Overall, I think it was a positive experience. You might ask yourself,"what kinda review is that?" As a 26 year home owner, I do most of the work myself because of affordability issues so I do not have a lot of reference to compare it to. When I had to drywall my main bathroom, I decided to hire Ace Hardware Services after failing to get other lower cost handymen to do the job. Here is what I liked about Ace:1) Showed up on the days promised and finished the job within 2 weeks--they drywalled a 9 x 5 bathroom and installed a fan exhaust exit vent in the roof. 2)Friendly and professional service guy who listened. I left him to work in my house while I returned to work. The other drywaller companies I attempted to get quotes from when they swung by to take a look at the job would not have been left in my house alone and unattended. NO WAY! 3) Knowledgeable service employee who wanted to work: while waiting for the materials delivery which was late on the first day, he fixed my front screen door and fixed an issue with my shower surround that I had a plumber install but who really did not know what he was doing! The Ace service guy told me that I was paying him to be there so he should fix something while we waited for the delivery! 4) Job looks good with just minor issues that I solved myself(see below).
Next are the things that I am not sure are standard or what when you hire someone to do handy work. You be the judge: 1) The drywall around the door and window was not installed flush/even with their respective frames. This made installation of the door and window moldings challenging for me. 2) A cracked corner of drywall was discovered in the installation around the window. Also a sub-roofing board split almost in its entirety from the screws in installing the roof vent. I took pictures of both issues and sent them to Ace Services but they were not too keen on coming out to repair. They did say if it proved to be a problem they could set a time to take care of it but I was left with not knowing if this would an additional service visit with fees or what. So, I covered up most of the drywall cracking with window molding and kept a sharp eye on the roofing inside my attic space without any issues developing but grumbled about both a lot because of my third reason below. 3) Ace Services is a bit pricey: est $4200 for a drywalling of a 9 X 5 bathroom in an older home plus the vent exhaust insulation. Is this good in GR area??? I did get the great services described earlier but felt that it should be PERFECT without my acceptance of the two issues described above. Again, I don't hire out very often.
In retrospect after writing this review, I asked myself if I would use ace services for a job in my home again. The answer would be YES so I guess that helps contribute to the answer of whether or not I had a positive experience, but you be the judge based on what I wrote: I would love to get your feedback. read more
