian with precision and efficient service. Their price was right, thanks mainly to their speed. They were pleasant and more than willing to provide any services we required with regard to the move- I was very impressed. Five guys and a truck finished the job in 5 hours which was lightning quick in my estimation. They charged us $140 per hour for the entire crew and there were none of those "surprise" charges you often get from movers. And they didn't break anything. : ) I highly recommend them. We paid by check so I don't know if they take credit cards- they probably do if you make prior arrangements. read more

I have used various movers in the past and these guys are by far the best. Last minute I realized that I needed help moving some heavy pieces. I contacted Adrian through Yelp and he was able to fit me in a couple days later. The two movers worked extremely fast and efficient. The price was also the best in town. I definitely recommend them for an easy, stress free move read more

I had a small move for my son from a studio to an apartment across town. The movers were quick, efficient, friendly and took good care of my sons stuff.. I recommend collegiate movers highly!!! read more

Charged over $1,000 but left me having to hire a U-Haul and spend another $500 to move what they left behind. I had to take off time from work, as well. I suppose they just didn't feel like taking some stuff. It would have been nice if they'd at least taken the big things and things they were specifically asked to take instead of leaving them for me to move. The whole point of hiring them was so I did not have to rent a truck or lift heavy things. Spend a few extra dollars and hire someone who will do a complete job. I would've spent another thousand not to have lost work time and had to work around the clock to move. read more
